Contract signed, Loser Must Retire! Can O'Malley deliver on his promise?
Posted: Mar 11th 2008 By: mikeiles
On Saturday, March 15th the feud between John O'Malley and Brad Michaels will finally come to an end. To be more precise, one man's career is over. O'Malley has said that after this Saturday the only words he wants to hear out of Bad Brad's mouth is "Would you like fries with your order sir?". In other words, he expects Michaels will have to find a new line of work.
To start the IZW show this past weekend, IZW Commissioner Mike Iles presided over the official contract signing between Brad Michaels and John O'Malley. After the signing, IZW owner John Zorthos came to the ring and threw Michaels a tire iron, which he used to attack O'Malley. While Zorthos kept Iles at bay by thretening him with a chair, Michaels threw O'Malley through the table then revealed that O'Malley signed the contract for "March Mayhem" but in addition O'Malley would now have to face IZW Tag Team Champions The New Age Syndicate in a Handicap Match. In the Handicap Match, O'Malley fought valiantly but eventually lost to the tag team champions. O'Malley appeared angry, but make no mistake about it, "The Juggernaut" will be ready for Bad Brad Michaels.
Let's take a career retrospective at the two combatants shall we?
Brad Michaels began his career in 1999. He is a two time former IZW Impact Division Champion, a 2 time IZW Tag Team Champion, and has also won titles in MSWA and well as feds in Texas. He has wrestled primarily in Oklahoma in recent years but has experience in Arkansas, Kansas, and Texas. He is the CEO of The Old School Assassins and is currently a member of Impact, Inc. He was also ranked in the PWI 500 in 2002 coming in at #433. In the Oklafan Top 50, he has been ranked #23 in 2007, #34 in 2006, and #20 in 2005. He was also voted the Most Hated Wrestler in Oklahoma for 2007 according to Oklafan readers. He finishing move is the dreaded Piledriver and while it has been banned from IZW recently, the ban will be lifted for the final Michaels-O'Malley match. While O'Malley outweighs him by at least 100 pounds, the quickness of Michaels should come into play.
John O'Malley began his career in 2001 and ironically was brought into the business by Brad Michaels. He is also a former member of The Old School Assassins. He is the only wrestler to have held all the IZW singles titles (Heavyweight, Cruiserweight, Impact Division and 2 time Hardcore). He has held titles in ACW, MSWA, NWA-OK, NWA-U, and SRPW. He has also wrestled in Texas, Arkansas, and Missouri. He holds the distiction of being the first #1 ranked wrestler in the Oklafan Top 50 grabbing that spot in 2005, the first year Oklafan ran that rankings. The following years he was ranked #3 in 2006, and #20 in 2007. He also broke into the Indywarz.com Top 100 Wrestlers in Texas ranking #99 in 2006 and #93 in 2007. He was injured in October 2007 at the hands of Brad Michaels and was told by doctors to retire. He finally got medical clearance to wrestle and returned to IZW at "Chaotic Christmas on December 22nd and has been after Michaels since his return.
It all ends for one of these great wrestlers this Saturday at The Impact Arena at "March Mayhem". Wrestling in Oklahoma will be changed forever.
Other News & Notes from the IZW show:
Kenny Campbell was scheduled to defend the Impact Division Title this past Saturday but refused to do so even after ring announcer Jesse Storm announced the match as a title match. After losing to Dustin Heritage, he attacked Heritage and left the ring in disgust. Later in the evening a video was shown on the ZorthoTron 420 with Kenny leaving the arena before being stopped by IZW Commissioner Mike Iles. The commish asked where Kenny was headed and he said he wrestled so he was leaving. Iles told Campbell that because he failed to put the title on the line and has not been defending the title regularly, he will be putting the belt on the line at "March Mayhem" against Dustin Heritage and if he didn't, he would be stripped for failure to defend within 30 days.
Before his scheduled match with Nathan Sensation, John Zorthos came out to address the crowd and said he changed the stipulations of his "March Mayhem" match with Mitch Carter. The match is now a Ladder Match and hanging above the ring would be an IZW contract. Whoever retrieves the briefcase and the contract wins the match. After Zorthos finished his rant, IZW Commissioner Mike Iles came out and said that the tape footage of Impact, Inc.'s attack on Bernie Donderwitz and Zorthos' attack on Iles from last week as well as the tape footage of the attack on Iles orchestrated by Zorthos a few weeks ago has mysteriously disappeared. But Iles said that Zorthos needs to know that as soon as the information is gathered, legal proceedings will begin regarding the attacks.
After Zorthos defeated Sensation, The New Age Syndicate hit the ring and attacked Sensation. They then called for O'Malley and the Handicap Match began. Sensation was sore when he left the ringside area but said he and Striker will be ready for NAS at "March Mayhem".
The first match after intermission featured Tyson Jaymes. When it came time for his opponent, Commissioner Iles came out again and said that Tyson's opponent had travel problems and could not make it to the show. He then said that he found Jaymes an opponent and brought out Shawn Sanders of the New Age Syndicate. Sanders refused to wrestle because he had already wrestled in the Handicap Match. Iles said that he realized that NAS was busy and needed to get back to tape a new episode of "The Suite Life of Zack & Cody" or "Doublemint Gum" commercials. He then referred to them as Skull & 8-Ball and said if Shawn didn't wrestle he would strip them of the tag team titles and suspend them. Shawn reluctantly took the match then the commish banned his brother Scott from ringside. Tyson picked up the victory much to the fans delight.
Earlier in the evening a video was show with John Zorthos and Brad Michaels attacking Angel Williams with the same tire iron used on John O'Malley earlier in the evening. Williams and Michaels met in the main event and Williams was heavily bandaged. As Williams was about to finish Michaels, the theme music for IZW Heavyweight Champion Tommy Revell started which distracted Williams. Revell never came through the curtain, but it was enough for Michaels to gain the advantage. One springboard DDT later, Michaels picked up the victory. No word as to how severe Angel's ribs were injured nor his status for this Saturday's title match.
"March Mayhem" is shaping up to be the biggest show for IZW this year. Limited tickets still remain. Admission is still just $5, the best value for your wrestling dollar. Get there early as all seats are general admission. Doors open at 6pm with a 7pm belltime. IZW is all the rage. Take my sage advice and check it out!
