Interview with Brian Lakewood

Interview with Brian Lakewood

CM: For those not familiar, tell us a little about how you go into the pro wrestling business.

BL: I got into wrestling as a fan in 1992, while I was confined to a bed for about seven days from a severely broken leg. At that time, I began to realize it was something I'd like to do one day after college football, of course. I began my training in 1996, while in college. During off-season football, I would drive home four hours from Kansas on the weekends to train and I would also train during the Summer. I was trained by The Original Renegade, Chief Red Eagle, Great Bolo, and Devlin Blanchard. My training partner was some guy named Rocco Valentino, I believe. Anyways, we trained hard and got the crap beat out of us for several months and then we finally were given the title: "professional wrestler". I was a starter in college, from 1996-1999, so at that time, I took a leave of absence from the wrestling scene until after college, in which I graduated in May, 1999. My first, official match was January 1st, 2000 in OPW, which I lost to that Rocco guy who pulled my tights for the pin.

CM: You've accomplished quite a lot in your career. What stands out to you as some of your biggest accomplishments?

BL: You know, winning the Oklahoma Heavyweight championship for the first time was a pretty awesome achievement and of course winning the tag team belts with two different tag team partners, who were also two of my best fiends was pretty cool too. And, then, winning the Heavyweight Title again back in October of 2012 was nice because I had only wrestled once or twice in a few years prior to that. I was also honored to be inducted into the TPW hall of fame.

CM: You were part of two very successful tag teams, one with Brandon Groom, another with Butch Dalton. Do you plan on reforming either of those teams, since both men will also be in attendance at this event?

BL: At this time, I'm not sure what my plan is for the Bartlesville Brawl this Friday, except to wrestle and entertain the fans once again. And, have a little fun, of course

CM: What is it that still makes Brian Lakewood want to compete in the ring?

BL: I truly believe the fans are what really makes me want to compete still and I always like to test my skills against just about anybody, whether they're seasoned vets like myself or the younger, up, and coming stars of today. It's always nice to go out and put on great show for the fans, regardless. It is also nice to prove to people that I still have it, of course.

CM: Any final words for the fans before the event?

BL: Hope to see everybody there on Friday and remember; Lakewood is Good, baby!! Woooooo!!!!!
