Ultimate Shocker At Ultimate X-Mas

Ultimate Shocker At Ultimate X-Mas

Posted: Dec 27th 2009 By: CMBurnham

For the second time, SWCW closed their year with what is considered by many to be the most death-defying, intense match in existence: Ultimate X. Last year, Rage Logan and Damien Morte fought in the first Ultimate X Match held in the state. This year, the ante was upped as 6 combatants waged war to claim a Sure-Shot contract briefcase. But at the end of the match, the entire spectrum of SWCW had changed due to the actions of Nemesis.

On November 11, the qualifying matches began to determine who would compete in the Ultimate X Match. Last year's winner, Damien Morte, defeated Bobby Star to be the first person to qualify. Later that day, Rage Logan defeated David Kyzer. After that match, Logan brought up how they were in last year's match and that Rage had defeated Morte on that occasion. Morte admitted that happened, but said it only happened by a hair and extended a hand to Logan, wishing him luck. Logan refused to shake the hand and walked away from the rest of the Nemesis, saying he didn't need luck in this match. It proved to be a move that he would regret.

November 25 saw two more men qualify as SWCW Cruiserweight Champion Xavior defeated Moonshine and David Kyzer received second chance at qualifying when he was placed against Bud Barnes. Barnes had tripped Moonshine during his qualifying match, then held his foot for the 3 count. Moonshine sought a little revenge and got it by luring Barnes outside the ring and causing him to be counted out. As Kyzer celebrated his win, the rest of Nemesis came to the ring. Logan congratulated Kyzer, then told him to go to the back. He took the opportunity to play a video from last year's match and said he would win again, just like last time, because the other 5 people in the match meant nothing to him. This obviously upset Morte and Xavior and Morte screamed that he was going to win the match. Logan said he beat Morte last year and will do so again. He also said Xavior wasn't a threat to him. He didn't even understand why Xavior was there. Xavior reminded Logan that it was every man for himself, but Logan didn't seem to care and again left Nemesis in the ring.

The final two men qualified on December 6 during a tag team match. SWCW Tag Team Champions Rated N took on The Canadian Red Devil & Sage. The end of the match saw Sage give a belly-to-back suplex to Crisstopher Crow, but both men had their shoulders down. This resulted in a double pin, so SWCW acting commissioner Shawn McKeaigg determined that both men would be entered into the match. The rest of Nemesis chose this moment to attack Sage until David Kyzer came out. Kyzer, Sage, Crow & Xavior battled outside the ring, leaving Morte & Logan in the ring, unaware of each other. When they backed into each other and spun around, Logan punched Morte and Morte was irate about this. Before the brawl could get out of control, Crow & Xavior ran in to break it up. But now all the members of the match were set. It was just a matter of waiting two weeks for the match to happen.

On December 19, all 6 men entered the ring for the Ultimate X Match. To describe the action would be nearly impossible as all 6 men put their bodies on the line, taking incredible risks and repeatedly plummeting to the canvase 10 feet below the "X" where the suitcase was. Both Morte and Crow also executed suicide dives from the top rope to the outside onto the rest of the group. After 20+ minutes of excitement, Damien Morte climbed to middle of the "X", unhooked the briefcase, and dropped to the mat, winning the match.

Nemesis was ecstatic. Not only had Morte won, but former member Damon Windsor had returned and won a title shot at SWCW Champion 3rd Rail. Although he wasn't able to win that match, Nemesis now stood united in the ring. But that didn't last as Logan was obviously upset, going so far as to slug Morte and say that he (Logan) was supposed to win. But after that, Logan calmed down and shook Morte's hand, offering an apology. He also congratulated Kyzer and Sage. Damon Windsor took the mic and said that he was impressed. He thought Logan was cutthroat, but he saw some heart today from him. Then, in an amazing and totally unexpected moment, Windsor declared there was no room for heart in Nemesis. Windsor clobbered Logan with the briefcase and the entire group moved in to annihilate their former leader. Windsor declared that without Nemesis, Logan was nothing and Morte stepped forward, promising to take Nemesis to legendary status.

The group also attacked Kyzer and Sage until Sage got a chair and drove them off. As Logan recovered from the attack, he seemed to be a man alone. He wants nothing to do with Nemesis, but people like Kyzer and Sage (who is his former tag team partner in the New Style Outsiders) aren't sure they want anything do with him. And besides to future of Rage Logan, there's also the question of what title Damien Morte will challenge for. Nemesis already posseses the Cruiserweight & Tag Team Titles. Morte has experience in the Hardcore division, so it wouldn't be surprising to see him challenge Maniac Mike for that title. But could he have eyes set on Se7en's Luchadore title? Or even more bizarrely, 3rd Rail and SWCW Heavyweight Title? More questions than answers seem to have arisen out of this match and 2010 looks to be exciting as developments unfurl in the wake of Ultimate X.
