Morbid Dominates All Opposition

Morbid Dominates All Opposition

Posted: Apr 14th 2010 By: CMBurnham

He began the year as the state?s only Triple Crown Champion. Now MWA MAX-Division Champion Shane Morbid only has one of the three belts he started the year with. But he?s had that belt for 6 months. And a newfound intensity is surfacing for ?Mr. Endurance? as he prepares to embark on some of the most challenging matches of the past couple of years.

Morbid disposed of the challenge of El Super Colibri last month in MWA and has been mentally preparing for his upcoming return match against TAP Adrenaline and ComPro Champion Richie Adams. As champion, he knew that he had to be prepared for any challengers and the MWA Board of Directors provided a doozy when they signed ?The Pure Wrestler? Bobby V as Morbid?s opponent this past Friday in Spavinaw. Bobby had made a handful of appearances in Oklahoma before, challenging then-MWA Champion Michael Barry for his title. This time, it was a matchup of technical wrestling and strong-style tactics as the hard-hitting Shane Morbid brought everything he had with him. Both men put on a clinic, trading hold for hold and demonstrating a wealth of knowledge about the sport. Well versed in submission wrestling, Bobby V did everything he could to hold Morbid on the mat, forcing him to carry his weight. Bobby eventually tied Morbid up in a submission hold, putting pressure on Shane?s carotid artery and hoping for a tap-out, but Morbid turned the move over into a pinning combination and secured another victory. Six months to the day that Morbid had won the belt, he again defended it. Morbid addressed the crowd, reminding them that he was not there to be popular, but to destroy. He would beat the bricks off of anyone and swore to become the #1 contender to the MWA Title later that night by winning the Gauntlet Battle Royal that served as the main event in the card that night. He finished by saying that he was the ?King of Spavinaw? and he wasn?t concerned about anyone but himself.

Morbid?s venture into the Battle Royal was not successful. He entered at a good slot, coming in at #26 out of 28. And he was able to stay in the event until he was eliminated #20. But better times lay ahead for him the next night in Wagoner.

Despite losing the TAP Oklahoma Heritage Title to Dutch Hagen, Morbid had gained the respect of the fans by putting on a strong contender for Match of the Year. Morbid didn?t have the luxury of sitting back and resting following that loss as another stong-style contender stepped forward. SWCW Luchadore Champion Se7en came out and told the crowd that he had been scheduled to compete in a tag team match that night, but his partner Jack Legacy (who had won a Battle Royal in MWA the night before and became the #1 contender to the MWA Title) was unable to be there. So he was issuing an open challenge to anyone in the locker room. Never one to back down from a situation like that, Morbid confidently came to the ring and answered that challenge. This caused Se7en to reconsider his offer. He said that he was prepared for a tag team match, but not for a singles match and he would have to decline Morbid?s answer to the challenge. Morbid accused Se7en of being a coward, which seemed to ignite something in the Excellence Personified member. Se7en then compromised by saying that he would agree to meet Morbid, but not right then. He?d need 30 minutes to stretch and warm up and then only 2 minutes to kick Morbid?s ass. Morbid agreed to the delay, but called Se7en and the rest of EP ?posers?. This prompted a nose-to-nose staredown between the two, but Se7en eventually broke that off and went to the back. Morbid thanked the crowd for coming out and promised a great match later that night.

Although Morbid and Se7en had faced each other before in tag team and Triple Threat encounters, this is the first documented 1-on-1 meeting of the two in Oklahoma. Both men have similar styles, favouring the Japanese Strong Style. That style didn?t come into use much this time. It was more of a catch-as-catch can style with Se7en trying to force Morbid to the mat and focusing on his neck. Ultimately it didn?t work for him as Morbid caught Se7en hard with the Barnaby Jones clothesline and polished him off.

Morbid now has two title matches to focus on, but he also has plenty of time to prepare for them as he is not scheduled for any shows until May 7. On that date, he defends his MWA MAX-Division Title in a Triple Threat Match against Dustin Heritage and Dexter Hardaway. And one week later, he finally gets his return match for the ComPro Title against Richie Adams. Rumour has it that he will soon be issuing a challenge to TAP Champion Reckless for a shot at that title. If things work out for him, Morbid could once again be standing 3 belts deep and that #1 position in the Oklafan Top 50 might be his by the end of the year.
