The Scoop

NEWS
Michael Hayes, a former member of the legendary Fabulous Freebirds tag team, has resurfaced on camera for a role as Tyson Kidd?s somewhat manager. Hayes accompanied Kidd on last week's episode of "WWE Superstars" and said he is back because this business needs him and put over the Calgary-native youngster. Hayes was last seen on WWE television in June 2010 when he was beat up by the Nexus along with Ricky Steamboat and other WWE Legends. He is currently the lead writer for "WWE Friday Night SmackDown!".

There was a discussion within WWE to tinker with the idea of using Michael Hayes and Arn Anderson as managers. Hayes did work this past week?s "WWE Superstars" taping, managing Tyson Kidd. There is no word on whom might Anderson manage, if they decide to utilize his skills in a managerial role.

Jim Ross posted the following in his latest blog: ?Yes?I heard about TNA putting up billboards in Stamford, Ct which is the world HQ of WWE. Thoughts? A complete waste of money unless obscure mentions such as this one is what TNA is looking for. Silly expenditure of money IMO. One would think that organization would have bigger and more important fish to fry. However, what TNA does isn?t any of my business or concern but the question was asked and has now been addressed. I would guess that many WWE, Stamford based employees learned of TNA for the first time via the local billboards.?

To follow up on an earlier report by The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Brett DiBiase (the son of "Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase) has not been cut by WWE, but instead is now training to become a referee due to his lingering knee problems.

Luckily for WWE there was no NBA game Monday night and next week they are up against Dallas vs. Oklahoma City and not the Heat vs. Bulls.

TNA has cut a series of 30 second vignettes with Mick Foley, Ric Flair, Kurt Angle, and others talking about "Why Wrestling Matters." They?re reminiscent of the WCW promotional campaign, "We Wrestle" many years ago.

Either Abyss or Scott Steiner will be joining Jeff Jarrett as TNA wrestlers on Wednesday's AAA TV tapings in San Luis Potosi, Mexico as they start their AAA vs. TNA feud.

Sting and Hulk Hogan were mentioned during Conan O'Brien's monologue last Monday night. Conan was talking about Osama Bin Laden and then said about what he was watching on television. First, it was one of the Kardashians, then it was Sting and Hulk Hogan doing a promo in the TNA Wrestling ring then it was Conan himself. Good exposure for TNA as it showed a TNA logo on a microphone. It was on for around 10 seconds.

During a radio appearance on WFNZ's ?The Drive? in Charlotte, NC on May 11th, Ric Flair addressed his incident with TNA Wrestling during the company?s recent European tour. He said ?When you work for WWE, you are used to funds being available for you, if you think I am going to spend my own money, you are out of your mind. With Vince?like any other company that grows, you have growing pains, financial growing pains. When you agree to go overseas, you assume you are going like any other company and very simply, I wasn?t informed differently. I said, ?Hey I need some money while I?m here. I?m not blowing up my credit card. Just pay me what you owe me every night? and they don?t do that. I wasn?t told in a very nice way so I stayed in the hotel for another day. I?m not knocking. I think TNA is great, just they have growing pains.?

Ric Flair did an endorsement for the Tampa Orthopedic and Pain Clinic with this quote: "I broke my back in a plane crash, wrestled 100,000 matches and been world heavyweight champion 16 times. Thanks Tampa Orthopedic & Pain for keeping The Nature Boy stylling and profiling, Whooo!!!"

TNA has canceled their house shows in Alexandria, LA on June 3rd and Bossier City, LA on June 4th.

Former WWE Women's and Intercontinental champion Chyna returned to professional wrestling during last Thursday's episode of "TNA iMPACT!" and was revealed as Kurt Angle's business partner. Chyna was introduced by Mick Foley, who himself was revealed as the guy behind the Network. Chyna also interfered in the main event battle royal, eliminating Jarrett and his chances of being the number one contender. Jarrett and Chyna worked together in WWE and had a feud with him where the two wrestled on two pay-per-views, Unforgiven and then No Mercy in 1999. Jarrett won their first match but Chyna won the Intercontinental title from him in his last match for WWE at No Mercy. You can see Chyna's TNA debut by clicking here.

Mick Foley posted the following on Twitter: "RT PLEASE! The #10forRAINN campaign is officially over, and it has been amazing ? far exceeding our wildest hopes. Over $121,000 raised, in addition to increasing awareness, and allowing so many survivors to see support coming from a source no-one ever expected it from. I am SO thankful. I know I tweeted ALOT about this cause for the last 38 days, but the VAST majority of you were supportive and understanding. I WILL be doing this again for RAINN many months from now, but in the meantime, I am going to be adding a second Twitter address that will allow me to keep in touch with all of the new friends I have made through this cause, while keeping @realmickfoley as primarily a wrestling and entertainment place..with some occasional facts and random thoughts on life thrown in. By all means, I will encourage people to follow me at both addresses, and when it?s time to raise money for RAINN again, I WILL renew the bombardment of regular appeals, and ask that you understand. Also, due to the response to this past auction, I will be putting items up for auction regularly, many of them with a "buy it now" option, so that people can buy items without jeopardizing Junior?s college fund. I am going to be thinking about a few different organizations I can donate some of the proceeds to, probably in the 25-50% range for most items. One of the things I love about RAINN is that is a small group that does big work, so that every dollar meant so much. Feel free to suggest groups that could use a hand from these auctions. I?m thinking of GIVE KIDS THE WORLD as one of them, and might change them up every week or so, or have different items helping different causes. Thanks again for an amazing 38 days. I am so pleased with what we accomplished."

The movie "Memphis Heat" debuts theatrically on June 17th in Nashville, TN at the Belcourt Theater. The movie got great reviews and had a successful three week movie run in the Memphis market. The movie covers the days of Sputnik Monroe and Billy Wicks to the early 80s with Jerry Lawler and Jimmy Hart.

The New York Times has a very good story on Al Vass, who was a wrestler and later a referee in the New York area from 1961 to 1991, noting he's now a security guard at the St. George Public Library in Staten Island, NY. He has photos of himself refereeing names like Argentina Rocca, Dr. Jerry & Eddie Graham, through the era of Andre the Giant, Jimmy Snuka, John Studd, and Lou Albano. He said he was spotted after winning a bodybuilding contest in 1960 by Abe Coleman. You can read the whiole story by clicking here.

Abdullah the Butcher was recently interviewed by ATG Radio. The show begins by welcoming Abdullah. They discussed his career, his recent induction into the WWE Hall of Fame, and his thoughts on the comments made by Superstar Billy Graham, and much more. To listen to the show, click here.

Oklafan extends its condolences to Shane Morbid on the death of his cousin.
