John Sutton (better known to longtime wresting fans as Sir Oliver Humperdink) has passed away. He succumbed to cancer early Sunday morning at the age of 62. Percy Pringle (known to WWE fans as Paul Bearer) made the mention on his Twitter page on Sunday morning that he had passed just after midnight.
Most notably known for his managerial services throughout his career, he had a long list of well-known wrestlers throughout the 80s and early 90s. Probably the most recognizable name on that list would be Bam Bam Bigelow. Also on the list of people he managed included Paul Orndorff, Kevin Sullivan, Sid Vicious, and The Great Muta. He was also associated with some successful tag teams as well, including The Funk Brothers (Dory, Jr. and Terry) The New Wild Samoans (Fatu, Samu, Tonga Kid), as well as one of the most famous groups in Texas wrestling history, The Fabulous Freebirds.
Among his accomplishments are a 2005 honor from the Cauliflower Alley Club, as well as Pro Wrestling Illustrated 1984 Manager Of The Year. He also gained two championships during his career, with the NWA Central States Television Championship in 1981 and the NWA Florida Heavyweight Championship in 1987.
Earlier this year, he was diagnosed with cancer of the bladder. However instead of facing chemotherapy and various other treatments, he opted to enter hospice care and let everything take its course. Thoughts and prayers are certainly with his family and closest friends throughout this time.
