Kenny Campbell: Back To Make An Impact
Posted: Dec 30th 2008 By: CMBurnham
Just when he thought he was out, he came back in.
Rumours had circulated widely that Kenny Campbell was done in professional wrestling. He'd fulfilled his obligations in Mid-States Wrestling and ACW and had competed in what many thought was his final card for NWA-OK, tagging with Mike DiBiase against The Albright Brothers. Most of Kenny's fans, though, saw what they thought was his final match when he lost the IZW Impact Division Title to Dustin Heritage in a 5-way Ladder Match at IZW's return to Lawton.
That was in September and Kenny did not wrestle in Oklahoma for the remainder of the year bar the NWA-OK appearance. So when "The Vulture"s name was announced as the first inductee to the IZW Hall of Impact by Jesse Storm at the December 20 "Chaotic Christmas" event, there really wasn't much of a surprise. Kenny has never been much of one to give long speeches and was quick and to the point with his post-induction talk, acknowledging his long partnership with Tyler Bateman as Team Shenanigans. After Kenny & his fellow inductee Brad Michaels had their pictures revealed on the wall of the Impact Arena to conclude their induction, Revolution (Dane Griffin & IZW Impact Division Champion Seth Allen) made their way to the ring. Seth was audibly upset about the use of his comments about both Kenny & Brad during the video tributes to the respective stars. He specifically stated that he learned everything he knows about wrestling from Brad Michaels while they were members of the Old School Assassins, but that Brad Michaels didn't exist anymore. Michaels responded by saying that Seth was no one but an "ungrateful son of a bitch" and that he beat Allen on his first day in wrestling. Michaels even went so far as to say that he was the only person in wrestling to care when Seth was shipped off to Iraq in 2005. He concluded by saying that he wondered if Seth was ever going to "get it" and then dropped the microphone. Kenny walked forward and backed Seth into the corner, appearing to be ready to physically confront "The Original Sensation", but then exited the ring.
At that moment, Seth claimed that none of that mattered. But it did. And it cost Allen his title belt. Later in that show, Seth had to defend against Dustin Heritage. Dane Griffin stayed at ringside for that event and interfered on several occasions until Brad Michaels & Kenny Campbell ran to ringside. Brad began to fight with Dane while Kenny distracted Seth, allowing Dustin to hit the superkick and win the Impact Division Title for the second time.
One week later, Seth had not forgotten who cost him his title and embarrassed him in front of 300+ fans. So, to try and gain revenge, Seth & Dane came out during Kenny's return match against Austin Tacious. Kenny didn't wait for Revolution to interfere and "plancha"ed over the top rope on to them to fight with them outside the ring. That battle continued while the referee counted Kenny out of the ring, giving Austin a rare win in IZW. Then Dustin Heritage and Aaron Neil appeared to chase off Revolution. After Dustin called for Seth to return and Aaron Neil addressed his continuing issues with Angel Williams, Kenny took the mic and said he only had two things on his mind; 1: Seth Allen and 2: "kicking the hell out of Seth Allen".
Kenny wouldn't get his chance, but Dustin & Aaron were given the opportunity to get their hands on the evasive heels when IZW Co-Commissioner Steve O made the main event for the evening Revolution vs. Dustin & Aaron. The match was heated and surprisingly equal, considering that Neil & Heritage are not regular tag team partners. But Neil & Heritage weren't quite good enough and Revolution picked up the win. That wasn't sufficient for them and there was a brief post-match beatdown by the dastardly duo before Kenny Campbell came down the aisle and Seth & Dane scattered.
Kenny has made his desires known. He wants to get his hands on Seth Allen. And it isn't about a title. It's a personal matter. Many fans believe that Kenny is an uncrowned Heavyweight Champion in this state. Perhaps, once he's brought his issue with Seth to a close, he'll make one last run at cementing his legacy in this business.
