Bad Boy Back In Action
Posted: Aug 14th 2009 By: CMBurnham
MSWA owner Bad Boy has been notable absent in the past 4 months, leading to many rumours circulating during MSWA shows. Everything from family emergencies to the buyout of MSWA by IZW was suspected in Bad Boy's absence. But the truth is that he and his team of lawyers had been contesting a lawsuit brought against the company by SWCW Hardcore Champion Maniac Mike. This past Sunday, that lawsuit was settled the way all things in wrestling should be: in the ring.
The issue between the two seems to have started almost 4 months ago, when Bad Boy defeated Maniac Mike to retain his then-Oklahoma title. After the match, Mike took the title belt and attacked Bad Boy with it. That would be Mike's last in-ring appearance for a few months, as the belt shot did more damage then originally thought. But while Mike had put Bad Boy out, it only served to enrage him as he couldn't win the MSWA Oklahoma Title with the champion on the shelf. So Mike began to focus on other wrestlers to take his frustration out on. And that frustration transformed into sadism as Mike began to employ a screwdriver to attack his opponents with during and after matches.
Although the violence in Mike's matches increased, his success ratio didn't. Mike lost to MSWA Mid-South & IZW Champion Aaron Neil and had repeated difficulty with ComPro Showtime Champion The Canadian Red Devil. On one occasion, the Devil earned a victory over Mike by DQ when the screwdriver was employed. But one month later, the two found themselves paired off again in an aborted tournament to determine the #1 contender to the MSWA Oklahoma Title. The Devil advanced in that tournament, but was the victim of a vicious post-match attack by Maniac Mike. This brought MSWA Commissioner Outlaw out, who immediately fined Mike $22 000 and suspended for life from MSWA!! It appeared that Outlaw's No-Excuses attitude had rid the company of one of the most problematic competitors on its roster. That appearance was wrong.
On July 12, Outlaw revealed that Mike had sued MSWA for wrongful termination and was demanding $2500 in compensation. As a result of this and a few other factors, the MSWA board was forced to reinstate Maniac Mike until the lawsuit was resolved. They also requested that he step down as commissioner as well until that resolution happened. With no one to stand up to him, Mike returned on July 26 to face TOPW Oklahoma Champion Brandon Groom. Once again, when Mike came out on the losing side, he attempted a post-match attack on Groom with the screwdriver, but Groom was able to wrestle it away from him and Mike quickly beat a retreat.
So with no one apparantly willing to stand up for the company, Mike strode to the ring confidently on August 9, prepared to inflict damage on another victim. But when Milton Winkelman announced his opponent, the terror in Mike's eyes shown right through, as it was Bad Boy! For the first time in 4 months, Bad Boy returned to one-on-one competition. Before starting the match, Bad Boy addressed the fans, telling them that in his absence, he'd been informed about the lawsuit and chicanery that had been going on. He didn't like lawers and wanted to handle things like men, so he announced that if he won this match, the lawsuit would be dropped and Outlaw would be reinstated as commissioner. Mike seemed to agree with this idea and the match was on. It wasn't long before Mike was once again up to his old tricks, pulling the screwdriver out and using it while shielding his body from the referee. But Bad Boy eventually rallied, connected with an inverted DDT and pinned the maniacal star to earn the win.
With that, a long arduous chapter in MSWA history was over and Bad Boy could now focus on the more important issue: the invasion of MSWA by Impact, Inc. Bad Boy made his presence known at the conclusion of the "Old School Corner" segment, setting up the main event pitting Johnny Z & GPCW Wichita Mountains Champion Jermaine Johnson against Aaron Neil & AWFUL & SWCW Champion Kevin Morgan. But that didn't solve the issue between Johnny & Aaron by any means and Bad Boy is sure to have his hands full protecting his company in the future.
Maniac Mike also faced an unexpected twist in his match this Sunday. Originally it was to be Mike, Kareem Sadat & Carl the Collector against X-Rated in a Hardcore Handicap Match, but Sadat was involved in a motor accident and will not be able to participate in that main event. No word has been released as to whether Sadat's team will be allowed to find a substitute or if it will be a two-on-two match.
