NEWS
Pro Wrestling Illustrated released its Top 500 for 2017 and coming in at #1 was Kazuchika Okada. It marked the first time in PWI 500 history that a wrestler that wrestles primarily in Japan was ranked #1. The issue is on sale now in both print and digital editions at PWI-Online.com and should be on newsstands soon. Others of note that were ranked include:

2. A. J. Styles
4. Roman Reigns (son of Sika)
13. Randy Orton (son of Bob Orton, Jr.)
15. Bray Wyatt (nephew of Barry Windham)
30. Jinder Mahal
33. Cody Rhodes (son of Dusty Rhodes)
37. Alberto El Patron (nephew of Mil Mascaras)
79. The Big Show (attended Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa)
83. Jey Uso (son of Rikishi)
86. Jimmy Uso (son of Rikishi)
95. Magnus (husband of Mickie James)
117. Ray Rowe
151. Davey Boy Smith, Jr. (nephew of Jim Neidhart)
159. Tim Storm
161. Adam Thornstowe
165. Goldust (son of Dusty Rhodes)
176. Matt Sydal (brother of Mike Sydal)
177. Matt Riviera
185. Bo Dallas (nephew of Barry Windham)
246. Jack Swagger
354. Lance Archer
375. Sammy Guevara
380. Barrett Brown
472. Tyler Bateman
498. Kikutaro

Eight WWE Superstars occupy the Pro Wrestling Illustrated top 10 chart in the PWI 500 list, a list compiled every year ranking the top 500 wrestlers in the world. This year, the list was topped by NJPW’s Kazuchika Okada. Following him were AJ Styles in #2, Kevin Owens in #3, Roman Reigns in #4, Shinsuke Nakamura in #6, Dean Ambrose in #7, Samoa Joe in #8, Bobby Roode in #9, and The Miz in #10. The other non-WWE Superstars on the list is Kenny Omega who came in #5. Last year it was Roman Reigns who was #1 followed by Okada. This was the first time in a long time that John Cena didn’t crack the top 10 list.

Once John Cena is finished filming the “Bumblebee” movie, and can return to WWE TV, the company has plans for Cena to return to WWE SmackDown and defeat Jinder Mahal for the WWE Championship. This is yet another reason why Cena vs. Roman Reigns is taking place at "No Mercy", as long term plans do not call for Cena to return to RAW after his movie.

The explanation, not that one will do, regarding Sexy Star and her actions against Rosemary at AAA's "TripleMania" this past weekend is that the claim is Lady Shani shot on her from prior heat and both were hitting each other hard. Hamada started getting rough with her as well. She thought all three were after her and she put Rosemary in the armbar and ended up popping her elbow by doing a shoot armbar. One version of the story is she did apologize after, but Jeff Jarrett was furious and quite frankly, tons of people in wrestling were and there's no real excuse for what happened. Jarrett yelled at Vampiro backstage in the dressing room and was furious with Sexy Star. The situation was legit, and Rosemary may have more serious injuries.

Global Force Wrestling is trying to capitalize on the Rosemary/Sexy Star incident and will be addressing it this Thursday on Impact. “This Thursday night we go back to Mexico and TripleMania for what everyone is talking about. Rosemary was in action and the situation exploded,” read the preview on YouTube. The teaser shows a small part of the match and sit-down interview clips with Jeremy Borash, who says “I knew something was wrong,” and Jeff Jarrett, who admitted that the situation backstage “got tense.” Quick cuts of stuff that happened backstage is also seen with Jarrett seemingly getting into a scuffle.

On August 29th, Ric Flair made his first comment since his recent health problems began. He posted on Twitter "Sometimes you have to get knocked down lower than you have ever been, to stand up taller than you ever were. Naitch WILL be back!"

Al Snow became the latest wrestling personality to publish his biography through ECW Press. Titled Self-Help: Life Lessons from the Bizarre Wrestling Career of Al Snow, the book will be published in April 2019 in collaboration with Ross Owen Williams. In his biography, Snow will be telling the story of his life, combining the highlights of his career with stories from the road that have given Al pause. Planned chapter titles include “How (Not) to Train Dogs,” “How to Get into Films. . . with the Mob,” and “How to Transport Naked Little People in a Big People Mover.” Snow said it’s an honor for him to be able to share his journey and see it all in a book. “What I’m particularly excited about is the fact that ECW Press, Ross, and I have all agreed to take a slightly different slant than other wrestling autobiographies. Naturally, we will revisit all the notable moments in my career, but we want the book to cover more than what I did in front of the cameras. There are so many stories from the road – things that only seem to happen to me – that have made me who I am today. I’ve always considered every new situation as a potential learning experience and this book will give me the opportunity to share that, for better or for worse,” he said. Michael Holmes, Executive Editor for ECW Press, described Snow’s book as a “special and important addition to our growing catalogue of wrestling titles.” Al Snow was recently employed by Global Force Wrestling but has since departed from his position with the company.

Raja Sherrgill of SLAM! Wrestling wrote a story entitled "A millennial's appreciation for Ric Flair" which you can read by clicking here.

Cold Blooded Chris recently suffered a torn patella. Oklafan wishes him a speedy recovery.

Oklafan extends condolences to Dusty Gold, whose grandmother passed away on August 31st.

Oklafan extends condolences to the family of Lord Littlebrook, whose son Bobby passed away on September 2nd. Bobby himself was a wrestler as well making 6 documented appearances in Oklahoma: 4 with Half Pint Brawlers (all against his brother Little Kato; all in Oklahoma City), and 2 with MWA (1 vs. Kato and 1 against Li'l American Bulldog; both in Spavinaw). In fact, Bobby would sometimes bring his father's Midget World Champion title to the ring with him, although there is no documented information stating he was ever recognized as the Midget World Champion. Littlebrook himself passed away in early September of 2016.

Oklafan extends condolences to the family and friends of Trey Garcia, who was killed in a car accident in Ohio on August 28th at the age of 41. While Trey never worked for a wrestling fed, he was a big fan of the sport. He also had his own blog entitled "Breaking Treyfabe" in which he would recap the show he attended from a fan's point of view. Some of those blogs were also posted on Oklafan as well. He never picked a favorite wrestling fed per se, but he was very vocal about Oklafan's omission of Elote. After leaving Tulsa, he relocated to Pittsburgh, PA and began following the local wrestling scene there and continuing to write his blog. After his passing, several people involved in pro wrestling expressed their condolences on his Facebook page. One post came from Pennsylvania based wrestling company International Wrestling Cartel. They said they never saw him merely as a fan and they felt they had lost a member of their family.
