NEWS
Jinder Mahal earned a title shot from WWE Champion Randy Orton at the May 21st "Backlash" pay-per-view by winning the Six-Pack Challenge on last Tuesday’s SmackDown. Jinder, who won with an assist from The Bollywood Boyz, then cut a post-match promo about how Americans won’t accept diversity but they will accept him as WWE Champion. On "Talking Smack" with Mahal talking to Renee Young and Shane McMahon, he said he’s very confident about beating Orton for the title. He believes Orton knows he’s a threat. He goes on about being younger, faster and in better shape than Orton. Mahal says Orton has every reason to be nervous of him. Mahal said Orton is at the top of the mountain and there’s only one way to go from there. He ends it by saying Orton should be very worried because he’s like a hungry shark that just got a taste of blood for the first time. Mahal also referred to himself as the new “American Dream” and future WWE Champion.

When new #1 contender to the WWE Title Jinder Mahal faced Mojo Rawley on "WWE Smackdown Live" two weeks ago, it was Mahal’s first televised match on SmackDown since he faced El Torito on May 30, 2014. Mahal lost that match. Mahal’s match last Tuesday night was his first televised victory on SmackDown since October 9, 2012, when he teamed with 3MB team member Heath Slater to defeat Santino Marella & Zack Ryder.

On his podcast, Dave Meltzer said if Rusev were not injured it could have possibly been Rusev and not Jinder Mahal facing Randy Orton at "Backlash". Corbin is being built to be a top heel on SmackDown but officials didn’t want him in a title match yet and A. J. Styles and Kevin Owens are being kept out of the title picture until bigger events. With the lack of heel depth Mahal got the rub.

Its being reported by CageSideSeats that WWE officials are still planning for Randy Orton vs. A. J. Styles to be a huge feud for SmackDown over the summer. Everything that is happening now with Jinder Mahal, Styles in the US Title hunt, and the rest is all just a holdover until their feud begins. The WWE Universe is anxiously awaiting Styles vs. Orton, but it seems the fans will need to wait a couple more months because WWE officials are likely saving their match for SummerSlam.

Last Tuesday’s "WWE SmackDown Live", featuring a Six-Pack Challenge to crown a new #1 contender to WWE Champion Randy Orton and Baron Corbin vs. A. J. Styles in the main event, drew 2.544 million viewers. This is down from the previous week’s 3.105 million viewers for the “Superstar Shakeup” episode, which was the best SmackDown number for 2017 and the best number going back to the 2016 Draft episode. SmackDown was #6 in viewership on cable for the night, behind two NBA Playoff games, "Special Report", "Tucker Carlson" and "The O’Reilly Factor". SmackDown was #3 in the 18-49 demographic, behind the NBA games. In comparison, Monday’s RAW drew 3.346 million viewers, down from last week’s 3.429 million viewers.

Jeff Jarrett, Ed Norholm, & Moose were there representing Impact. They announced that AAA would be sending luchadores to Impact’s "Slammiversary" show on July 2nd. Jarrett was asked who from AAA would be on that show, but said that would be determined and announced at a later date. Impact would be sending Bobby Lashley, Eddie Edwards, Davey Richards, & Moose to AAA for "Triplemania XXV". Jeff Jarrett also announced that there would be an Impact championship defended at Triplemania.

Speaking on "The Dan Le Batard Show" on ESPN, Ric Flair gave his own version of events of the bar incident which happened a few weeks ago in Fort Wayne, IN. Flair said that while he was at The Deck at the Gas House In Fort Wayne, he politely asked if they could put the Masters golf tournament on TV. The bartender told Flair that this wasn’t a sports bar and Flair replied saying that he never said it was, he just asked if they could put on the golf tournament on the screens. Flair said that he had one drink and then asked for another drink and the bartender used the same glass, rather than give him a new one. When the bartender challenged Flair and asked him if he’s trying to teach him how to bartend, Flair replied, “Not if I don’t have to, dumbass.” The bartender then asked Flair to clarify if he just called him a dumbass and Flair said he could call him a dumbass or a fat ass. Flair was then kicked out of the bar for disrespecting the employee.

Mick Foley had hip replacement surgery last week. Oklafan wishes him a speedy recovery. After surgery he was editing his Saint Mick: My Journey from Hardcore Legend to Santa’s Jolly Elf book that comes out on October 17th. He posted on Twitter "Editing #SaintMick until 5am after hip replacement surgery! That's HARDCORE @jasonpinter! Comes out Oct 17 with @PolisBooks".

Mick Foley underwent successful hip surgery last week and is now on the road to recovery. “Thanks for all the well-wishes, kind words and prayers for my hip surgery. Spirits are high after a visit from Buddy the Elf in recovery,” Foley wrote. The Buddy the Elf was his daughter Noelle dressed as an elf. Late last year, Foley admitted he needed hip surgery but he did not have health insurance to cover an operation that costs $60,000. He recounted how for 26 years he had insurance but for the past four years, things got complicated and missed a few payments and when 2016 rolled around, he was no longer insured. His daughter Noelle wrote in a post on Instagram that his recovery will most likely be tough and require a great deal of physical therapy, “but I am so excited to see how much this will change his life!” Noelle added that the doctor said that this was the worst hip he's ever seen. “It's crazy to think about how much suffering my dad has been through over the years so I'm praying this will make a huge positive impact on his daily life,” Noelle wrote.
