Paul Bearer Talks Candidly About Michael Hayes' Suspension, Working With The Undertaker And Vince McMahon

Posted: Apr 26th 2008 By: CMBurnham

In this rare candid 40 minute interview, Wrestling-Radio.com's Orlando Quinones Interviews the legendary manager Paul Bearer. The interview explores many recent and past topics - You can listen to the exclusive audio interview by Clicking Here. The Interview was lively and insightful with Paul Bearer reflecting with great spirit. Some highlights:

- On Life After WWE: Paul Bearer is keeping busy occasionally making appearances on the Independent Wrestling Circuit he says "There is life after Pro Wrestling". He also has continued to keep licences updated in order to run his funeral business which is keeping him very busy. Paul Bearer goes onto says the gastric bypass he had following his last stint with World Wrestling Entertainment (4 years ago) saved his life. He also briefly talked about his Sons being "born into the business" and what the future holds for them which then leads into an account of how he broke into the industry and who worked with throughout his career (Managing over 40!).

-On Michael Hayes: Paul Bearer gives his honest views on WWE's Michael Hayes being suspended for allegedly using the "n" word towards Mark Henry (it seems they recently spoke). Paul Bearer says he grew up with Michael Hayes and he probably knows him better then anybody. He tells us Michael Hayes has a great wrestling mind in which he has been Vince McMahon's right hand man for several years. Paul Bearer tells us why Michael Hayes wouldn't have been suspended if this happened 10 years ago but Vince had to suspend Hayes at the company is a public company. He goes on to say Michael Hayes is not a racist and he was joking around and Wrestlemania 24 with Mark Henry - he tells us and quotes what Michael Hayes actually said. Paul Bearer believes that it was more the people around who took offence to the comments and not Mark Henry although he could be wrong. Paul Bearer goes onto give more detail on the incident and if the "n" word is or has been used in the wrestling industry. (the show goes into the topic in more depth)

-Meeting Vince McMahon / "Paul Bearer" gimmick: Rick Rude hooked Paul Bearer up with Vince McMahon and literally told him to write Vince's number down and call him! he recalls his very first round table meeting with Vince McMahon, J. J. Dillion and Pat Patterson at the old Titan Towers.

-Working with The Undertaker: Paul Bearer reflects on managing The Undertaker (Mark Calaway) in his very first match when he was known as the masked Texas Red. He goes onto account his time with The Undertaker we all know today and how it all began from January 1991.

-On Scripting Wrestling back then to today Paul Bearer says: "Back in those days Vince gave us the ball and we ran with it" - His WWF funeral parlour show was never scripted and Vince McMahon has confidence in the abilities of Paul Bearer and Mark Calaway. Orlando Quinones reflects back to his childhood memories of the funeral parlour and the memorable locking up of Ultimate Warrior in a Casket!

-Working with The Ultimate Warrior: Paul Bearer gives his thoughts on some of Ultimate Warrior recent publications on the Internet and says they are pretty far out however back when he worked with him he was a very different person and he does not have a problem with him but can't understand why people have a problem with him today.

-Working with Jake The Snake: Paul Bearer loves Jake The Snake to death and accounts seeing him in horrible shape and was concerned for him dealing with past daemons however he has it on good terms Jake has recently left rehab courtesy of Vince McMahon and is doing "very good".

-Scheduling in the WWE: Paul Bearer tells us Vince McMahon made very little mistakes back then everything was carefully calculated and you knew a year in advance who you was working with, the upcoming angle and future feuds - Today that is just not possible.

Paul Bearer talks about Chris Benoit,Ric Flair's final match at Wrestlemania 24, the pressures of today's industry/Internet and a recent Smark incident at an Indy show and tons more! - download today!
