NEWS
WWE officials have been planning a movie project on WWE Hall of Famer Mae Young, which is one of the reasons they are branding her so heavily as the pioneer of women in wrestling with the upcoming Mae Young Classic tournament. The movie would then establish Mae as the Babe Ruth of women’s wrestling.

Jim Ross and Lita will be doing the commentary for the "Mae Young Classic", a 32 women tournament on the WWE Network which kicks off in late August. Jim Ross returned on WWE books at WrestleMania, calling The Undertaker’s last match and then tasked with doing commentary for the WWE UK Championship Live along with Nigel McGuinness. He was then also invited back to call the WWE UK title match with McGuinness at "NXT Takeover: Chicago". Lita’s involvement will mark her first gig with the company since she was released from her deal back in December of last year. Lita was a producer/agent backstage as well as appearing on the RAW, SmackDown, and pay-per-view pre-shows. The "Mae Young Classic" tournament will start on the WWE Network on Monday, August 28th with the first four episodes available on-demand. Episodes five through eight will be available on-demand starting Monday, September 4th. The final tournament match will stream live from Las Vegas, NV on Tuesday, September 12th at 10pm Eastern (9pm Central).

WWE.com posted an article about first-time matches that John Cena could have as a "free agent." Roman Reigns, Samoa Joe, Finn Balor, Shinsuke Nakamura, Braun Strowman, and Jinder Mahal were all mentioned.

Tyson Kidd is currently working backstage as a producer on "SmackDown Live" and will return to "Total Divas" next season. Kidd has not wrestled since 2015 when he suffered a broken neck. He is the husband of current WWE superstar Natalya and the son-in-law of Jim Neidhart.

Impact Wrestling has officially acquired Jeff Jarrett’s Global Force Wrestling promotion. The Tennessean reported today that Impact is re-branding as GFW. The Tennessean reports that the acquisition is designed to distance the company from the financial struggles and legal drama that has followed the brand. The story is that Impact parent company Anthem Sports will re-brand as GFW and Jarrett will take over the creative aspects of the promotion. The Thursday night show on POP TV will continue to be called "Impact". Sunday’s "Slammiversary" event was seen as the re-launch of the company’s pay-per-view business. GFW will be headquartered at Skyway Studios in Nashville, TN where they currently do pre and post-production work. Jarrett commented on the re-branding by saying “We’re a global brand. We have partnerships in Mexico, Japan, other places. Collectively coming together, we’ve combined forces and basically the rebrand final touches happen (on Sunday) at ‘Slammiversary.'” Anthem’s Ed Nordholm told The Tennessean that the company is developing an on-demand streaming service to tap into the valuable tape library they have. Nordholm also said the re-branding was done for two reasons – the double meaning of “TNA” was a turnoff for some potential marketing partners and the name was tainted because of negative media coverage. He said “When Anthem got involved we saw a rare opportunity to get involved with an asset that already had global distribution. It’s a 3,500-hour library, broadcast in 120 countries, existing distribution contracts in India, Africa and now the United Kingdom. The timeline to take a ground zero promotion to that kind of penetration was 15 years. The work now is to fix some things.”

Global Force Wrestling has gone from a company that never existed on television to taking over the legacy of TNA and Impact Wrestling, and it’s all thanks to the genius of Jeff Jarrett. The company was founded in 2014 by Jeff Jarrett and his wife Karen and despite not having any television deal anywhere in the world, 24 live events and even television tapings were held in hopes of selling a pilot show to a network. In 2015, Jarrett made a surprise return to TNA and represented Global Force Wrestling in an angle that led to TNA vs. GFW. In reality, it was Jarrett who sold his remaining TNA shares and in return he got several free advertising for his GFW brand which at that point still had no deal. After the angle wrapped up, Jarrett once again vanished from TNA television. The move to get Jeff Jarrett back at Impact started immediately after Anthem Sports & Entertainment Corp. took over the company from Dixie Carter and Panda Energy. Anthem president Ed Nordholm told The Tennessean that he met Jarrett in a private room at a Nashville, TN restaurant Pinewood Social. “It started off as, ‘Will you talk to me and give me some perspective on the show?’ We had lunch, we chatted. We ended up with a good rapport.” After Jarrett returned to Impact earlier this year, the two companies “merged” and its titles started being defended on Impact Wrestling. Title unifications are set for this Sunday at "Slammiversary", including the GFW Global Championship in a match between Alberto Del Rio and Impact World champion Bobby Lashley.

Bruce Prichard recently spoke about never saying never about a WWE return. He said “You never say never. If you were to ask me that question today, I would say probably not, but you never say never in this business. I probably would’ve even said ‘I would never be back in TNA’ if you’d have asked me that question a year ago, so things change and what’s good today is bad tomorrow and vice versa, so you just never really know and go with the flow and be able to adapt.”

Ric Flair was on the latest edition of Complex's "Sneaker Shopping" series. Flair caught up with the crew at Stadium Goods In New York City to talk partying with Michael Jordan and his thoughts on LeBron James being the greatest athlete of all time.

Jim Cornette tweeted that he has raised over $1,000 for Crusade for Children through selling signed copies of the protective order that Vince Russo filed against him.

The National Wrasslin' League, run by Major Baisden, has changed its business plan. Originally the idea was to run every other Saturday night in Kansas City and every other Thursday night in St. Louis. St. Louis was moved from Thursday night to Sunday afternoon. Now, in August, St. Louis will run once a month. Kansas City will run every other Saturday but at two different locations, one show per month on the Kansas side and one on the Missouri side. The plan is to run 100 dates per year but move into new markets in Missouri (Joplin and Springfield), Iowa (Des Moines), Nebraska (Omaha), Kansas (Topeka and Salina) and Oklahoma (Tulsa). Their debut in Springfield, MO is August 12th.

Brian Blair announced the availability of a Killer Bees comic book. On Tuesday of last week, Chuck Singer announced his retirement from pro wrestling. He posted on Facebook "Good morning world. Its THE ICEMAN CHUCK SINGER. PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING...?? My C6&7 disc are budged out of my neck & my L4&5 in my lower back are smashed. The Doc say if I keep Wrestling I could end up with a broken neck are in a wheel chair....
