Romero Gives Martinez An Extreme Summer Makeover

Romero Gives Martinez An Extreme Summer Makeover

Posted: Jul 1st 2008 By: CMBurnham

Since arriving in ComPro last November, Ray Martinez has managed to be a constant thorn in the side of ComPro Champion Romero Contreras. Martinez has hurled insults and allegations time after time in the direction of "The Franchise". And Romero has gone out of his way to meet those issues with the humour and physicality that the fans have come to expect from him. So when Ray was forced to put up his hair to earn a shot at the ComPro Title, the fans had no reason to believe they were going to walk away disappointed. And they were right.

Martinez spent weeks doing everything he could to get into the head of the champion. He brought in outsiders to serve as members of La M, including Dutch Hagan (disguised as El Parko Guapo) and Mitch Carter (who was so out of touch with the happenings in ComPro that he thought La M was some sort of ripoff of LAX in TNA). None of this mattered. Romero defeated Martinez and his underlings in every form of match they could come up with. 1-on-1. 2-on-1 Handicap style. Regular tag team. 6-Man tag team. And while it's true the combination of El Choppo & Jesus Rodriguez defeated Romero and his Compound Varsity teammate Justin Lee for the FCW Tag Team titles, that was the lone blemish in the record against the jovial champion.

All kidding was set aside when Martinez put his hands on ComPro commissioner Kitty. Kitty could have handled things by simply suspending Martinez (and she did, but only for one week). But she knew the fans wanted more. And so as the weeks passed, the chant of "Romero's gonna shave you!" and "Shave Ray! Shave Ray!" grew louder and louder until the match arrived. To his credit, Ray never backed down. He never showed fear. He simply continued doing what he knows best: talking, talking and more talking. Posting inflammatory messages on the ComPro message board. And preparing backup plans.

Recent fans might think of Ray as simply a manager with a ring announcer's past, but Ray has a modicum of grappling experience. He is a former SRPW X Division Champion (although he never actually competed to win or defend that title) and he also did some training for MMA competition. He knew he would need all of these skills and more to be succesful in this match. The alternative would be too embarassing to face.

When it came time for the match, Ray came to the ring, accompanied by Jesus Rodriguez. Romero came with over 100 ComPro fans firmly behind him. He also brought electric clippers. The match was much closer to even than most fans probably expected, with Ray using hit and run tactics early and finding a way to negate Romero's size by keeping him off his feet. He also had Jesus prepared. The charter member of La M used a blackjack on Romero early in the match and then applied an ether-soaked rag to the champion's face. It didn't knock him out, but it weakened him and Ray went in for submission holds after this. When none of these tactics worked, it was on to plan C as Dutch Hagen came out and interfered. He accomplished nothing but getting put on his back courtesy of a Kool-Aid Krunch. But while Romero was disposing of Dutch, Ray grabbed the hammer for the ring bell and prepared to hit Romero in the top of the head with it. Romero blocked that, kicked Ray in the stoumach and then delivered a second super-powerful Kool-Aid Krunch, knocking Ray unconscious and allowing the champion to gain the 3-count.

With Ray unconscious, the fun began. Romero had posted a question on the ComPro board asking fans how he should shave Ray's head. One of the responses was "shave it to look like Dutch Hagen" and that appears to have inspired "The Franchise". He took the clippers and quickly knocked off a bunch on the top in a "U" shape, then shaved some on the back and sides, so that he had a hairstyle akin to Bozo the Clown. And not wanting Ray to miss out on the fun, he borrowed some water from a fan and poured it on Ray to revive him after many pictures of Ray's new coif were taken by those around the ring.

A large picture of Ray's haircut is availble on the ComPro message board.

Martinez has reportedly shaved his head in completion to avoid the humiliation of the hair cut. Dutch Hagen seemed to be the only person who thought it looked good.

Ray's new haircut will be on display live next week, as he, The Gentlemen Thugs and ComPro Oklahoma X Division and TAP Oklahoma Heritage Champion Tim Rockwell will be taking part in a fundraiser for Calvary Baptist Church. Fans can purchase pies smash into the face of the above named wrestlers and all procedes will go towards a mission trip to Peru.
