The Party's Over

The never-ending feud between Rick Garrett and Kareem Sadat long ago became more than just a matter of professional status. It became personal. More and more stipulations have been lumped onto their matches. Many fans were present when the two enemies took their battle to the street, literally. Garrett pummeled Sadat in a Parking Lot Brawl, demolishing a car in the process. Another match resulted in Sadat?s associate, Maniac Mike, having to kiss Garrett?s toes after the match was over. How could it possibly get any worse? They found a way.
Sadat, together with his associates Maniac Mike and Shane Sanchez, had gone out of their way to insult the fans on March 27, bringing toothbrushes and deodorant to the ring and showing the crowd how to use them. Sadat then issued a challenge for Garrett. He said that if Garrett could make his way through 3 hand-picked opponents, he could get a match of his choosing against Sadat at the show on April 11. Garrett accepted and the first challenger was Maniac Mike. Mike is very comfortable in the Hardcore division, but lacked the experience to outwit the veteran performer and was the first to fall. Next came Shane Sanchez, who had more experience and overall ability. Nonetheless, he couldn?t pull off the victory over the popular Garrett. Garrett believed he would be facing Sadat in the final match, but that wasn?t the case as Sadat went to the back and then brought out SWCW Champion 3rd Rail. Leading Rail to the ring with a box of cookies, Sadat indicated that he wanted Rail to destroy Garrett. The unpredictable champion didn?t seem to enjoy this idea, but went ahead and faced off against ?The Party Man?. Sadat tried to stack the odds, though, by having his associates distract the referee. He took that opportunity to grab a chair and went to hit Garrett. But Garrett moved and Sadat struck Rail, knocking the champion loopy and allowing Garrett to throw him from the ring (which constituted an elimination in this match). Garrett had won the match, but before he could name his reward, Sadat, Sanchez, & Mike all jumped in the ring and triple-teamed him. Garrett was able to knock all of them out, then, in yet another act to further the issue between them, he placed Mike on top of Sadat (who was SWCW Hardcore Champion at the time) and ordered the referee to count 3. Mike had won the title from his own boss and there was nothing Sadat could do about that.
A humiliated Sadat then announced to the crowd that he wanted to face Garrett in a Barbed Wire Steel Cage Match. In addition, he wanted a couple of stipulations added to the match. If Garrett lost, he would lose the right to use the ?Party Man? name. But if Sadat lost, his career would be over!! The crowd sensed the opportunity to finally end this war and encouraged Garrett to accept the offer, which he did. But Garrett wasn?t done as he dragged all 3 of them back into the ring and beat on them some more for good measure. Sadat left, but grabbed the Hardcore Title, even though he wasn?t champion anymore, and prepared for the most important match of his life.
When April 11 arrived, Sadat and his cronies didn?t seem to be worried about Garrett. At first, they were more concerned with Rage Logan, who Sadat called a ?snot-nosed punk?. Sadat said Logan had no business sticking his nose in their affairs. Logan reminded him that he almost took the Hardcore Title in a Hardcore Battle Royal once before and was fully prepared to walk out as champion this time. He accepted the Hardcore Challenge from Maniac Mike and the match was on. Even though Logan was alone, he had the crowd behind him and was able to score the pin on the unstable champion. But he didn?t get to celebrate long as Shane Sanchez took advantage of the 24/7 rule and schoolboyed Logan to win the belt.
Sadat & his associates also interfered in the match between Sanchez and SWCW Cruiserweight Champion Crisstopher Crow, which resulted in a No-Contest. But when Korvin Sage came out and made it clear that he wanted a shot at the title he had held more often than anyone else, Sadat, Mike, and Sanchez all left, understanding that this had nothing to do with them.
And even that wasn?t enough for the evil threesome, as they arrived during the SWCW Tag Team Title match pitting champions Locked & Loaded against X-Rated. Shane attacked his brother Kevin James Sanchez and all 3 then handcuffed K. J. to the ringside railings, leaving his partner Bobby Star alone in the ring and allowing Ryan Reyes to score a doublearm DDT and retain the titles for himself and Rick Russo.
After all that distraction, most fans would assume that Sadat would have been worn out and not properly prepared for the main event. But he arrived with his suitcase and left it at ringside, saying that if he lost, he would leave immediately. Garrett preceded him into the cage after being escorted down by several friends. The crowd could sense a major event happening in front of them and the competitors were very cautious of the barbed wire, which covered one entire panel of the cage and the lower half of two other panels. When the match began, Sadat?s associates began to disassemble the ring ropes from the outside, reaching through the barbed wire to do so. And despite the protests of referee George Knight inside the ring and special enforcer Crazy Charlie outside the ring, they continued to do this for most of the match. The crowd sat in confusion, not understanding why this was going on, but it became apparent after the ropes were down as Sadat attempted to throw Garrett full force into the cage. This backfired as Garrett reversed and slammed Sadat?s face into the barbed wire on one side of the ring, opening up a deep laceration and covering Sadat?s face with his own blood. Then, in one of the most sickening moments in SWCW history, Garrett threw Sadat into the side of the cage that was completely covered in barbed wire. But that gave out on impact and Sadat collapsed through the barbed wire and fell to the floor with a loud thud with pieces of the barbed wire fence entangled on his back and around his face.
As Sadat disentangled himself with the help of his partners, one of them poured powder into his hands. When Garrett moved in to try and drag Sadat back into the ring for more punishment, Sadat threw the powder into his face. He then climbed back into the ring and rolled Garrett up. The crowd sat in silent shock as the referee counted to three. And just to add insult to injury, all 3 men entered the ring to once again triple-team Garrett. He was able to once again fight off this 3-on-1 effort, but the damage was done. SWCW commissioner Shawn McKeaigg entered the ring and asked Garrett what he should address him as now that he was no longer allowed to be ?The Party Man?. Garrett never really gave a response, but did try to boost the fans? spirits by offering to give away the rest of his ?Party Man? T-shirts for free outside.
It?s obvious that this feud isn?t over. Even though Garrett had been able to outsmart Sadat at practically every move he had made, this one mistake had cost him dearly. Garrett labeled Sadat a cheater for using powder in the match (although it seems difficult to understand how someone can cheat in an environment where there are essentially no rules) and the wheels in his mind could clearly be seen preparing for the next step in the fight. This war has lasted for months and now it seems like it won?t be settled until both men are permanently injured?or worse.
