What a difference a year makes

What a difference a year makes

Posted: Oct 24th 2007 By: mikeiles

With The Texas Outlaws (Bobby Burns & Dan Wilder) winning the SECW Tag Team Titles this past weekend in Antlers at the inaugural South East Championship Wrestling event, they are now champions in two different federations.

A little over a year ago, we here at Oklafan made mention to wrestlers holding multiple titles. At that time, there were nine wrestlers that held at least two titles. What a difference a year makes.

Let's look at last year's "golden nine":

Glen Steel was the AACW Heavyweight Champion and 1/2 of the MSWA Mid-South Tag Team Champions with Bad Boy. Due to injury and a family tragedy, Steel has not wrestled since April of this year. He lost the AACW Heavyweight Title to Mustafa Sharmoot in November 2006 and was replaced by Outlaw as co-holder of the MSWA Mid-South Tag Team Titles. No word as to if and when Steel might return to the ring.

John O'Malley at the time was IZW Cruiserweight Champion, Total Texas Wrestling Heavyweight Champion, and Asylum Champion Wrestling (based in Colorado). O'Malley recently announced his retirement after a career ending injury at the hands of long time rival and former friend Brad Michaels. He vacated the IZW Cruiswerweight Title in late 2006, Total Texas Wrestling is no longer running shows, and Asylum Championship Wrestling announced O'Malley had been stripped of their Heavyweight Title a few weeks before his injury and retirement. At the time of his retirement, O'Malley held the IZW Impact Division Title. He still stands as the only wrestling in IZW history to hold all IZW singles titles at least once (Heavyweight, Cruiserweight, Impact Division, & Hardcore).

Mace held 1/2 of the IZW Tag Team Titles, 1/2 of the Championship Wrestling Productions Texas Tag Team Titles (based in Texas), 1/2 of the Christian Wrestling Alliance Tag Team Titles (based in Texas), and 1/2 of Asylum Championship Wrestling (based in Colorado). Mace announced his retirement earlier this year in hopes of becoming a police officer.

Michael Barry was All-Star Wrestling Heavyweight Champion (based in Missouri & Kansas) and had just won the IZW Heavyweight Title. His IZW Title reign just passed the one year mark. He lost the All-Star Wrestling Heavyweight Title in a Title Unification Match to Kevin Lovejones in November of 2006.

The Prophet held the AACW Television Title and the CXW Heavyweight Title. AACW renamed the Television Title the Internet Title, then announced it as vacant, and CXW shut down after one show. Prophet has not wrestled in Oklahoma since June of this year when he lost the SWCW Sooner Xtreme Title to Luc Lapointe.

Rocco Valentino at the time held the ComPro Heavyweight Title and the NWA Oklahoma Heavyweight Title. Valentino ended his storied career when he was forced into retirement by losing a match to Brent Albright at the last NWA Universal show in May of this year.

Ryan Davidson held the IZW Impact Division Title and the MSWA Mid-South Heavyweight Title. Ryan recently relocated to Texas. We haven't seen his name appear on any Texas fed's results so we don't know if he is wrestling down there or not.

Seth Shai held 1/2 of the IZW Tag Team Titles, 1/2 of the Championship Wrestling Productions Texas Tag Team Titles (based in Texas), the Championship Wrestling Productions United States Heavyweight Title (based in Texas), and 1/2 of the Asylum Championship Wrestling Tag team Titles (based in Colorado). Shai is now wrestling in singles matches more since his long time tag team partner Mace retired.

Spoiler 2000 held the American Championship Wrestling Heavyweight Title (based in Texas) and the Texas Professional Wrestling Alliance Heavyweight Title (based in Texas). He is currently working regularly for Professional Championship Wrestling Uncut based in Arlington, TX.

So, nine wrestlers this time last year. How many this year?

Four.

Outlaw is 1/2 of the MSWA Mid-South Tag Team Champions along with Bad Boy and recently won the MSWA Oklahoma Heavyweight Title as well.

Beau Dalton is 1/2 of the SWCW Tag Team Champions along with Luc Lapointe and is also the SWCW Sooner Xtreme Champion.

The Texas Outlaws (Bobby Burns & Dan Wilder) won the SECW Tag Team Titles this past weekend and also hold the New Xtreme Championship Wrestling Alliance Tag Team Titles (based in Texas).

Like we said...what a difference a year makes.
