The Scoop

The Scoop

NEWS
There has been discussions about inducting The Fabulous Freebirds (Michael Hayes, Terry Gordy, & Buddy Roberts) into the WWE Hall of Fame this year, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. During their heyday, the Freebirds had a great feud with the Von Erichs, and their entrance music was ?Badstreet USA,? being billed from Atlanta, the site of this year?s Wrestlemania. Hayes is current a writer, working on the SmackDown side of WWE?s creative team. Gordy passed away in 2001 at the age of 40. Roberts is a cancer survivor and was one of the many former stars that appeared on "The Triumph and Tragedy of World Class Championship Wrestling" DVD that was released by WWE in 2007.

Jim Ross was the special guest referee for the dark match following the "WWE Friday Night SmackDown!" television tapings in Tulsa last Tuesday night at the BOK Center. Earlier in the night, Ross was shown on the Titantron with Jack Swagger in a backstage for a segment that did not air on the TV show, as it was only done for the fans inside the arena to ensure Swagger would be booed in his home state. In the segment, Swagger said Oklahoma did nothing for him and he had already moved out of state to Austin, TX. Following the end of the tapings, the ring announcer introduced Ross as the special guest referee and JR walked down wearing his ever-present cowboy hat and WWE referee t-shirt. The match was a tag team featuring Kofi Kingston and Rey Mysterio defeating Alberto Del Rio and Kane. ?Made it full circle as I reffed my 1st bout n Tulsa n 74,? wrote Ross on his Twitter as he left Tulsa.

The backstage segment involving Cody Rhodes and the medical tech informing him of his broken nose was not shown to the live audience at the SmackDown taping in Tulsa. It took the place of the interview segment featuring Jim Ross and Jack Swagger.

The attendance for last Tuesday's "WWE Friday Night SmackDown!", "WWE Superstars", and "WWE NXT" tapings in Tulsa reportedly drew 5,000 fans. The attendance the night before in Little Rock, AR for "WWE Monday Night RAW" reportedly drew 6,000 fans.

The January 21st "WWE Friday Night SmackDown!" that was taped in Tulsa, drew a 2.1 cable rating (rounded up from a 2.07) with 3.3 million viewers. This is up from the previous week's 1.9 rating and is a new ratings high for the show on Syfy ? both with the overall rating and total viewership.

"WWE Superstars" from last Thursday night on WGN America (Featuring 2 matches taped in Tulsa on Tuesday) did a 0.49 cable rating and 565,000 viewers.

According to a report by The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there was said to be more talk this week about Triple H taking more control at upcoming WWE TV tapings under his new role as a ?Senior Advisor? under Vince McMahon. The belief is that he will get a much better feel this year of how things will operate when he is more in charge. It should be noted that Stephanie McMahon isn?t traveling nearly as much as she used to spending more time raising her three children. While she remains on call, she isn?t in the office as much, isn?t traveling to TV as much, and the belief is that it could be inevitable that Triple H could be the one running the company instead of her if and when Vince decides to step away. While that doesn?t seem like anything that would happen anytime soon, many are treating Triple H?s new role as a ?transition period? within the company. Many sources have described the TV taping environments as being much more pleasant with Triple H running the show with very few last minute changes to booking. It should also be noted that during this transition period, SmackDown writers Michael Hayes and Brian Gerwirtz seem to have more power because Stephanie is not being involved as much as she was in the past.

Harley Race and Bobby ?The Brain? Heenan have been invited to WrestleMania.

There is an interview with Ted DiBiase Jr. about this past Sunday's house show in Youngstown, OH at the Covelli Centre. He said if he wrestled his dad, he'd win. Of course, he meant his dad today. You can read the story by clicking here.

The Ultimate Warrior and Randy Orton have not yet been confirmed but are on the artwork for the new "WWE All Stars Video Game" by THQ. Hulk Hogan is also on the original artwork, but he may not be included after all. There is talk that WWE may have put the kibosh on THQ being allowed to include him in the final version of the game. John Cena, Triple H, Rey Mysterio, John Morrison, The Big Show, Kofi Kingston, and Sheamus make up the current Superstars list while Andre the Giant, Randy Savage, Bret Hart, Ricky Steamboat, The Rock, Eddie Guerrero, Sgt. Slaughter, and Jimmy Snuka are on the Legends side. There will be thirty in total for the game, fifteen from each side. If you pre-order the game through Gamestop, you will get Ted DiBiase Senior and Junior. When the cover art was released to the public on Monday, it featured Hogan, Cena, Kingston, Mysterio, Orton, Warrior, Savage, and The Rock.

WWE won?t allow Mattel to make him since he is now in TNA, so don?t expect to see any new action figure of The Nature Boy anytime soon.

Former WCW announcer Mark Madden criticized Jim Cornette in his latest blog saying that Cornette didn?t prepare potential talent for WWE while working in developmental, that he prepared them more for 80s style Mid-South Wrestling. Madden wrote: ?Cornette was schooling them in his vision, not WWE?s. When those visions coincided, good. If not, that was WWE?s problem. Cornette never understood the business passing him by was HIS FAULT. He refused to adjust.? In response, Cornette said, ?I guess that?s why none of the wrestlers who trained under me in OVW have had any success in the business anywhere, while FCW?s graduates are all the next coming of Buddy Rogers and Ric Flair. I wasn?t aware Madden was even still writing about wrestling anymore?guess he has plenty of time for that since working in the wrestling business passed HIM by??

Jim Cornette is planning to return with a new Podcast in February.
