Jack Swagger Reportedly Getting No Backstage Heat for Injuring Dolph Ziggler

Jack Swagger Reportedly Getting No Backstage Heat for Injuring Dolph Ziggler

Posted: May 16th 2013 By: mikeiles

An errant Jack Swagger kick is the reason Dolph Ziggler won't be defending his world title at Extreme Rules this Sunday, but the self-proclaimed real American isn't catching any backstage flack for it.

Bryan Alvarez of Figure Four Weekly (via CagesideSeats.com) reported the following:

We didn't hear any fallout in terms of punishment or people being upset at Swagger as it was clearly and accident and not something that Swagger did on purpose, or a careless kick or anything like that. It was just wrong place, wrong time for Ziggler's head.

Swagger is now seemingly bulletproof after avoiding suspension after a DUI and marijuana possession arrest (h/t TMZ.com) in February and now knocking Ziggler senseless with no repercussions.

On the May 10 episode of WWE SmackDown, Ziggler reached down for a ladder, and Swagger kicked him in the head. It resulted in a concussion that cost Ziggler day's worth of memory, as he told an interviewer on WWE.com. He said, "I don't even remember traveling from Raw to SmackDown. I don't remember Tuesday."

Injuries like Ziggler's are inevitable in a business that involves muscular men swinging ladders at each other and slamming each other to the ground, but it's still surprising that there was reportedly not even some anger directed at Swagger.

Last year, Miz failed to catch R-Truth in a spot during a WWE Raw match, resulting in a nasty spill. As Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com reported, "Triple H loudly disciplined Miz in front of the locker room as soon as he returned to the back."

Swagger avoided that fate. Miz's misstep was more major. Swagger's is more accident than mistake.

The accident has derailed one of the potential show-stealing matches of the pay-per-view but hopefully won't have any lasting health effects for The Show-Off. WWE made the right move by holding him out, even if it means a less entertaining show on Sunday.

As Ziggler sits the action out, Swagger and Alberto Del Rio will battle in an I Quit match for the right to face him for his world title. The question will be can Swagger avoid Del Rio's cross armbreaker with the same success that he has avoided tongue-lashings and punishment?
