Interview with Max McGuirk

Interview with Max McGuirk

Posted: Mar 24th 2014 By: CMBurnham

CM: You are the son of a former WWE Ring Announcer and the grandson of a former wrestling promoter here in Oklahoma. What was it like growing up in a wrestling family?

MM: It was a blast growing up with all of the wrestlers when I was a kid. They were basically my family; aunt Sherri Martel and uncle Owen hart. It was the best growing up for a kid who loved wrestling. Always in a different city with the coolest guys in the world.

CM: You spent about a year in NXT, (WWE's developmental territory). What were some of the most important things you learned down there?

MM: I learned in NXT that in order to get better that you must always wrestle with someone better than you. I learned of the tough road schedule that we all had to work every week and the dedication it takes to have the perfect body. I also learned about the terrible pain and injuries that follow with wrestling full time. My time down there made me a much more creative and bright character in the ring and in life.

CM: Aside from the time in NXT, what would you say are the biggest accomplishments in this business?

MM: I feel that the most important thing for me was my mom getting to see me wrestle for in Miami last week. It was a big deal to me because many of the guys that I worked with in NXT were there and it was a special honor to be asked to fly into Miami for a special show with some amazing wrestlers. My mom was in attendance and it was really neat for her to see me captivate a crowd the way I had watched her do as a young kid. It was also a really exciting thing for me to be picked as a finalist for the Tough Enough TV show 3 years ago. I was flown out to Los Angeles and put up in a hotel for a month. They paid me and took me and the other finalists all over southern California. I never made the show but made it much further than many other wrestlers. It was an amazing experience and something that would have never come around if I had not been a wrestler.

CM: Describe the in-ring style of Max McGuirk.

MM: Max McGuirk is a high action high flying crowd favorite. I bring a solid integrity to the craft of professional wrestling because I look the part and have been very well trained. If you haven't seen me wrestle, you're in for a show. You will get more than your money's worth watching my match. Nobody in the Midwest is doing what Max McGuirk can do in the ring.

CM: You and Justin Lee were tag team partners and champions in so many federations in Oklahoma. Now, you have the opportunity to face him one-on-one. How important is this match for you?

MM: Justin Lee and I have been best friends before I left to Tampa and everyday since I've been back home. The guy can freaking work. We had some matches when I came back from Florida and I enjoyed wrestling against him because he brought the best out of me. We ended up tagging together and becoming super successful because our style Is very similar. I have the chance to face him this Friday and it is very important to me because I have made Bartlesville my home for the past 4 years. I have a solid fan base here and I know that I have tools to take care of business. The only problem is that Justin knows my every move and the fact that he is one of the best wrestlers in the state. I have my work cut out for me this Friday. Win or lose, you're in for a treat win we square off against each other.

CM: Any final words for your fans and students before this Friday?

MM: Friday night March 28th Bartlesville Brawl at the Youth Canteen. Be there or miss the biggest wrestling show to hit Washington County in twenty years. The Bartlesville Phenom Max McGuirk will not step out of the ring without first having his hand raised in victory!!!!
