Trouble In Texas!

Trouble In Texas!

Posted: Oct 3rd 2007 By: CMBurnham

From December of 2006 until the middle of September, 2007, Texas, Inc. had a great 9 months. They won 3 tag team titles in 3 orginisations and became recognised by most as the greatest tag team in Oklahoma pro wrestling today. As everyone knows, though, the only place to go when you're on top is down. And it seems like Bernard Funk, Tim Rockwell and their manager Stevie Caballero may be plummeting a lot faster than anyone imagined as seeds of dissention appeared during the ComPro show last Saturday.

While Texas, Inc. never lost their NWA-U Universal Tag Team Titles (the company simply shut down), they were beaten for the ComPro tag team titles by Sudden Impact on September 15. In that match, Stevie Caballero supposedly suffered a wrist injury while he was handcuffed to the ring rope and when he appeared on September 22, he was sporting a wrist brace, which he tried to use as a foreign object in the match between Rockwell and Sudden Impact 2. But while Rockwell held SI2 for Stevie to hit, SI2 ducked and Stevie knocked his own man out, allowing Sudden Impact to rack up another victory over a member of Texas, Inc.

If that had been a one time occurrence, no one would have thought anything about it. But history repeated itself (sort of) the following week when Bernard Funk opened the ComPro card against FCW Tag Team Champion Romero Contreras. Contreras faced his stiffest challenge yet as the former OPW Oklahoma Champion took him to the limit. Stevie was caught by surprise that his man was in the opener and didn't arrive until halfway through the match, still sporting the brace. Things looked good for a moment for Texas as Bernard had Romero on the ropes and Stevie prepared to hit "The Franchise" with the brace. But while Stevie was bragging to the crowd, Romero revcovered and put Bernie in his place, resulting in Stevie once again knocking out his own man and allowing the Romero to remain undefeated in ComPro this year.

When Texas, Inc. appeared next, Bernard was insistant that Stevie take off the brace and give it to him so there would be no "accidents" during Tim Rockwell's match against El Super Colibri. And that match was even for quite a while. But towards the end, Stevie decided that Rockwell wasn't going to get the job done himself and asked Bernard for the Texas Bullrope. Funk, knowing what had happened the last 2 times the rope had been thrown in the ring, refused to hand it over the 2 ended up in a tug of war which ended when the rope slipped from their hands into Rockwell's forehead as he tried to break up the disagreement. A quick 3 count and Texas was again on the losing end of things.

At this point, the emotions almost got the better of Funk & Rockwell and the crowd was certainly encouraging them to beat up Stevie. While Stevie cowered in the ring, fearful that he would soon be needing much more than a wrist brace, Funk & Rockwell appeared to be ready to give the fans what they desperately wanted. But instead, both men simply walked away from Stevie, who seemed quite relieved that nothing physical had occurred.

But as if enough bad news hadn't come to this threesome, when the show was over, Stevie received word that, due to their non-appearance at the SWCW show in Oklahoma City that night, SWCW Commissioner Mike Iles stripped Texas, Inc. of the tag team titles and awarded them to his stablemates Luc Lapointe and SWCW Sooner Xtreme Champion Beau Dalton. And thus the last championship gold in Texas' possession was taken away from them after a 7 month reign.

Could Texas, Inc. be seperating from Stevie Caballero? He wasn't there when the group was formed and they did win the NWA-U Tag Team Titles without his presence. They also had successful appearances in UWF06 & AACW on their own. But since putting Stevie in their corner, Texas seems to have upped their game. Is it all a series of unfortunate mistakes? There are some fans who believe that Stevie is done with Texas and is intentionally trying to cause them to lose. Whatever the actual case may be, if these 3 men don't solve their problems soon, the 2006 Oklafan Tag Team of the Year will be a distant memory before the end of this year.
