The Scoop

NEWS
After getting name-checked by Kharma yesterday on RAW, WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross wrote on Twitter that he has been getting a lot of angry messages for calling the artist formerly known as Awesome Kong fat. ?Lots of angry folks. Ask @Kharma the story. She?s a wrestler & not a typical WWE Diva,? wrote JR, adding, ?Yes, I?m fat. Duh,? directed at those messages which called him fat in return. JR said that he saw Kharma when he was at the Cauliflower Alley Club in Las Vegas with Steve Austin three years ago and both endorsed her to the WWE. ?Kharma will never be a standard issue WWE diva. She?s a wrestler. And a keeper,? he then wrote. As revealed last week, Kharma will be off WWE television for the next nine months or so after she found out that she was pregnant and her WWE career had to be put on hold after debuting a month ago.

In defense of Jim Ross, Kharma posted the following: "If @JRsBBQ hadn?t shot from the hip all those years ago, I wouldn?t of had the fire to succeed as much as I did. I wouldn?t of had the strength to sacrifice being with my family, my country, my native tongue to live in Japan for 6 years and learn this craft. I owe Mr. Ross a great gratitude."

Kia "Kharma" Stevens on her web site defended Jim Ross, saying if Ross hadn't been honest with her, she'd have never made it in wrestling, as his comments were her impetus to go to Japan and also noted Ross was the one who pushed her to WWE after she had quit TNA. "You never have to worry about where you stand with JR. He'll give you constructive criticism when you need it and praise you when you've earned it. He's no sycophant and that is something to be celebrated."

Jerry Lawler threw out the ceremonial first pitch at the Cleveland Indians-Texas Rangers MLB game Thursday in Cleveland, OH

First he got the legendary Michael Hayes, then moved to Umaga?s former manager Armando Estrada, but now it seems that Tyson Kidd has made up his mind on his new manager. Enter Matt Striker. The Canadian has secured the services of the former Smackdown announcer during last week?s episode of "WWE Superstars" and the teacher-turned-wrestler has promised Kidd that he will get him to appear on pay-per-views. Striker, who also did commentary for Superstars, will be replaced at the broadcast table by Booker T.

Jim Duggan was the special guest host at the WWE house shows in Huntsville, AL on June 3rd and Fayetteville, NC on June 4th.

WWE.com announced the death of Betty George, the first wife of the late Hall of Famer and wrestling legend Gorgeous George. Betty was 98 and passed away in Gearhart, OR last week. Betty made an appearance last year at the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony to accept the induction of her late husband in Phoenix, AZ. Last year the WWE bought the rights of the 2008 John Capouya book "Gorgeous George: The Outrageous Bad-Boy Wrestler Who Created American Popular Culture," and they plan to release a movie based on his life through WWE Studios.

The opening segment from Raw did air as it was supposed to as opposed to how it did on Monday on the replay Saturday night on Universal HD. It also aired fine in Europe. However, they didn't edit Jerry Lawler and Michael Cole so they were talking about all the technical problems, where on the replay and international showings, there weren't any.

?I was elated that Jeremiah ended up in the Top Three. IIRC, Jeremiah had never been in the bottom three but the fact that he made it that far with a minimum of training was impressive,? Dutch Mantell told Gerweck.net about "WWE Tough Enough" contestant Jeremiah Riggs, who trained at Mantel?s University of Dutch wrestling school in Tennessee. ?Even though he didn?t win the contest, WWE would be well served in bringing him on board,? said Mantell.

Ted DiBiase Sr. is working with the Miami Dolphins on a fund raising weekend for the Miami Dolphins Foundation with several events including golf and fishing tournaments. DiBiase Sr. will auction off a suite at the stadium that holds 14 people for WrestleMania along with a title belt signed by John Cena, Triple H, Rey Mysterio, Kane, Miz, Sheamus, Randy Orton, and Ted DiBiase Jr.

Terry Taylor parted ways with TNA Wrestling as of May 31st, ending an 8 year run with the company. He started with TNA back in 2003 and has held multiple roles within the organization. The 55-year-old Taylor competed as a wrestler and worked as a backstage interviewer. Behind the scenes he was a trainer, road agent, and most recently the Director Of Talent Relations for the company.

TNA is continuing with their "Why wrestling matters" campaign and the latest video features World Champion Sting. Click here to view the video.

The Wrestling Observer is reporting that the reason The Network storyline ended up making no sense is because Mick Foley asked for his release from TNA due to creative differences and so they had to write him out. He has not officially been released but it is expected to happen shortly.

Mick Foley posted on Twitter: "I pushed hard for changes I felt would benefit Impact Wrestling. I can understand how some would interpret that as difficult to work with."

Reid Flair, the son of Ric Flair, was a recent guest on World Wrestling Insanity. During the interview he said all he needs is praise from his father, ?If I die and no one remembers me for anything else, as long as I have the respect from my father, that?s enough for me. If I can accomplish 1/1000th of what he has done for this business, at the end of the day, if he says he?s proud of me, that?s enough for me.? He also said there are aspects of his father that people don't realize ?I think the fans know him. They know him from the entertainment aspect of his character, his persona, the Four Horsemen, the wild crew, and stuff like that. But what they don?t know is my dad is probably the hardest working man alive that I know. I mean, look at him right now. He?s still doing stuff with TNA. He?s 62 years old. Yeah, he may go out at night, a couple of nights a week or something like that ? not like he did ten to fifteen years ago ? but the next morning at six o?clock, he?s in the gym doing his free squats and going over his skills. It?s not like he had to when he was younger. I would compare his skills to a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu 10th degree black belt. Guys who follow him know his work ethic. But to the average fan, my only thing to say is my dad is the hardest working guy alive I know. That makes me more proud of him than anything in the world.? You can listen to the entire 35 minute interview by signing up at ClubWWI.com.

Ever since Randy Savage passed away, The Ultimate Warrior resurfaced online, first with a heart-felt eighteen minute tribute video for Savage and then an attack on Hulk Hogan. Now, the former WWE champion has joined the world of social networking by adding himself to the millions on Twitter. "@HulkHogan4Real Karma is coming to collect Terry," wrote Warrior as his first tweet on his account @ultimatewarrior. "To those asking - Hogan's demise began the day he left Vince," he then added later. In just two days the Warrior had over 12,000 "warriors" following him.

The Ultimate Warrior posted on Twitter: "They say I hate Hogan. Never did. Like a favorite loved pet who has come to the end of its useful life, time to put an end to his misery." Hulk Hogan responded on Twitter with the following: "MANIACS let it go.hate comes from hateful people, forgive them for they know no what they do.I have already forgiven the Ultimate one."

Lance Storm talks Jim Ross, The Jumping Bomb Angels, Christian, and more on his latest blog at StormWrestling.com/053111.html.

A few weeks back, Ricky Morton posted a You Tube video of him blasting wrestling promoter Marvin Ward of Awesome Wrestling Entertainment. AWE's Chris Graham interviewed Ward and that video has been posted to You Tube as well and Ward is not too kind when speaking about Morton. You can view the video bt clicking here.

Andre the Giant and The Shire Brothers were mentioned during the NHL Stanley Cup Finals. When 6 foot 9 inch Zdeno Chara of the Boston Bruins was holding off two smaller members of the Vancouver Canucks, announcer Mike Emrick said it reminded him of watching Andre the Giant vs. The Shire Brothers. Andre and the Shires were actually from different eras, as Andre's big run was 1973 until his death in 1993. The Shire Brothers, both in the Hall of Fame, were world tag team champions in the late 50s, who were not brothers. The team was Roy Shopshire, who became Roy Shire, one of the great wrestling promoters and bookers of all-time. Ray Shire was much better known as Ray Stevens, one of the best workers of his era in the 60s.

Like in other parts of the world, old veteran wrestlers in puroresu don?t retire easily. Actually, it seems they don?t retire. They just become grumpy old men and keep going. Case in point: The trio of Riki Choshu, Tiger Mask 1 (First Tiger Mask) & Tatsumi Fujinami-combined age of about 165 (they are all in their 50s). And not slowing down as at a presser Thursday Fujinami announced that Legend, his new Dradition spinoff, will run 4 events later this year in Nagoya & Hokkaido-9/23 at Nagoya International Conference Center Event Hall, 9/29 at Hakodate Citizen Gym, 9/30 at Sapporo Teisen Hall, & 10/2 at Hakodate Citizen Gym.

Texas Pride Wrestling has changed its name to Texoma Pride Wrestling because they intend to run shows on both sides of the Oklahoma/Texas border. Dane Griffin is the current TPW Texoma Champion and Michael Faith is their comissioner while he is sidelined with an injury. No word yet as to when or where their first show in Oklahoma will be held.

Jake Boulder has been named commissioner of the Arkansas based Mid-States Wrestling. He replaces Jason Jones, who named Boulder as new commissioner as one of his final acts as commissioner.

FOX 23 In Tulsa did a story on the Elote Lucha Wrestling Federation. It includes several bits of interviews, including some clips from Moses Manson. You can view the segment by clicking here.

Hillbilly was admitted to the hospital June 6th after suffering heatstroke. Oklafan wishes him a speedy recovery.

Oklafan would like to send its condolences to the friends and family of Rob Phipps, who passed away on Monday at the age of 39 after suffering a heart attack on Saturday. Phipps competed as pro wrestler Adrian Steel, and while to our knowledge he never competed in the state of Oklahoma, he and his father Ken ran a wrestling federation in Arkansas where several Oklahoma based wrestlers got their start such as Brad Michaels, Fuel, and Anarchy 2nd. Phipps also was the tag team partner of Jake Boulder in Arkansas Pro Wrestling and most recently, he wrestled for Mid-States Wrestling, where he and his tag team partner Bubba Hall were feuding with the Southern Tag Team Champions Jim Fallon & Doomsday.
