Mid South Wrestling
Mid-South Wrestling dominated the Oklahoma wrestling scene from 1979 through 1986. Continuing the tradition begun by Leroy McGuirk and Tri-State Wrestling, Bill Watts promoted shows in Oklahoma, Texas, & Louisiana, plus other regional areas. Mid-South began national exposure of many future superstars of the WWE and WCW, including Ted DiBiase, "Dr. Death" Steve Williams, Hacksaw Jim Duggan, The Junkyard Dog, Jake "The Snake" Roberts, Magnum T. A., The Rock-N-Roll Express, The Midnight Express & Jim Cornette, Terry Taylor, & Jim Ross. Bill Watts' style has been called by many a precursor to the "Extreme" wrestling that became popular in the mid-to-late '90s and, in an attempt to keep up with the WWF, he transformed Mid-South into the Universal Wrestling Federation in 1986.
