Contenders Without Championships: How Long Will The South Siders Wait?

Contenders Without Championships: How Long Will The South Siders Wait?

Posted: Nov 20th 2008 By: CMBurnham

For two months, The South Side Soul Assassins have waited. And waited. And they're still waiting. They're waiting for MSWA Mid-South Tag Team Champions The Forsaken to step up and defend their titles. They've been the #1 contenders all that time. And their patience is running out.

On September 14, Tyson Jaymes & SWCW Champion 3rd Rail defeated current SWCW Tag Team Champions The New Varsity Club to become the #1 contenders to the tag team titles. But one month passed and they still hadn't received their title shot. On October 12, interim MSWA commissioner Outlaw ordered a rematch to occur between the South Siders and Kevin Morgan & Xavior. And he appointed himself the special referee. Despite blatant cheating and favouritism from Outlaw towards the NVC, the South Siders prevailed and remained the #1 contender.

And still, the Forsaken were not heard from.

Two weeks later, IZW Impact Division Champion Seth Allen gained the commissionership and put the South Side Soul Assassins' #1 contendership on the line again against The New Age Syndicate. These former enemies had been on the same side for quite a while, but when it came to the titles, nothing would prevent these teams from holding anything back. Nothing was clearly determined as the SSSA & current OECW Tag Team Champion Scott Sanders & OECW Champion Shawn Sanders fought to a Double Countout. This kept the title shot in the hands of the SSSA.

And still, the Forsaken were not heard from.

This past Friday, the SSSA were present once again, hoping that Halo and his brother, TCBW Champion Michael Faith, would show up and put the belts on the line. They got part of their wish, as Halo was present. But with Faith in Houston, TX, there would once again be no title defence. Halo calmly sat and observed procedings on the ring and witnessed the events that went down between the SSSA and T. M. S. While this contest did not put the #1 contendership at stake, a loss by the SSSA would have been a mightly blow. That didn't happen, despite extensive shenanigans from Seth Allen & Dane Griffin. The SSSA stood triumphant in the ring and once again seem to be playing the waiting game.

Part of the reason the Forsaken have been inactive is due to a nagging injury that Halo suffered to his knee in a title defence against the NVC back in August. But the time is fast approaching where the MSWA Championship committee is going to have no choice but to strip the champions of their belts.

And all this waiting is doing nothing to help calm the tension that still seems to be brewing between Tyson & 3rd Rail. It appeared they were about to come to blows right before T. M. S. challenged them to a match. And after their victory, they seemed ready to tear into each other again, due to some more instances of miscommunication in the match. But they put that to the side, embraced and celebrated. Now, they once again wait. Perhaps this Sunday will be the day that they get their shot to once again step back to the top of the tag team mountain in MSWA.
