BREAKING NEWS: Former NWA lightweight champion Angelo Savoldi passes away at age 99
Posted: Sep 21st 2013 By: mikeiles
It is with extreme sadness that I tell you of the passing of the greatest and longest reigning NWA lightweight champion, Angelo Savoldi.
Angelo died yesterday, September 20. He was just shy of his 100th birthday. I loved Angelo. I first met him at the old Madison Square Garden in New York City in 1960 when I was writing for Ring Magazine.
This past December, I had the honor to present Angelo with a lifetime achievement award at a show held in his hometown of Parsippany, New Jersey. May Almighty God grant Angelo Savoldi an eternity of peace and rest in Heaven. Angelo Savoldi was, is and always will be a champion.
I will miss him dearly. My condolences to his wonderful family.
