Ross: Flair should main event WM XXIV
Posted: Mar 20th 2008 By: mikeiles
With just more than one week until WrestleMania XXIV in Orlando, here's Week 8 of JAWBreaker's exclusive question and answer session with WWE announcer Jim Ross.
Question: There are four potential main events for WM 24. For possible historical reasons, many fans think Ric Flair-HBK should wrap up WM 24. Others say the Raw triple-threat title match is a no-brainer main event. Others say to respect the streaks and put Undertaker-Edge on last. And even others suggest Big Show-Floyd Mayweather should be the finale for its unpredictability. What's Jim Ross' main event for WM 24, and why? And, why aren't the other three matches your main event?
Answer: "Lots of damned if you do and damned if you don't here. One way to quasi appease the talents in the title bouts is to put neither bout on last. Show vs. Mayweather is such a potential train wreck and could evolve into one of the biggest incidents in WrestleMania history that closing with it would scare me. The potential, historical implications of the Flair-HBK match are endless. Win or lose, this is probably wrestler Ric Flair's last WrestleMania. To me, on a personal level, this distinct possibility overshadows any title contest for this event and should close the show. No match on the card will carry with it the emotion of Flair-Michaels, and that is what the product has always been about -- selling emotion."
Question: Talk a little bit about these WM 24 celebs -- Kim Kardashian (guest hostess), Snoop Dogg (master of ceremonies), John Legend ("America the Beautiful").
Answer: "Kardashian is the reality TV star (isn't everyone) with the big derriere who somewhat "backed into" the event. Snoop Dogg is a cultural icon who is one cool dude, a regular guy with kids who genuinely likes the product and is a Steelers fan -- which makes Mrs. J.R. happy. I'm just hoping I get an invite to join Snoop on his bus before the show. Legend is cooler than the other side of the pillow and will most likely leave with several cell numbers of some of the WWE Divas. What's the over/under Legend blows the Queen of Soul away with his rendition of "American the Beautiful?"
Question: The popularity of wrestling outside the U.S. is off the charts. What are the chances of WrestleMania being overseas one day?
Answer: "Absolutely, and it should. I can see a Global WrestleMania in a huge stadium some day -- most likely in the UK for starters."
Question: Any plans to go see Lita's punk band the Luchagors on their Florida swing around WM 24 week?
Answer: "Do they cover any ZZ Top or Eagles tunes, and can you score me two freebies?"
Question: Yahoo sport buzz ranks searches Internet users do. On several occasions in the last few weeks, it's had "Maria" ranked twice. Does WWE's Diva have a twin we don't know about?
Answer: "We should all be so lucky, especially the amorous King. But, unfortunately, no twin. But, Maria does have a gorgeous little sis."
Question: Will Jesse Ventura get your vote for President?
Answer: "I would likely vote for 'The Body' because he can't be a bigger buffoon than many of the professional politicos that are currently running. However, do you think Jesse is really gonna want to leave his Mexican beach paradise where he is financially set, wear shoes and socks, shave on a regular basis, pull his dark suits out of storage and refrain from experiencing any aspects of an herbal lifestyle to move to D.C. for four years, become an assassination target and surround himself by sycophants and liars?"
