NEWS
With SmackDown rolling into Memphis, Tennessee live next Tuesday, WWE Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler is returning to host a special edition of The King’s Court. “I’m excited about the return of the King’s Court to #SmackDownLive this Tuesday night from my hometown of Memphis, TN…Don’t miss it,” Lawler tweeted, along with an old photo of him and The Undertaker on The King’s Court. Lawler was removed – along with Lita – from his PPV Kickoff panel duties in late November and moved to a Legends deal where he no longer worked full-time for WWE. Last month, Lawler himself said that Vince McMahon informed him that he will still host the 2017 Hall of Fame ceremony and will be offered some kind of a new deal with the company in the beginning of 2017.

Jerry Lawler just announced that he will be returning to WWE TV on Tuesday night on "WWE SmackDown Live" in Memphis, TN. Lawler will be bringing back his “King’s Court” segment, which hasn’t been seen on WWE programming in several years. He posted on Twitter "That's right...The King's Court returns this Tuesday night on #SmackDownLive on @USA_Network".

The CommercialAppeal.com website is reporting that Jerry “The King” Lawler is teaming up with a restaurant owner to open Jerry Lawler’s BBQ in Cordova,TN. The restaurant is close to opening its doors and its interior is decorated with wrestling ring ropes, wrestling memorabilia and several large wallpapers of the WWE Hall of Famer. The property is located at The Pointe strip center at 465 N. Germantown Parkway and will occupy the former Starbucks space in front of the Super Target and Walmart near Shelby Farms. “A great group of restaurateurs put the concept together; this is their flagship,” said landlord Michael Lightman Jr., vice president of Michael Lightman Realty Co. Lightman said that while The King was involved in the concept, he does not own part of the restaurant. Lawler already has a restaurant on the famous Beale Street in downtown Memphis titled Jerry Lawler Hall Of Fame Bar And Grille.

The BMO Harris Bradley Center, the site for WWE's "Fastlane" pay-per-view, is advertising that Goldberg will be on the show, his first time in Milwaukee, WI in over a decade. There are rumors that Goldberg will be wrestling at "Fastlane", although against whom remains to be seen. "Fastlane" takes place on March 5th, and it becomes the first ever WWE pay-per-view in that month which is not a WrestleMania. WWE does not usually put a PPV on the calendar for March, leaving enough build time for their biggest show of the year.

A. J. Styles posted a picture on Twitter of himself in Atlanta, GA with Frankie Kazarian, Christopher Daniels, and The Young Bucks (Nick Jackson & Matt Jackson). Kazarian, Daniels, and the Bucks were in Atlanta for the Ring of Honor television taping, while Styles lives in the area. You can see the Twitter post by clicking here

Jim Ross tweeted that he's finished voicing over six episodes of New Japan Pro Wrestling on AXS with Josh Barnett. Wrestle Kingdom 11 will begin airing this Friday on AXS with the Kazuchika Okada vs. Kenny Omega main event.

In his recent podcast, Jim Cornette insinuated that former TNA president Dixie Carter was sleeping with a TNA wrestler. He said "I will say that there were aspersions cast around that when she would be seen with certain people in the restaurant, or restaurant bar at the Double Tree after the events and they would be pouring the wine for her to tell her how great she was, but I couldn’t speak as intelligently as Scott Hall when it comes to that, because one of the aspersions that are being cast about that is a 'very good friend' of his."

Oklafan extends condolences to Dexter Hardaway on the passing of his father on January 15th.

Oklafan extends condolences to the family and friends of Jimmy Snuka, who passed away from stomach cancer on January 15th at the age of 73 years old. Snuka was born James Wiley Smith Reiher but later legally changed his name to Jimmy Snuka. He was originally from Fiji and after moving to the Marshall Islands, and then later Hawaii, he began to hang around wrestlers at a local gym. Initially he was interested in body building and competed in tournaments such as Mr. Hawaii, Mr. Waikiki, and Mr. North Shore. After making his way to the mainland of the United States, he got his wrestling start in the Pacific Northwest territory where he would do tricks such as biting the tops off of beer bottles and arm wrestling over a lit candle. This was all designed to hide his lack of training. After leaving PNW, he made his way to Texas where he competed in WCCW and was both Texas Heavyweight and Texas Tag Team Champion with Gino Hernandez. His first national acclaim would come in 1978 when he made his way to the Mid-Atlantic area and formed tag teams with Paul Orndorff and Ray Stevens, winning the NWA World Tag Team Titles with both. Snuka then made his way to Oklahoma, where on January 18, 1982, he won a tournament to become the first NWA Midwest Champion. He held that title until February 26, 1982 when he dropped it to Paul Jones (though some records indicate the title change occurred on March 3, 1982 in Springfield, MO). Snuka's biggest jump in his career then came when he made his way up to the WWF and became a strong contender to Bob Backlund and the WWF World Title. This culminated in one of two famous steel cage matches in Snuka's career, but in this instance he missed the target after jumping off the top of the cage. A short time later, Snuka, who had been a heel for almost all his career, turned face and engaged in a feud with Don Muraco. This went to another steel cage match which, although Snuka lost, became the more famous one as footage of the dive Snuka took off the top of the cage was re-used heavily in WWE montages (and he connected with this one). Snuka left the WWF and eventually turned up in the AWA, where he engaged in a bloody feud with Col. DeBeers. He would have two more short runs in the WWF and was the first "victim" of The Undertaker's streak at WrestleMania VII. In 1993, Snuka became the first ECW Champion (which, at the time, stood for Eastern Championship Wrestling and was still an NWA affiliate). This would be the last major run he had, though he would remain a fixture of the Northeast independent scene, often competing against the Metal Maniac or the Rockin' Rebel on cards. Snuka has 13 documented Oklahoma appearances. The earliest was a TSW card on January 15, 1982 in Oklahoma City in a No DQ/No Countout match against Tom Jones and the last was in Tulsa on June 3, 2000, where he defeated Eli the Eliminator in Tulsa at an event held under the OPW banner.

WWE has acknowledged the passing of “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka. It marks the first time that Snuka has been mentioned by the company since he was removed from the WWE Hall of Fame after he was charged with murder in 2015. “WWE is saddened to learn that WWE Hall of Famer Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka has passed away,” the statement said. “Snuka is regarded by many as the pioneer of high-flying offense because of his Superfly Splash from the top turnbuckle. His dive off the top of the steel cage onto Don Muraco at Madison Square Garden as hundreds of flash bulbs went off will forever live as one of the most memorable moments in WWE history.” WWE then extended its condolences to Snuka’s family, friends and fans. In the statement, they referred to Snuka as a WWE Hall of Famer, however his image, just like Hulk Hogan’s, is not part of the WWE Hall of Fame list on WWE.com.

Snuka's daughter Tamina posted "I LOVE YOU DAD #FOREVERMYDAD #RestWell #FamiliesAreForever #BestDad #SnukaLegacy https://www.instagram.com/p/BPS-dZ8Bt6D/".

Several of Jimmy Snuka’s former colleagues sent their condolences on Twitter after “Superfly” passed away at age 73 from cancer. “RIP to one of the greatest high flyers there ever was, The Super Fly Jimmy Snuka. Much Love and respect to the Snuka family,” wrote Hulk Hogan, who shared the spotlight with him in the main event of WrestleMania I in 1985. The Iron Sheik, another Superstar who comes from Snuka’s era, wrote that his heart was broken and he would miss Snuka “forever.” WWE Hall of Famer Jake “The Snake” Roberts said that Snuka will fly all the way to heaven and described him as a sweet man. “Sad to hear a LEGEND, Jimmy Snuka has passed. I was lucky enough to tag w/Snuka in ECW. Learned tons from him,” wrote Taz, a former ECW champion himself. Mick Foley said that Snuka’s career had a huge impact on his life and credits the cage splash on Don Muraco at MSG as the move that inspired him to become a wrestler. Foley added that he was sorry to learn of the passing of the legendary Snuka. The Rock, who is related to the Snuka family through marriage in the Anoa’i family wrote, “Our family @TaminaSnuka asked me to share the sad news that her dad Jimmy Snuka has just passed away. Alofa atu i le aiga atoa. #RIPSuperfly.” Stephanie McMahon is so far the only member of the McMahon family who has publicly commented on Snuka’s death. “#RIPSuperfly one of the greatest icons in the history of our business. Sending our love and prayers to the entire family,” she wrote.

Just two weeks after all murder charges were dropped against him, “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka passed away at age 73. His daughter and WWE Superstar Tamina Snuka posted a photo on Instagram holding her father’s hand, writing that she loved him, using the hash tags #forevermydad and #restwell among others. Born in 1943, Snuka made his professional wrestling debut in 1968, wrestling for the National Wrestling Alliance before joining the World Wrestling Federation in 1982. His match against Bob Backlund that same year from Madison Square Garden is one of the highlights, with Snuka leaping off the top of the cage with a splash, an image replayed a million times on WWE television. In 1985, Snuka was part of the main event of the first-ever WrestleMania, serving as the enforcer in the corner of Hulk Hogan and Mr. T. He left the WWE in 1985 and then joined the AWA before rejoining the WWE in 1989. In 1992 he joined ECW. becoming their first ever ECW Heavyweight champion. Snuka returned to the WWE in 1993 for a very short stint and then made sporadic appearances for the company, including appearing at WrestleMania XXV where he teamed up with Ricky Steamboat and Roddy Piper to take on Chris Jericho. In 2015, his WWE Legends contract was terminated and removed from the Hall of Fame after the murder investigation into the death of his former mistress Nancy Argentino was reopened. The cold case made it back to court and Snuka was arrested and charged with third-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter. Snuka’s lawyers argued that their client was not fit to stand trial since he was suffering from stomach cancer and dementia. Snuka eventually pleaded not guilty and a hearing to determine if Snuka was fit for trial kicked off in May of last year. It was only earlier this month that the judge finally deemed Snuka not mentally fit to stand trial.

Most media outlets covered the Jimmy Snuka death, noting both key things, his popularity in pro wrestling in the 80s in WWF and the Nancy Argentino case. Snuka was also one of the plaintiffs in the concussions lawsuit against WWF. Most stories focused on Tweets sent by name wrestlers. The cause of death has not come out but he was suffering from stomach cancer and some serious infections and had been moved to hospice care in Florida on December 17th. WWE did a ten bell salute Sunday at its house show in Jackson, MS. There was no mention of Snuka on WWE's live broadcast from Blackpool, England.

The passing of Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka dominated the front page of the Morning Call newspaper website, whose two investigative reporters were the reason behind the re-opening of the Nancy Argentino cold case which resulted in Jimmy Snuka being charged with murder. When the newspaper contacted Nancy’s two sisters, Lorraine and Louise, to get their comments on Snuka’s death, the two sisters said that they do not feel closure despite Snuka passing away. “We made his life miserable his last few years,” Louise Argentino said. “His life was affected by going to court,” she added, saying that knowing that it gives their family some measure of satisfaction. All charges against Snuka were dropped earlier this month when the judge ruled that he was not competent to stand trial due to his battle with dementia and stomach cancer, which eventually took his life. Snuka’s attorney, Robert Kirwan, said Snuka passed away at 1pm on January 15th at his son-in-law’s home in Florida. “He’s at rest and he is at peace. I came to know him like a friend and his family are my friends. I feel like I have lost a good client and a good friend,” Kirwan said.

Greg Oliver of SLAM! Wrestling wrote a story entitled "Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka dead at 73" which you can read by clicking here.
