The Kingpin rants about life outside of wrestling

The Kingpin rants about life outside of wrestling

Posted: Oct 22nd 2014 By: Mike Iles

As I was perusing Facebook this morning, I came across a video that someone posted on September 6th. It has more than a handful of people with their feathers ruffled. (Oklafan Editor's Note: The post and video has since been removed by the original poster.)

It was a TV segment of IZW where Jordan Jacobs had to relinquish the IZW Championship back to Johnny Z due to a fast count by referee George Knight. The person that posted the video is a former student at Lawton High School and posted it with the following comment "This is what our LPS faculty do during their free time. Please stop this. Share please get this across the USA". I don't see what the problem is. First off, Jordan Jacobs is no longer a teacher for Lawton Public Schools, but let's leave that out.

Independent pro wrestlers come from all walks of life. Some have real jobs to help support their dream of being a pro wrestler. Off the top of my head, I can think of 9 people that are or were currently involved in some way in pro wrestling that also currently work for a public school system in an administrative or teaching/coaching position. I work in a call center and although I don't know of any right now, I have personally worked with 3 other pro wrestlers that worked at the same call center. Some wrestlers are truck drivers, some work in the restaurant field, or in retail, or for an insurance company, or at a casino as a supervisor and blackjack dealer. Some work in law enforcement, or work in graphic design, or on the assembly line at the bus plant here in Tulsa.

But what Jordan Jacobs and so many others of us are doing is living out a dream. No matter what size that dream is in each of us, our real job is what provides us the income to do what we do. If the dream is to make it to WWE, or Ring of Honor, or wrestle in Japan, or just stay here in Oklahoma and be who we are, then so be it.

The point I am trying to make is I don't understand why this person thinks that Jordan Jacobs wrestling is a bad thing? George "The Animal" Steele, Shane Douglas, and Matt Striker all were teachers before making it to the big time in wrestling. Does a teacher who wrestles on the side make poor decisions when it comes to his students? Is he dropkicking his students when they don't turn in their homework or are tardy to class? It isn't illegal and it isn't immoral so who really cares?
