Farat & Trump Bring Gold Fever To NWA-OK

Farat & Trump Bring Gold Fever To NWA-OK

Posted: Jun 20th 2008 By: CMBurnham

They seemed an unlikely duo and were certainly looked at as the dark horse in the tournament, but the pairing of Thomas Trump & MSWA Mid-South Champion Al Farat walked out of Tahlequah on June 13 with the newly revived NWA-OK Oklahoma Tag Team championship.

Perhaps the intangible that led them to the titles was the presence of Charming Charles in their corner. The managerial genius that has been part of NWA-OK almost since its beginning had guided talents to practically every title in NWA-OK and NWA-U, but never to the tag team championship. Now, Charles can watch as his debilitating duo prepares to do whatever it takes to have a long championship reign.

Farat & Trump entered the tournament with the least amount of experience as a team, although they did have an association in UWF06 as members of High Society. That previous alliance came in helpful when they faced off against the team of Justin Lee & ComPro Oklahoma X Division Champion El Super Colibri. Trump & Farat were able to neutralise their opponents' speed and high-flying maneouvres and capitalise on a 100+lb weight advantage in order to advance to the finals.

Their opponents, Mark Sterling & Darrien Sanders, scored a surprising win over what most fans believe is the best tag team in Oklahoma for the past two years: Texas, Inc. Bernard Funk & TAP Oklahoma Heritage Champion Tim Rockwell were the last NWA-U Universal Tag Team champions and came in the favourites to win this tournament. But Sterling & Sanders, who are not well known in the state, had obviously scouted their opponents well and came away with the win.

Farat & Trump again used every sneaky trick possible to defeat The Lonrs for the NWA-OK Oklahoma Tag Team Titles, but as everyone knows, winning the belts is easy. Defending them is the tough part. And as should come as no surprise, Farat & Trump were not exactly eager to put their newly won titles up for grabs the next night in Tahlequah. Charming Charles had managed to sign them for singles matches against The Masked Renegade Kowboy and 3DW Dual Kombat Champion Kunna Keyoh. Farat defeated Keyoh, but Trump was not so lucky as his frustration with MRK came through after nearly 10 minutes in the ring without being able to pin him, so Charming Charles took matters into his own hand and used his cane over MRK's back, leading to a disqualification. Trump was then joined by Farat and the evil threesome continued the beating until Keyoh came to the rescue. Keyoh then announced to the fans that he & MRK wanted to face Trump for the tag team titles after intermission. And when that match was confirmed by ring announcer C. M. Burnham, Farat, Trump & Charles were none too happy about it.

Keyoh & Trump have a lengthy past, as Trump & his current High Society partner Eric Rose have been engaged in a "Best-of-7" series against 3DW Dual Kombat Champions 2AM (Keyoh & Javi Hernandez). So both teams had a member that had scouted the other very closely and Keyoh & MRK had full confidence that they could win this bout. And at first it appeared that their dreams had come true when, Kunna ducked an attempt by Charles to knock out him out with a chain, resulting in Farat being hit (all this while referee Sylvia Richmond was distracted) and Keyoh scoring the pin. The fans were elated and Keyoh & MRK began their celebration as new Oklahoma Tag Team Champions were announced. But in the middle of the celebration, Charming Charles pulled on of his sneakiest tricks ever, as he slipped the chain he used into the back of Kunna Keyoh's trunks and when the referee saw it hanging out, she made the only conclusion she could: she determined that Keyoh had used the chain the knock out Farat and reversed the decision, awarding the match (and titles) to Farat & Trump.

With that decision rendered, Kunna's hopes of holding two championships in the state were crushed, although just 3 days later, he would capture the 3DW Violent Division Title from El Culo Intruso. Farat continues to be a dual champion, but he might lose both those titles in a matter of days. Tonight (June 20) he & Trump will again defend their Oklahoma Tag Team Titles, this time against Justin Lee & 3DW Texoma & MSWA Mid-South Tag Team Champion Les Mayne. Could Mayne walk away the first person in almost a year to hold 3 titles in 3 different federations? Plus, if Farat is able to escape with the Oklahoma Tag Team Titles intact, on Sunday, he is supposed to face ANOTHER tag team champion in the form of IZW Tag Team Champion Striker for the Mid-South Title. It's unlikely that Farat will have Charming Charles at his side in that match, although the presence of Jin Soon is possible.

And what of this unlikely alliance between Trump & Farat? Trump has seemingly been on the side of the angels in southern Oklahoma for the better part of a year. His partnership with Eric Rose is certainly popular with the ladies and they've been determined to stick with the scientific side of things. But recently, fingers have been pointed at Trump as possibly being behind the abduction of D Money, as seen in a video shown by Money's Gangsta Nation partner Thug Nasty. While members of High Society, Trump & Farat had many problems with Gangsta Nation. Might Trump have vaulted back over to the dark side as a result of championship gold?
