Twice As Nice! Are Two Belts Too Much For Morgan?

Twice As Nice! Are Two Belts Too Much For Morgan?

Posted: Jun 11th 2009 By: CMBurnham

In the brief time that AWFUL Champon Kevin Morgan has been an in-ring competitor, a lot of attention has fallen on his tag team escapades with Xavior as the New Varsity Club. But he was also the first OECW Champion and that taste of Heavyweight Singles gold lingered in Morgan's mouth for quite a while. It was something he wouldn't taste again until he had won a 6-man tournament to become the first AWFUL Champion one month ago.

As nice as that accomplishment is, there's another that Morgan is trying to bring to fruition. That is to win the SWCW Title. The month of May has seen Morgan receive two shots at the SWCW Title. In the first one, the match went to a time-limit draw, although when the bell rang, Morgan had SWCW Champion 3rd Rail in a pinning predicament. 3 weeks later, at their next event, it appeared that Morgan had defeated Rail for the title, but that decision was reversed by the referee and "The Monster" once again escaped with his title.

On June 7, Kevin Morgan came to the ring to address the crowd. He apologised in advance for his tone, but he was "pissed" because on two seperate occassions, he had 3rd Rail beaten for the championship, but ended up getting screwed in the outcome. He made it publicly known that he wanted one more chance. He believed that will be all it will take to become the next SWCW Champion. At that point, the champion decided to share his opinion on the matter and 3rd Rail strode to the ring.

Both men publicly shared their mutual respect for each other, with Rail noting that when Morgan got a chance, he didn't hold back and Rail now understands why the fans think of him as "Totally Awesome". But he reminded Morgan that he is the champion because he took it. No one gave it to him. He's been a fighting champion and he won't take it easy on Morgan, but he is willing to defend his title one more time against him., Rail said that if the commissioner wanted to make the math, he would look forward to that, but but he would make an example of out Morgan. That comment brought the boiling passion to the top and both men stepped nose-to-nose in the middle of the ring. A series of shoves quickly broke down into a slugfest until Rail locked Morgan in the Cobra Clutch.

At this point, X-Rated hit the ring and pulled Rail off of Morgan. His temper still out of control, Rail beat off both Sanchez brothers and went back to deal with Morgan. But the Sanchezes recoupe and waited for Rail to turn around, then hit a double Superkick on the champion. "The Monster" collapsed in the middle of the ring and a series of crotch-chops were made in Rail's direction by the former SWCW Tag Team Champions.

Kevin Morgan then speared both Sanchezes, displaying anger at the FACT that they had interfered in his business. He went over to Rail to help him up, but Rail shoved Morgan off and it looked like things were back to square one until SWCW Commissioner Miss Sheila arrived and said this had to stop., Rail began to protest, saying that Morgan had started everything, but Sheila wasn't listening. She then made the announcement that the fans had been wanting to hear, saying there would be one more match between Morgan and Rail at the next SWCW show on June 28. She also promised to deal privately with each man regarding their behaviour in the ring and then left as the competitors calmly gathered their wits and went back to the locker room.

So Morgan now has what he wanted. But can he capitalise? He's come so close the other two times, only to have some minute detail escape him and keep him away from the big belt. Perhaps the third time will be the charm and Morgan could join IZW and MSWA Mid-South Champion Aaron Neil as the only dual singles champion in the state currently.
