JR's Blog: New, The Ross Report Tonight w/ Jerry Brisco & Bryan Alvarez! Balor, Too Many Bumps, Rollins, Jericho-Lesnar Dust Up

Posted: Aug 24th 2016 By: Jim Ross

Excited to welcome both WWE Hall of Famer Jerry Brisco and Bryan Alvarez of the wrestlingobserver.com to The Ross Report podcast tonight at 9 PM ET/ 6 PM PT at podcastone.com and iTunes. Brisco talk WWE's presence at the Rio Olympics while Bryan and I chop up ROH PPV, NXT Takeover, Summer Slam and RAW among other topics. It's a packed show that you will enjoy and you can subscribe to The Ross Report for FREE at iTunes and get every show automatically downloaded every Tuesday night.

Unfortunate news regarding the shoulder injury, I heard labrum, to the first WWE Universal Champion Finn Balor that will require surgery and him missing approximately six months of ring time. The only way to productively and positively get through this period of physical therapy for both the talent and the company is to devise a plan to keep the fans engaged in Finn's rehab and his "journey back." This will build a level of anticipation that can be a major asset to Balor's return. Plus, Balor and WWE both know what they have with each other so the self doubt whether Balor can be a main eventer or not seemingly has been addressed on the parts of both the talent and the company.

I predict that Finn Balor will return better than before and will continue where he left off and that would be in a main event level scenario. Would a triumphant return for Balor at Wrestlemania in Orlando be in the cards?

Did you ever think that the reason that so many talents are coming up with injured backs is because off 1. the high volume of big bumps as a result of faster paced matches and 2. The fact that many talents often times do not get their bodies in position for the true 'flat back bump' position? These out of position bumps will also result in more neck and shoulder issues going forward.

Heard of the apparent Chris Jericho- Brock Lesnar 'dust up' at Summer Slam after the Lesnar vs Orton bout. Jericho speaking his mind about what transpired and with Brock taking predicted exception to said verbiage from Y2J. Some times it truly is 'the boys will be boys' scenario as I expect was the case here. Nice to see that both men still carry that kind of passion regarding their work.

Interesting comments from WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley who took strong exception to some fans in Brooklyn Sunday night at Summer Slam for said fans being negatively vocal during the Balor-Rollins title tilt. I have to agree with Mick to a large degree that these "look at me" motivated chants serves no purpose and are disconcerting for many.

It's easy to say that if one pays their ticket money that they can say, chant, shout any thing that they choose but is that really where are on this matter? Many chants are for the enjoyment of the small group of primarily young, males to be able to entertain themselves verbally so is that wrong?

I'm not for 'hijacking' a show and can only hope that passionate fans will use good judgment on how they verbally contribute to a pro wresting show. It infinitely makes any show better and helps the talents to significantly up their game.

Two things that I am not buying into and that is 1. That Brock Lesnar went into business for himself (No Way!) nor does he need to be "fired." Both those thoughts are insane.

Equally insane is the internet ramblings that Seth Rollins is "dangerous" in the ring because X number of wrestlers have been injured during matches with him. I don't agree with these accusations but I do encourage Rollins and virtually all of today's main players in the business to slow down a half a gear and while doing so it will likely reduce the chance of injuries somewhat but note that nothing will ever remove the issue of injuries from the equation. Plus, that reduced half step always gives the talents more opportunity to perfect the required subtleties of being a great in ring performer I.E. facial expressions, body English, and SELLING, in general.

Another element to apparently more in ring injuries is the fact that many bumps are taking place outside the ring which is essentially ill fated to begin with and is something that needs to be thoroughly thought through before being executed while keeping in mind that they are not "special" any longer but are somewhat normal fare.

Tickets for our RINGSIDE with Jim Ross Shows Wrestlemania weekend in Orlando are on sale now at www.ticketfly.com starting at only $25. VIP tickets are selling very fast and are limited to only 100 per show.

Jerry Brisco had a great experience in RIO at the Olympics scouting talents for WWE even though he and his traveling partner had their pockets picked. Jerry explains this and his Olympic experience on this week's Ross Report podcast.

Jim Cornette and I will team on Friday night September 23 in Baltimore at Jimmy's Famous Seafood for a special edition of RINGSIDE with Jim Ross. Tickets are limited and are on sale now at www.missiontix.com.

Happy that the Dudley Boys got a proper and official send off Monday on RAW. Two really durable and dependable stars who served WWE and every company that they worked for admiralty and professionally. I'm sure that we will see Bubba and Devon around as one can't rid themselves of the business until the business releases it's hold on us.
