Excerpts of Hillybilly Jim's "Moonshine Matinee" for 4/4 featuring Ted DiBiase

Posted: Apr 6th 2009 By: mikeiles

Hillbilly Jim tells the "hill-billions" to return to the show for the 4th hour in Mud Lick, says again that it's WM25 weekend & says Houston, Texas is at the door. He says we're fired up & don't know what to say, then says he's got 1 of his dearest friends that's ever put on a pair of boots in the ring & is still viable today. He then introduces Ted DiBiase on the phone & asks him as to how he's doing. DiBiase says he's OK & Hillbilly says he's fine too. He says he's been looking forward to this all week knowing that they'll be talking & asks as to how's everything in Houston. DiBiase says things are starting to ramp up with the talent starting to arrive now.

DiBiase says people are starting to talk, the buzz is in the air & says it's Wrestlemania time. Hillbilly says that DiBiase knows that he's been thru lots of them, says it's a big time for the business & it's their Super Bowl. He asks as to who'd ever believe that it's been 25 years of Wrestlemanias, DiBiase says it makes himself feel old & confesses that he is an old man. Hillbilly tells DiBiase that he don't look old, says there's lots of festivities occuring at Wrestlemania & 1 of the big thing that everyone points out is the Hall Of Fame. He says there's a couple of special guys that'll be inducted there is Dory & Terry Funk that DiBiase has stories on them.

DiBiase says those 2 are near & dear to his heart, says his relationship with them goes back to his childhood & says his late dad Iron Mike DiBiase & the Funks' dad Dory Funk Sr. were good friends & competed with each other for years. He says he went to school in the old Amarillo territory when he was in the 1st & 6th grade & when he graduated from high school & after his dad died. He says his dad was wrestling in Amarillo at the time of his death, then says after done with high school he signed a scholarship to play football at the University of Arizona. He says when he turned the TV on 1 day & there was wrestling in Amarillo.

DiBiase says they [the Funks] went to "Tuson", he went to see them, made a recruited trip to West Texas & says the rest is history. Hillbilly says the Funks were always something else, says that was when wrestling was magical & says the bug got DiBiase from his dad being a wrestler. He asked DiBiase if the Funks trained him, DiBiase says yes & had a great deal to do with his early training. He says he loves them both, says he & Terry are the closest &
are closer in age too. He says the funny thing about that part of Texas is that the joke is West Texas gratuated more wrestlers then football players.

DiBiase mentions Tully Blanchard, Tito Santana, Stan Hansen, Bruiser Brody, Dusty Rhodes, Dick Murdoch, & says all of them came from West Texas & were all influenced by the Funks. Hillbilly says all of them are 1st class hall of famers if there ever was one & asked him if Terry ever pulled any ribs on him. DiBiase asks if a pig's butt bacon & Hillbilly says that's right.
He says Terry's a funny guy, says he loves him today & says "wake Dory up, he's gonna get in the ring".

Hillbilly says with Terry it didn't look like every step he took was gonna hold him up & can get thru a match as good as anyone. DiBiase agrees, Hillbilly says the Funks will be WWE Hall Of Famers & it'll be exciting & DiBiase says he can't wait to see it. Hillbilly says he wishes he was there because he don't think that he'll be there but asked DiBiase to tell the Funks that he said hi & says they're the best. He says he wants to talk about the days of himself & DiBiase, says he had a priviledge being there at a magical time when DiBiase came in & says
"The Million Dollar Man" thing was fantastic with the "Million Dollar Belt". He says DiBiase's wrestling past spoke for itself & asked if they didn't have a good ol' time.

DiBiase agrees & in his opinion it was a magical time, says what they did in the 80's & early 90's is what paved the road for the industry today & says he couldn't have been prouder then to be a part of it. He says his 1st Wrestlemania was WM4, says before that he was working for Bill Watts in [UWF] Mid South & when he picked up a newspaper the day after WM3 & saw that the world attendance record was [over] 93,000 people at the Silverdome & says that's where he has to be. Hillbilly says both were there & it was good, says DiBiase came
in the following year & says that to say that DiBiase made an impact would be taking it light.

Hillbilly says DiBiase's always been 1 of the greatest wrestlers in & out of the ring, a dear buddy of his & says they've had lots of laughs. He says both would rib on Virgil all the time, says that every time he's seen DiBiase they go back as if it was yesterday when dialing back the time & see the guys that they don't get a chance to see that much. He says that DiBiase's 1 of them that's always stayed the same from the 1st day that he's seen him to today. He says in this business lots of guys go off the sidetrack, DiBiase agrees & Hillbilly tells him to hold on because he'll be playing a song. He asks DiBiase if he likes The Eagles, DiBiase says yes & Hillbilly says he'll play 1 by them.

Hillbilly again introduces himself that's on Sirius XM who's talking to his dear friend & 1 of the greatest wrestlers of all time & it's DiBiase. He tells DiBiase that when thinking of Wrestlemania, old timers like themselves start itching & "figiding" & can feel on what's fixing to happen. DiBiase says there's nothing like it, says until you walk thru the curtain & hear the roar of the crowd, it's like when people get addicted to drugs & alcohol, the crowd's roar can also be addicted. Hillbilly says when talking about people watching the business & being influenced by it, that brings to his next point that he was thinking about. He then asks DiBiase on his opinion of the movie "The Wrestler".

DiBiase says after seeing it he went home & told his wife who wasn't with him & he was out of town when seeing the movie. He said he told her that if people see the movie & feel that's what wrestling is then people will have a false view of it because that's not what the business is. He says what the movie did do was that it did very well on what can happen to a guy if he choses that path. He says Mickey Rourke played that part well, says sometimes guys when living the roar of that crowd that becomes the God of your life & you're willing to do all &
whatever such as steroids, booze & the whole deal. He says you end up losing sight of what's important.

DiBiase says in the movie Rourke lost his family & basically gave his life, Hillbilly says that he's told people that lots of people that have problems like this is unfortunate & we hate it so bad because they're friends to them. He says he has a theory that most people will have problems like that whether they were pro wrestlers, bank employees, gas employees or factory workers, but it's in their character. DiBiase agrees & says when the sad story of Chris Benoit came out, he was on Larry King where he told Larry that WWE's got a "strengent" drug testing policy where it has 3 strikes & you're out. He says the 1st is a 30 day suspension & if you need rehab, WWE will put you thru it.

DiBiase continues to say that the 2nd time's a 60 day suspension & the 3rd time you're fired. He says what else do they want WWE to do, asks as to when do we hold people responsible for their own actions, Hillbilly agrees 100% & says you have to look into the mirror & tell people that it's your own fault. He says he'd love to hear stories about guys like DiBiase & himself, says they're still there & having fun & DiBiase says he's having fun & happily married for 26 years. He says you'd hear some people & think that all guys beat up their wives & says he's never laid a hand on his wife because she'd beat him up. Hillbilly agrees & says someone else in his family would beat him up.

Hillbilly mentions DiBiase's son [Ted DiBiase Jr.] & says that DiBiase's gotta be proud as a peacock of his son. DIBiase says he's beaming from ear to ear that they let him introduced his son on the 1st night on the show [Raw] & Hillbilly says he saw it. DiBiase says as he watches his son it's kinda scary because his son does many of his own mannerisms. He says
everyone likes his son, says the talk in the industry about his son's that he's a kid with lots of character & Hillbilly says he's heard it too. DiBiase says that's the thing that makes him proud, Hillbilly agrees & says when he hears that they're good guys, we know that there's lots of them that go thru the business & they're tough & do this.

Hillbilly says some of them have character flaws just like any sport, says he's heard that DiBiase's son is top notch & 1st class & reminds people on who the son's dad is. He says the son's dad is a good ol' fellow too & the chip don't fall too far off the block. He asks DiBiase if he still lives in Mississippi, DiBiase says yes & Hillbilly says on this Wrestlemania weekend he'll play a song ["Close Enough To Perfect"] for somewhere down close to Mississippi & says DiBiase will like it because he knows that DiBiase likes this group & it's Alabama.

Hillbilly again introduces himself, says he's in his element by having fun & again says it's WM 25 weekend in Houston & has 1 of his real pals & it's DiBiase. He says he's often said that the toughest & meanest man in wrestling & it's The Million Dollar Man when standing on that money. He tells DiBiase about the WM 25 matches & asks him on his predictions on HHH vs Orton, DiBiase says if there's ever a fight that'll occur that 1 is gonna be the 1. He says his
son's part of The Legacy, you know where he'll be leaning on. He says the 1 thing that he's always found is that you can mess with lost of things but when messing with someone's family, it can get real serious.

DiBiase feels that it [HHH vs Orton] will be the main event & it should be because it'll be the battle of the night. Hillbilly says both Orton & DiBiase Jr. are both 3rd generation wrestlers & says both have that in their DNA's. He says HHH's no slotch & can go, then asks the predictions of Jeff Hardy vs Matt Hardy in an extreme rules match & says because they're brothers, there's gonna be some fighting there. DiBiase says it's the same thing, says it's like you can have this fight & that fight but when you love someone in the family & go "cross aired" with them, they seem to have the biggest brawls of all. Hillbilly says the biggest fights you see are at the dinner table or in the bedroom & DiBiase says it can be over a chicken bone.

Hillbilly says it's like "I've had it with you 25 years & it ain't very good, I'm gonna beat you up". He then mentions a match that goes back in their world & it's The Undertaker vs HBK. DiBiase says he's been watching & says nobody since Taker's been in WWE has gotten away with the stuff that HBK's done in the last 2 or 3 weeks. He says this is gonna be "Katie bar the door", says that he feels that next to the HHH vs Orton match, the HBK vs Taker's gonna be the other match of the night. Hillbilly says it'll be a good 1, says people can still see the matches of himself & DiBiase by viewing WWE 24/7's & says in April, it'll have "Large & In Charge".

Hillbilly says if you don't have it on your cable to call your provider to get this & says fans will see DiBiase's matches with his Million Dollar + Belt. He asks DiBiase that if his belt was worth a million dollars then what would it be worth now, DiBiase says he don't know with today's economy & says they won't go there. Hillbilly says he respects DiBiase & has fun with him, says they've always had a good laugh & says when he sees him, it don't matter if it was in Maine or Spain, you'll always have his big ol' smile on his face & they'd always had a
good laugh. He says it don't look like the weather's changed, DiBiase agrees & says he & Hillbilly are the same guys that they've always been.

DiBiase says it's the heart that counts, says he's excited & says he's in Lion Stadium where it'll be sold out. He says the Fan Axxess' fixin' to start up & says this month, the "Legends Of Wrestlemania" video game will be out from THQ. He says on that game he looks real good,
Hillbilly agrees & DiBiase says that his son told him that he saw the game with his dad
in it, he asked his dad as to when did he ever looked like that & says he almost smacked his son for that remark. Hillbilly says DiBiase's 1 of a kind, says he'll forever be The Million Dollar Man & says he's #1 on whatever he does.

Hillbilly asks DiBiase to get together as soon as they can, DiBiase tells him to go to Mississippi & they'll go fishing & Hillbilly tells him that if he comes to Mud Lick, they'll have grits, gravy & fried chicken. DiBiase says he's ready for it but he'll have to do double time on the cardio. Hillbilly says both of them will chase the hogs in the back field there which'll run all of the weight from them. He tells DiBiase that if Dusty ever gets in his face to knock him down for him, DiBiase says that the "son of a plumber" won't take him down & Hillbilly tells DiBiase that he appreciates him. He wishes him good luck to him & his son & everyone else at WM25, tells him to have a good time & thanks him for coming on the show. DiBiase says God bless him & Hillbilly tells him that he'll see him next time.
