No Payoff In Tag Team Scene For Syndicate

No Payoff In Tag Team Scene For Syndicate

Posted: Oct 17th 2009 By: CMBurnham

Desperate to reclaim the glory they had two years ago, the New Age Syndicate have sunk to new levels as they try to gain tag team titles. But no matter where they go, it seems that those belts remain elusive to the twin enforcers.

The Sanders' have recently invaded SWCW in full force and targeted SWCW Tag Team Champions the Good Ol' Boys. Stealing the tag team title belts after a triple threat match at the end of August, the Sanders made it clear that they meant business and were certain they could claim the gold properly. Two weeks later, SWCW commissioner Miss Sheila granted them a title shot. That match ended in a DQ when the Sanders brought their Singapore canes into the ring and began to annihilate Bud Barnes and his cousin Moonshine. This brought Sheila out again and she announced that since the Sanders' wanted to use the canes, she'd be willing to make it legal and she announced that the tag team titles would once again be on the line next month, but this time it would be in an Oklahoma Street Fight.

With a month to prepare for event, you'd expect the Sanders' to retreat and train. But that wasn't the case. A high profile feud with the Canadian Cone Connection culminated in Country Whippin' Match. Although they came out on the losing end of that feud, they did end up in the tournament to fill the vacant MSWA Mid-South Tag Team Titles. They were eliminated by eventual champions Aerial Assault. They also revisited the site of their greatest tag team success: IZW. As former 2-time IZW Tag Team Champions, they can consider their tenure as the height of their career. And when they heard there was a tournament going on to determine the #1 contenders to the IZW Tag Team Titles, they contacted IZW Comissioner Steve O and were given a slot. Again, they came up short as they were defeated by the Nemesis combination of Rage Logan and Crisstopher Crow.

It was this confrontation with Nemesis that may have sowed the seeds for the events at the SWCW show. With essentially unlimited funds at their disposal, the Sanders saw an opportunity to gain something without any personal risk. Combined with the FACT that Scott Sanders had suffered an unspecified leg injury, probably at the MSWA show the prevous week and the Sanders found they could not battle for the tag team titles they so desperately wanted. So they came out to the ring and announced that while they could not compete for the belts, they had hired some assistance. That assistance: Nemesis. This meant that the Good Ol' Boys faced a potential 6-on-2 situation and it was all legal, thanks to the stipulation of the Oklahoma Street Fight.

The champions never showed any fear as they came to the ring. Nemesis surrounded them while the Scott & Shawn Sanders sat at ringside and watched. Eventually, the pairing of Crow & Xavior entered the ring and the match was on. A flurry of weapons were also entered iinto the match, including Singapore canes, trash cans and cookie sheets. Both champions ended up bloody messes as the violence continued, both with the legal members of Nemesis and the outside members. A frustrated Jeff Kiger, who had the unenviable position of trying to be referee for this match, ejected Rage Logan and Damien Morte and also ordered the NAS to leave ringside as well, but they refused to leave and Kiger could only waste so much energy arguing with them. Turning his attention back to the match, he was fortunate to see the rally by the champions and, to the complete dismay of the NAS, the Good Ol' Boys put away Nemesis and regained the belts that had always belonged to them anyway.

Although it seemed that their opportunities had run out, the Syndicate might have one more chance, as SWCW announced that on October 24, there would be a 16-team Eliminaton match for the SWCW Tag Team Titles. It only seems obvious that the NAS would have a slot in that match, whether they earned it or not.
