Gold Standard Set By SWCW

Gold Standard Set By SWCW

Posted: Oct 9th 2008 By: CMBurnham

September 27th will stand as a landmark day in SWCW history. It was a night of action, a night of new champions and a night of firsts.

The first of these "firsts" came as the show opened up with a new SWCW customized intro song followed by the all too well known music of "The Playboy' Damon Windsor. Windsor introduces himself as the official host of "Thirst For Gold".

The action kicked off with a match to crown SWCW's very first Luchador Champion. Death Row member Shank took on Jason Kirby and though Kirby put up a good fight, he ultimately fell victim to a top rope frog splash as Shank became the first Luchador Champion.

The next match up was former SWCW champion Havoc taking on Matt Emerald. Havoc has had trouble gaining momentum since losing his SWCW at May's "Path Of Destruction". He looked to restart his climb to the top with Matt Emerald. Emerald however, had different plans taking it to Havoc from the beginning and not budging an inch. But Havoc's experience won out and Emerald was dropped with Havoc's "Hangman DDT".for the 3 count.

Next up was Crisstopher "Freakshow" Crow taking on Devon Monroe. Crow made a great showing in this match, staying on top of the veteran Monroe. Shorts bursts of offense by Monroe caught Crow off-gaurd but Crow battled back and set up Monroe for his F-5 style finisher. Monroe escaped the predicament and drove the "Freakshow" into the mat with a devastating powerbomb to pick up the win.

Now it was time for more championship action. This time it was the SWCW Cruiserweight Champion "Shining Angel" Sage putting his gold up against estranged brother and former partner Rage. Rage was accompanied as usual by fellow Nemesis member Damien Morte. Rage and Sage may know each other better than anyone in SWCW and it showed. The two put on what can only be described as a five-star classic. This back and forth fever-paced match had the fans in awe as they put on a match that is easily a candidate for Match Of The Year. Angry at being unable to put Sage away, Rage went to the outside to get a chair, before he could use it though, Damien Morte took it away from his saying "you're too good for that.". Morte quickly paid for his moral interjection as Sage (aiming for Rage) hit Morte with an enzugiri kick, knocking him to the floor. As Sage went to hit a swing out slam Rage swung his weight over Sage's back and hit an amazing "Canadian Destroyer" flip pile driver. He covered Sage and became the new Cruiserweight Champion

Rage's post match celebration was cut short as Morte returned to the ring upset that Rage left Morte' down on the outside and continued to celebrate alone. Rage quickly quelled the situation by apologizing and raising Morte's hand in victory. Only to pull him in for a Rage Effect. Rage returned to his celebration as he left both Sage and Morte lying in the ring.

After intermission Damon Windsor returned to the ring, which was now decked out with a huge Hollywood sign, bar stools and a VIP Entrance sign. He introduced another first to the crowd. The first edition of Damon Windsor's "Hollywood Hit List". His first guest would be the newly crowned Cruiserweight Champion Rage. Windsor inquired about Rage's turn on his partner and his new gold. Rage replied that he was now to be reffered to as Rage Logan. He said that Nemesis lived and would die with Rage Logan. He went on to say that the fans of SWCW need to realize that "Greatness" is spelled R-A-G-E. Damien Morte had heard enough and stormed the ring, the two exchanged punches and had to be seperated by security.

After the melee was cleared out, the fans were more than geared up for the Tag Team Title match. It would be The New Varsity Club (Kevin Morgan and Xavior, w/ Damon Windsor in their corner) against SWCW Tag Team Champs X-Rated (Kevin James and Shane Sanchez). The NVC and Windsor formed a united front and looked to take out the champs. X-Rated was wise to Windsor and The NVC's tricks and got the jump on them by sliding in through the crowd and blindsiding them. X-rated was just getting going when Windsor hit a low blow on Kevin James Sanchez, followed by a big boot from Kevin Morgan. Seeing that Shane Sanchez was distracted by his brother's peril, Xavior raked his eyes to take control. The referee had yet to ring the bell to signal the start of the match so this was, unfortunately, all legal. X-Rated struggled to recover as Windsor provided constant illegal assitance and The NVC used technical prowess to control the match. Shane and Kevin James battled back, however, and as it looked like Kevin James was going to score a Superkick on Kevin Morgan, Morgan reversed into a huge spinebuster. Time was on the Sanchez's side however as Morgan was unable to make the pin before the time limit expired. The NVC claimed they had won the match, but referee Jeff Kiger ruled that time had expired and X-Rated were still tag team champions.

Now the stage was set for 'The Monster" 3rd Rail to defend his Heavyweight Championship. He would go up against the wiley Texas veteran Outlaw. Outlaw tried every dirty trick in the book to get an advantage on Rail but as usual, Rail seemed invulnerable. But after a few shady moves, and Rail being distracted by Kevin Morgan and Damon Windsor's presence outside, Outlaw wore the 400lb monster down. But Rail was not going to be denied, he powered through Outlaws onslaught and drove him to the mat with his patented "Rail Bomb",. However, Morgan jumped on the ring apron but Rail was ready for him grabbing him by the throat. But the odds were not in Rail's favor, as he was trying to get rid of Morgan, Windsor distracted the ref, allowing Morgan to drop Rail throat-first on the top rope, seinding him back into a big right hand from outlaw which layed out the giant and allowed Outlaw to get the victory and become SWCW Heavyweight Champion.

After the match, Rick Garrett came to the ring and accused Outlaw of using a "loaded" glove to lay out Rail. Outlaw took offense and challenged Garrett to put up or shut up. Garrett gladly accepted and SWCW Commissioner Miss Sheila booked a match for October 11th between the two veterans.

The final match of the night was a SWCW Hardcore title match. Kareem Sadat put his title on the line against Romo and Maniacal Mike in a triple threat. Romo and Mike spent the entire match beating each other to a pulp, abandoning most traditional wrestling, choosing weapons rather than holds. Sadat spent his time on the outside, conserving his energy until Romo seemed to have control of the match, at which time he took it to the hardcore rookie. Sadat went for a sunset flip to get the win but Romo stabled his balance and looked to be about to revere the situation when a mysterious woman in pink appeared at ringside and struck Romo with a garbage can lid, assisting Kareem in retaining his Hardcore title.

After the match, Sadat said he was impressed with Romo and Maniacal Mike and he would give them each another shot at his title at the next show. But on October 11th it won't just be a hardcore match, it will be a Tables, Ladders and Chairs match.

All in all it may have been the most exciting show all year as SWCW continues to top itself with each mega show. Be sure not to miss all the fallout from Thirst For Gold at the next SWCW show on Saturday, October 11th.
