JR's Blog: JR's Super Bowl Pick, Samoa Joe Gets RAW, New Ross Report Podcast, True Destiny PPV on FITE App

Posted: Feb 1st 2017 By: Jim Ross

Thanks for the visit to our site. Ticket info for our weekend shows in Orlando at Wrestlemania are on the home page. We have some VIP tickets remaining for both shows at Plaza Live. Tickets are available at ticketfly.com. Lets roll...

Super Bowl week and looking forward to the game Sunday in Houston. Pulling for the Atlanta Falcons with whom I worked for on their radio crew in the 1992 NFL season. The team that can make the other's QB the most uncomfortable more frequently has the decided edge. I've got ATL and the over at 58 points. Good luck but you're on your own.

Highlight of Monday Night RAW for me was the show ending debut of Samoa Joe who violently took out Seth Rollins who was coming to the ring to confront HHH. Joe was aggressive as hell and I loved it and it certainly suspended my disbelief in a memorable way.

(Unlike bad acting and watching untrained wrestlers impersonate actors while reciting memorized verbiage which seems to resonate throughout the wrestling business these days.)

Joe was a surprise guest of mine at our RINGSIDE Show in San Jose WM31 weekend and he was fabulous. He's got great verbal skills if allowed to be himself. I said then and I still believe it today that Joe is as well suited to face Brock Lesnar at a future, major WWE event as anyone on the entire roster, IMO.

Would it be a booking crime to pencil in a Joe-Brock Wrestlemania main event for NOLA Wrestlemania in 2018?

Even with Joe on the scene, apparently as a HHH associate, which still will not make either of them automatically "heels" at least at this time, I still expect to see HHH vs Rollins on April 2 in Orlando.

BTW...HHH cut an awesome, fan favorite, attitudinal promo that resonated.

Who Joe wrestles at 'Mania is TBD at this time, unless it is "leaked," like Randy Orton winning the Royal Rumble match. (Are these leaks predetermined or is some one just happy to "share info?")

RAW was a much better debut for Samoa Joe than if he only participated in the Rumble match (unless he won it which wasn't in the cards this go around.)

I'm hearing that Diamond Dallas Page is going to be inducted in the 2017 WWE Hall of Fame class which, if true, I applaud. WWE is also about to release DDP's three disc, DVD set.

Expect lots of WWE creative tweaks and misdirection between now and Wrestlemania. With many of the titles in WWE somewhat tepid, the personal issue and 'dream match' scenarios are the most marketable for the typical, Wrestlemania ticket buyer.

WWE Cruiserweights need the same attention that NXT receives as it is imperative for a small handful of talents there to 'get over' so that they can form the foundation of this potentially, viable weight class. Neville as the Cruiserweights lead dog is a great booking.

Way too much negativity about Randy Orton winning the Rumble match Sunday in the Alamo Dome. It's obviously a part of a bigger picture storyline that will likely manifest itself heading into Wrestlemania as a part of a developing storyline.

My sources tell me that Impact Wrestling is going to permanently ditch the TNA initials and that their TV tapings going forward in Orlando will be done in four day increments which will make the talents and crew happier and more productive.

Excited to be preparing for 'True Destiny,' the Sunday February 12 PPV for What Culture Pro Wrestling in England where I will be joined at the broadcast desk by Matt Striker. Kurt Angle vs Alberto El Patron and Ricochet vs Will Ospreay are just two of the main event level bouts that should rock the house. You can see this tremendous, live event on the FITE App if you have a smart device and WiFi on PPV. I can't tell you how much I enjoy and embrace the opportunity to get back to ringside and broadcast live, pro wrestling play by play. It is invigorating and my favorite part of my professional life. You will get my best work in Sunday Feb 12, I can promise you.

It's emotional for me when I think that this will very likely be the last Kurt Angle match that I will ever broadcast so you know that I will be damn ready to sauce it for a talent who I love and who was one of our greatest signees while I was in WWE.

A new Ross Report drops tonight at 9 ET/6 PT on podcastone.com and iTunes plus right here on the front page of this site. I'm joined by @Planet/Tyrus formerly Brodus Clay in WWE who's now in Impact Wrestling and does work for Fox News and Jason Powell of Pro Wrestling Dot Net joins me to talk NXT, Royal Rumble, RAW Impact, DDP in WWE HOF and much more. Packed show that is a free download.

There are many top podcasts from wrestling personalities available and I encourage you to support all of them that you can and are grateful that you help keep us at or near the top of the charts every week.

Upcoming Ross Report shows include Bruce Prichard on February 7 and Ryback on February 14. Again, a new show drops every Tuesday evening at 9 ET.
