Oklahoma Cosplayers Interview With Tuck Davion

Oklahoma Cosplayers Interview With Tuck Davion

Posted: Aug 14th 2016 By: Oklahoma Cosplayers

1.What was your first cosplay and what inspired you to begin?

Indiana Jones. I didn't initially start out wanting to cosplay the character or cosplay at all; the whole thing began when I first thought to myself: "I'd like to own a hat like Indy's" after a great deal of time spent admiring the character and the spirit of adventure he embodied in the then 3 films. That's all I originally wanted. I started out with the kind you could buy at Disneyland, but found it lacking in screen accuracy (I was a detail hound already!). My research led me to a community called Indy Gear, and from there, I was (after some time and many different hats) able to find a haberdasher that produced a screen accurate hat that would work for me, the Adventurebilt "Fortune and Glory" fedora. Then, I wanted the jacket. After that, I was officially bitten by the "gear bug", and decided I wanted to acquire the whole outfit.

2.Is there a cosplay artist you look up to, why?

One of my favorite cosplayers is Kelldar. She always rocks her costumes better than anyone I've seen doing similar outfits, and her work is impeccable, especially as Padme Amidala. Another is LTC America, as her tenacity and character embody Captain America so well. For a male cosplayer, I greatly enjoy seeing Zen Dragon, who is pretty much the real life Tony Stark, in my opinion.

3. What is you advice for someone who is wanting to get into cosplay?

Find a character you like that you identify with on some level. Don't be afraid to experiment, obsess, or fail. Always be looking for ways you could have done something better (if and when possible), and most importantly, remember that cosplay is for everyone. The best tip to have a cosplay body is to put a cosplay on your body. 🙂

4. How do you prepare for conventions?

I make a list of what I plan to wear. I use the con schedule guide to plan where I am going to be and what I'll be doing there. I carry reasonably healthy snacks (non-candy trail mix, slim jims, or cheese and crackers are my old favorites to bring for quick carbs and protein/fats, but lately Oscar Meyer's P3 protein packs have been amazing con energy snacks). I enter the con well hydrated. I bring arch supports for my shoes. I stretch beforehand by doing DDP Yoga. I make sure I have all my paperwork in order, insofar as photo ops, tickets, etc.

5. What if you favorite thing to do after a convention?

Go out with the friends I either have or have made at the con and eat whatever I darn well please, because that's cut loose time for me, nutritionally. I eat to maintain a healthy and fit lifestyle 90% of the time, and those post-con cheat meals are something I love to do. I actively look forward to it each time.

6. Pick on of the following super powers and explain why you picked it and how it would be useful
The power to be invisible when no one is looking at you.
The power to walk through walls but always fall through floors.
The power to turn gold into silver.
The power to teleport 3 or 4 feet once a month.
or The power to have hiccup at will, but not being able to stop it at will.

I would choose to be able to teleport 3 or 4 feet once per month. I chose that because out of all the other options, it seems like it could possibly have the most real-world application. "Once a month" also makes no distinction between 11:59 pm July 31st and 12:00 am August 1st. So there seems like potential to do it in rapid succession 2 times in a 60 day period if I played my cards right. 2 times back to back is enough to do almost anything I could possibly use it for, and as such, that seems to be the best out of all the choices.
