JR's Blog: BEDLAM!! Huge, Ross Report Podcast This Week, Broken Matt Hardy,@UFC, ROH PPV

Posted: Nov 29th 2016 By: Jim Ross

Greetings one and all and thanks for stopping by our site. The Q&A's here ae updated as of Monday morning here in Oklahoma as we kick off Bedlam Week which will culminate this Saturday when Oklahoma State, Jack and Jerry Brisco's alma mater, visit Norman to face my Oklahoma Sooners for the Big 12 Conference football crown and damn right I'll be there!

Wife Jan and I had a wonderful, Indiana Thanksgiving weekend with friends and attended the Steelers vs the Colts Thanksgiving night, the Indiana State 6A High School Football title game Friday night and closed off a great, gridiron weekend by watching the Indiana Hoosiers win their fourth consecutive Old Oaken Bucket game against their in state rival Purdue.

My former 9 year, Oklahoma neighbor Kevin Wilson is the head footfall coach at IU and is doing a terrific job as the team just became bowl eligible for the second year in a row for the first time in 26 years.

Working on Ross Report Podcast production tonight at our studio and will be putting the finishing touches on this week's show featuring Broken Matt Hardy and the legendary Bill Apter. Subscribe for FREE on iTunes and never miss a show and they will be automatically downloaded into the device of your choice. It's a freebie for you and helps us greatly in the process. A new TRR drops every Tuesday night at 9 pm ET/6 pm PT on www.podcatone.com, iTunes and here on the homepage of this lonely website.

My guest next week on our show will be the controversial Chael Sonnen and we will talk about his grappling ppv event, his MMA career being restarted in Bellator and his views on a variety of pro wrestling topics.

Tickets are on sale now for all our upcoming RINGSIDE with Jim Ross Shows:

Thursday night January 12 in Phoenix at Stand Up Live and tickets are available at www.standuplive.com. This will be my first show in Arizona.

Sunday afternoon January 29 just before the Royal Rumble in San Antonio at the Improv Comedy Club River Center and tickets are available at www.rivercentercomedyclub.com.

Always suggest that VIP is the way to go to best enjoy the experience. Nonetheless, general admission tickets are only $25. The show in San Antonio starts at 2:30 and will conclude by approximately 4 pm and the Improv is an easy walk to the Alamo Dome to enjoy the Royal Rumble.

WWE has got plenty of work to do to sell out the Dome which is why I feel that they will load the card for San Antonio with a couple of attractions beyond the actual Rumble match. No matter who is in the Rumble match I have my concerns that that one attraction will sellout the large venue.

Nonetheless it will be a fun weekend for all fans when you factor in the NXT Takeover event Saturday night, our show on Sunday afternoon and the Royal Rumble on Sunday night.

Excited to watch the ROH PPV this Friday night at 9 pm ET on the FITE TV App.An eExcellent wresting card is booked that I expect to deliver in a big way. These PPV's are all about what happens bell to bell and as long as ROH continues with that trend I will stay hitched to their wagon. Pumped for several matches especially Cody Rhodes versus Jay Lethal who are two of my favorite in ring talents working today. Kyle O'Reilly vs Adam Cole will cook as well. It's a well booked card from top to bottom.

Going to be an interesting year for UFC if the media reports are true that UFC is going to request a quadruple raise in the domestic, TV rights fees. Interesting negotiation strategy when one breaks it down. I expect many more significant stories to come out of the organization as the year progresses as the brand will be challenged to have a money year on PPV as they have had this year. It's all about attractions and personal issues that can resonate with the ticket buying public.

Not unlike WWE, UFC's biggest challenge is developing new, stars that can organically connect with the fan base.

Saw online where, allegedly, WWE gave their broadcasters instructions on how to frame their narrative for the Goldberg-Lesnar bout at Survivor Series and it was reported that it was to call the match as if it were a real fight with MMA flavor. My question would be why wouldn't that be the goal on every bout that fits that description or comes close.

This is not just for WWE but for every wrestling promotion that is if the goal is still to get one's audience to buy in and suspend their disbelief while getting lost in the story. That is the objective, right?
