Morbid Escapes With Career Intact, New Title To His Name

Posted: Jul 23rd 2010 By: CMBurnham

Recently, Oklafan.com names Shane Morbid as the #1 wrestler in the state at the Mid-Year point and took some criticism for that decision, due to Shane not holding any titles at that point. Shane began the year as a Triple Crown Champion, but all those titles were gone from his possession by May. Shane set his eyes on two things: regaining the ComPro Title from Richie Adams and gaining a title he'd never held. The TAP Heavweight Title. But to do that, he would have to overcome several hurdles in his way.

The first step for Shane to accomplish in his quest was to qualify to earn a shot at the TAP Title. To do that, he had to be victorious in a Gauntlet Match. Fortune smiled on him when he was chosen to enter towards the end of the Gauntlet. He defeated the Canadian Luchadore, then easily handled Maniac Mike. His toughest challenger was Michael Barry, as he had to handle not only Barry, but the rest of Excellence Personified at ringside. But Morbid overcame those odds and stood victorious at the end of night, confident that in June, he would become TAP Champion.

A small monkey wrench was thrown in those works when The Canadian Red Devil was put into the title match. Also, the presence at ringside of Reckless' twin brother Ignition and their associate Michael York, disguised as El Grande Jabroni, didn't help things. El Grande Jabroni was unmasked after having Pennywise's clown car thrown at him and then the Devil was counted out of the ring, leaving the one-on-one match that Morbid had hoped for. But due to the interference of Ignition, who held Morbid's feet during the pinfall, Reckless retained the title and was guaranteed to have a 1-year+ title reign on the charts. Morbid grabbed the microphone after the match and demanded a rematch, this time one-on-one from the beginning. He knew that Reckless wouldn't accept unless he offered something to make it worth his while, so he announced that, if he lost, he would leave TAP forever! This opportunity was too much for Reckless to pass up and he accepted. Morbid said that the Saints of Twilight could call the cops, a lawyer or their mom, but there was nothing they could do to prevent him from beating the brakes off of the champion and taking his title.

Title match time arrived and Morbid was very confident heading into the contest. It was a long match, with both men completely aware of what was on the line for each. But eventually, Shane Morbid got the pin and the crowd was ecstatic. Until their attention was drawn to TAP co-commissioner John the Encourager. John had received a phone call during the match and it became clear that this call came from TAP co-commissioner J. P. Steele. John and J. P. spent over 5 minutes arguing with each other on the phone, but ultimately John had no choice but to announce that J. P. had made the match into a 2-out-of-3 Falls Match. As Shane expressed his unhappiness about this development, Reckless snuck up behind him and rolled him up, evening the contest at 1 fall apiece. A final fall would determine each man's fate. Reckless threw Morbid outside and slammed his head into the corner ringpost, opening a deep gash across his forehead and leaking blood. But this seemed to have the opposite effect that Reckless wanted as Morbid saw his own blood and became enraged, firing powerful forearms to Reckless' chest before connecting the "Barnaby Jones" clothesline. A 3-count later and a new TAP Champion was crowned.

Exhausted, Morbid called for the microphone, thanking the fans who had supportedf him and dedicating the match to a friend who had passed away earlier that week.

Morbid's title win meant that NWA-OK Oklahoma Champion Dane Griffin now reigns as the longest current champion, having held that belt since January 23.

Morbid now looks to try and repeat history by defeating Richie Adams to regain the ComPro Title. Morbid made the same offer to Adams in order to secure a title shot: Title vs Career. But ComPro owner Mike Two has told Oklafan that this match will be a One Fall Match, so Morbid will only have one chance to get this right. If he can accomplish that, Morbid will be one step away from recreating the Triple Crown Title, a momentous accomplishment in his career. He also will become the only 2x ComPro Champion, much as he was the only 2x SRPW Champion. But most of all, Morbid believes he will have put the nay-sayers and doubters away by proving that he is deserving of the top spot in Oklahoma wrestling today.
