Missy's Manor: The Battle for LaParka, and NXT invades RAW

Missy's Manor: The Battle for LaParka, and NXT invades RAW

Posted: Jun 10th 2010 By: CMBurnham

I was watching Monday Night RAW & losing interest by the minute for the three hour special. It got to the point that I had the show playing in the background, while I was watching Triple Mania #18 on youtube. Damn it, I don?t condone piracy. But the damn PPV was only available in Mexico, so I guess can justify it. There is something about La Parka VS. L.A. Park that fascinated me. Granted two guys in skeleton costumes battling it out to own the intellectual name & rights to the La Parka named intrigued me enough to go out of my way to search for the match.

I try to watch bits & pieces of everything, since I like to be up to speed on what is drawing in the business. The battle for the La Parka named had super heat with two broken down guys. The match was booked old school with brawling. Some wicked unprotected chair shots. Mask tearing with JUICE [blood actually does add to the match if used sparingly]. This match had both guys bust out topes.

Just when I thought this match was awesome, Perros Del Mal did a run in. The crowd went nuts. This was due to a very simple formula, inter promotional feuds draw money. L.A. Park won the match and the rights to the name. This can lead to an even bigger match for mask VS. mask. You now got Perros Del Mal doing the heel faction with endless possibilities in faction warfare with Perros VS. The home town team & the Foreign Legion. Unfortunately I didn?t see Dr. Wagner?s match. I may know jack about Lucha Libre, but at least I know that Dr. Wagner rules!

The key for any invasion angle to work effectively is to drop egos at the door & focus on drawing money. Usually the outsiders should go over initially to build up rematches. The loss by the home town team does not hurt them as long as they get the big win at the end. Beating the outsiders decisively is short term planning & the result is pissing away big money angles that can properly build to six months or more worth of angles. You can have fake jumps to various factions. You can bring the older-established legend to rally the home town team. Unless you want to drop the ball & just beat the outsiders decisively like the WWE VS. WCW/ECW feud in 2001. The end result was millions of dollars were pissed away to establish brand superiority, despite owning a monopoly of the business.

I then turned my head away from my computer & was shocked that the NXT rookies was beating the hell out of John Cena. I have no clue on how this feud will turn out. For one night, the unpredictability & heat this angle generated made me realize why I can always find something to love about the business. I just hope the end result of this angle is that new guys will be elevated as stars & they have a long term plan. Hell, a perfect blow off could be accomplished by blowing off the moth balls & bringing back The War Games in the fall. It certainly allows WWE creative an easy match to market that can give the WWE fans a breather from the same guys in the headliner mix.

I been very high on Wade Barrett & hopefully this beat down on Cena can launch him to main events. I originally thought Justin Gabriel looked like he was destined to be an underneath baby face. Just his mannerisms yesterday might have found his calling card by being a smarmy heel. Bryan Daneielson in my opinion deserves all of the accolades that he receives. I actually find him to be a decent promo & hopefully a heel Bryan can break him out of the pack. He can have great matches with Rey Mysterio, who is an established headliner. Hopefully the other NXT crew can pick up their game or learn how to emphasize their strengths in this feud.

I am honestly intrigued for the first time in a long time on seeing how a WWE angle develops. I just hope egos & politics don?t interfere in order to give the audience an angle that got the entire industry buzzing. Invasion factions are in. To show you how psyched I am to see how this angle develops, I?m watching NXT over the season finale of Justified [I?ll catch the Justified replay].I?m hoping that the NXT invasion angle is the start to an angle that all of us will fondly remember. WWE got me hooked. Hopefully they won?t drop the ball on one of the greatest beat downs that I seen since the height of The Four Horsemen.

On June 25, I will be returning to my old stomping grounds for Traditional Championship Wrestling in Little Rock, Arkansas. When Matt Riviera from VH1, Megan Wants A Millionaire invited me, I said ?Hell Yeah?. Not because he?s a millionaire, I appreciated the opportunity to be guest referee for Malia Hosaka VS. Athena. I looked up one of their matches on the promotions website at www.traditionalwrestling.net & saw an old school brawl that will hopefully end on June, 25.

Malia Hosaka is one of the most underappreciated veterans in the wrestling business. I saw her have great matches with almost anybody. I seen her bust her ass in carrying the greenest wrestlers to excellent matches & tearing the place down against established wrestlers in Shimmer & on other indy shows. Its one thing to be appreciated by the fans, but the ultimate sign of respect is to have wrestlers coveting the opportunity to work against her. Malia is that well respected. She reminds me of another veteran on the show in Jerry Lynn.

I don?t care about Jerry Lynn?s age. He never disappoints in the ring. He can steal the night at any time on a ROH show or any other promotion that he?s worked on. I?m psyched enough to see him compete on the show in a tag team match.

I also get to run in to Mid South Wrestling legend in Danny Hodge. The last time I seen Hodge was in 1986 at a UWF TV taping in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The guy was equivalent to Lou Thesz in the NWA Junior Heavyweight division in his prime. The guy can break pliers & apples with his bare hands. Hodge even stretched Bruiser Brody once in the ring, how much tougher can you get?
