Walker's Actions Betray Jealous Motives

Walker's Actions Betray Jealous Motives

Posted: Mar 11th 2010 By: CMBurnham

It?s been slightly more than three years since El Super Colibri burst on the scene in Oklahoma. In that short time, he became a fixture to small children, winning acclaim and popularity. Easily identifiable with his mask and the chant of ?918? that followed him, Colibri seemed to be the type of performer that would forever be associated with the cheers and adulation of the crowd. Within the past few months, a performer named Brandon Walker began appearing at events. He debuted in Oklahoma during a battle royal in the summer of 2009 and became a regular in UWE as well as making appearances in federations in Arkansas. Also a fan favourite, Walker possessed a similar build and style to Colibri, but used some different moves and didn?t wear a mask.

Few people suspected that they were the same person. And based on the events of the past days, there can be little confusion now between Colibri and Walker as they have turned out to be vastly different individuals despite sharing the same body.

For the past few months, Colibri has been the target of MWA MAX-Division, TAP Oklahoma Heritage and ComPro Champion Shane Morbid. Morbid thought he had rid himself of Colibri over the summer, but in November, MWA ring announcer Ray Martinez informed Morbid that he would have to defend his MAX-Division Title against Colibri in December. When December rolled around, Morbid threw everything at Colibri he had, but none of it was enough as the lithe challenger wouldn?t stay down. Frustrated beyond belief, Morbid grabbed a chair and clocked Colibri with it, then promised the crowd that he would hold onto the MAX-Division Title forever. With tactics like that , where a DQ will not allow the title to change hands, it seemed that Morbid?s promise might come true.

But Colibri refused to stay away and made a deal with MWA Director of Operations Mike Iles. As a result, he received a Tables Match against Morbid for the title at their March show. This is one of the most dangerous matches in pro wrestling as the only way to end the match is to throw your opponent through a table. Morbid went for the lumber early, eventually stacking two tables on top of each other in front of the rampway-side of the ring. Colibri was cognizant of the construction and did what he could to avoid it, but Morbid?s devastating offence wore the masked star down to the point where it was no a big challenge to pick him up and Border Toss him over the top rope and through the tables on the outside of the ring. As the bell rang, a hush fell over the crowd and security rushed to the outside area to check on the condition of the fallen competitor. Colibri didn?t move for several minutes while Morbid took the opportunity to gloat and further cement his legacy as the ?King of the MAX-Division?.

Perhaps it was the impact from that match. Perhaps it was the steel chair shot earlier. Or perhaps it was a plot all along, but something inside Colibri snapped and he became a different man. Nobody knew that at the time, but when he showed up at the ComPro show in Tulsa the next night, he was there with a purpose. Colibri hadn?t wrestled for ComPro in several months, when he had been injured during Team SuperBad?s loss of the ComPro Tag Team Titles to Michael York & TAP Champion Reckless. Justin Lee was receiving a tag team title shot this night against ComPro Tag Team Champions Excellence Personified, but instead of teaming with Colibri, he went back to his original tag team partner, Kenny Campbell, reforming ICF.

The night started with a bad omen for Justin as he gave himself a black eye after crashing on the concrete following a plancha from the top turnbuckle on Jack Legacy & SWCW Luchadore Champion Se7en. ICF?s tag team continuity lessened a little after that as Justin found it difficult to focus due to the throbbing pain and swelling around his left eye. But he and Campbell still put on a tremendous effort, making EP feel sufficiently concerned that manager Mike Iles handed Se7en some brass knuckles, which he used to knock Kenny senseless, then pin him. Not the successful end that ICF had hoped for, but things were about to get much worse. EP continued to stomp on the challengers until former champions Legion 13 stormed the ring, together with El Super Colibri. With Kenny Campbell dumped unceremoniously on the outside, Colibri allowed Legion 13 & EP to battle their way to the back, then helped Justin back to his feet. Once again, Team SuperBad stood together in the ring, but that didn?t last long as, after saluting the crowd with Justin, Colibri clotheslined the fatigued wrestler back onto the mat. Colibri then ripped the mask off, revealing himself as Brandon Walker and saying that Colibri was dead. In an act of utter contempt, Walker gave the fallen Lee two Defamation of Characters and then left, forcing Kenny Campbell to struggle back into the ring and help his fallen comrade.

People might ask why Walker did what he did. The answer seems fairly obvious. While it?s true that Lee broke into the sport with Kenny Campbell as his tag team partner, they had not teamed regularly since 2002. A few nostalgia appearances had occurred, including one near the beginning of 2009 which at one point saw Colibri join Justin and Kenny as ?Team Super ICF?. Walker was even given his own ICF T-shirt, although it was not stated if he was given official recognition in the ICF membership. Walker?s actions reek of pure jealousy. He was jealous of Campbell coming in and taking back the title opportunity (an opportunity Team SuperBad had never received) as well as potentially taking away his tag team partner. This jealousy, combined with the head trauma suffered over the past few weeks, unleashed the dark side of Brandon Walker and that personality is now running loose in ComPro.

Although not officially announced, it seems highly likely that a match between Walker and Lee will be happening at Night of Champions XIX this Saturday.
