The Scoop

The Scoop

Posted: May 1st 2017 By: Oklafan Staff

NEWS
One independent wrestling promoter told the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Jack Swagger is looking to charge $4,000 for independent shows. The feeling is that number is too high for most independent promotions and the fact he isn’t a big name like past WWE stars.

When Jack Swagger was asked about his current his plans after his 90 day no compete clause with WWE expires, he said “I’m gonna be everywhere. As soon as I get out of this period…” When asked about possibly working with Impact Wrestling, he said “It would be awesome to work with Dirty Dutch Mantell again, good friend of mine. So we’ll just have to see. I’m in the process of lining up a calendar, and getting a lot of shows, I think I’m booked for the summer with shows. So I’m gonna be anywhere, you can see me in Australia, on Tommy Dreamer’s House of Hardcore tour.”

Jinder Mahal will get his WWE Title shot from Randy Orton at the May 21st Backlash pay-per-view in Rosemont, IL. There are still several weeks until the pay-per-view but it looks like Mahal may bring the title into the Allstate Arena with him as he stole the belt from Orton on last night’s SmackDown. WWE did an angle where Mahal and The Singh Brothers (The Bollywood Boyz) beat Orton down and ran away with the title.

Regarding Jinder Mahal’s current main event push on the SmackDown brand, the main reason for the push is WWE’s hope for growth in India. WWE has more social media followers from India than any other country and India is the #3 country for TV rights fees but they are not making a lot of money in the country right now. Like they’re planning on doing in China, WWE is hoping to cash in on their popularity in India. No word yet on if Jinder will defeat WWE Champion Randy Orton at Backlash next month but Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE officials are looking to get the stable with Mahal and The Singh Brothers (The Bollywood Boyz) up and running. There’s also potential for WWE NXT Superstars Jeet Rama and Kishan Raftar being put with Mahal and The Singh Brothers. As noted, WWE had The Singh Brothers, using their previous gimmicks, accompany Jeet to the ring for a dark match at last week’s tapings. It’s possible Jinder is just another bump in the road for Orton as original plans had Baron Corbin bringing his big top-heel push to the WWE Title chase.

Jerry Lawler confirmed on his latest “Dinner with The King” podcast that he will be working Monday’s post-RAW “RAW Talk” episode on the WWE Network. As noted, Lawler will also be working the WWE Payback Kickoff pre-show on Sunday. The WWE website notes that “RAW Talk” will air after Payback but apparently it won’t air until Monday. Lawler also revealed that he’s scheduled to interrupt Scott Steiner at Thursday’s Memphis Grizzlies vs. San Antonio Spurs NBA Playoffs game in Memphis, TN. Steiner is supposed to talk bad about Memphis, leading to Lawler coming out to defend the city. Lawler wasn’t sure if a physical altercation between the two will take place. Check out Lawler’s latest podcast at this link.

After RAW last week was a "Table for Three" special with Shawn Michaels, A. J. Styles and Kevin Nash. They talked about how the story of the Styles-Michaels match at "Royal Rumble" got started, which was basically Styles pushing for it, Vince asking, and then it didn't happen.

A new WWE Network collection on Hall of Famer Ric Flair will be uploaded today.

Ric Flair's finacée Wendy Barlow was in a car accident on April 26th. Flair posted on Twitter about the accident then later followed up with a tweet that she would be OK. She was Fifi the Maid in WCW when Flair was doing the "Flair for the Gold" talk show segments when he returned to WCW from WWF.

Ric Flair noted on Twitter that he’s unable to appear at a convention in San Francisco this Sunday due to the group that booked him. He posted the following “I am sorry to announce to all my fans that I will not be able to attend the Sports show in San Francisco this Sunday. Unfortunately this is the third time I have been cancelled by MAB Celebrity Services in the last 14 months. White Plains NYC, Pittsburgh, and now San Fran. Was looking forward to seeing my friends Ricky Steamboat, Hulk Hogan, Pete Rose and others. Just wanted to assure my fans that Ric Flair does not cancel. Note to self, Never work with MAB Celebrity Services again!”

Jim Ross unveiled the cover of his upcoming biography book Slobberknocker: My Life in Wrestling in a post on Twitter. The book will be published by Skyhorse Publishing and will be released in October of this year. It’s co-written by Paul O’Brien, an award-winning filmmaker and bestselling author from Wexford, Ireland. WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon wrote the foreword while fellow WWE Hall of Famer and personal friend Steve Austin wrote the afterword. JR said that he plans to make the book available on every platform possible and will also be narrating the whole book for an audio version.

PWInsider.com is reporting an heated verbal argument took place last weekend at the Impact Wrestling TV tapings at Universal Studios in Orlando, FL. According to reports, the “ugly argument” took place between Bob Ryder, Jeff Jarrett, and Karen Jarrett during the final day of TV tapings on Sunday, April 23rd. Multiple sources told PWInsider.com that it all started after Karen confronted Ryder, a longtime Impact executive, over something related to the booking of a hotel room. Karen reportedly left after “dressing down” Ryder, but Jeff came to Ryder and asked that he leave the tapings, and Ryder reportedly did so before completing his duties at the taping, but not before getting into another argument with Jeff while he was getting ready to leave. PWInsider went on to say some people believed Ryder had been fired, but they confirmed he was still with the company and working today at the promotion’s offices in Nashville. It is believed that all issues from the incident were worked out; some sources dismissed the incident as pressures of TV production, but others presented a conflicting argument, saying the scene was “as bad you can imagine.”

Scott Steiner showed up at the Impact Wrestling television tapings last week and will also be at the "Slammiversary" pay-per-view. Steiner has not worked for Impact since 2012, which was his second stint with the company. Steiner originally joined TNA in 2006 and stayed there for four years before leaving and returning again in 2011 where his second go in the company only lasted a year. Steiner had an ugly departure from TNA in 2012, publicly bashing Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff and making some nasty remarks about the two. Attorneys for the company eventually filed a legal complaint against him and Steiner countersued saying he was owed money. Steiner also filed a second lawsuit later in the year saying he was injured while wrestling Jeff Hardy who was said to be intoxicated at the time. Despite being one of the most recognizable names, Steiner only had one title reign in TNA, a run as a Tag Team Champion with Booker T.

Jerry Lawler's Hall of Fame Bar and Grille in Memphis, TN announced they would be doing an event on May 13th with a Memphis Hall of Fame induction ceremony featuring Jerry Lawler, Bill Dundee, The Gilbert Family, Koko B. Ware, Bobby Eaton, Jerry Calhoun, Jim Cornette, and Jimmy Hart with Brandon Baxter as the emcee. They just did an event over the weekend with Lance Russell & Dave Brown together.
