Two Cents Worth: BUTCH REED! BUTCH REED! BUTCH REED!!!!!!!!

Posted: Jun 9th 2010 By: mikeiles

"Hacksaw" Butch Reed comes to the MWA!!!

With the arrival of ?Hacksaw? Butch Reed into the Spavinaw School Gym, it was obvious that the June show was going to be electric. Of course, Mike Iles would be making his first appearance, since he turned his back on Jeff Starchild and all of the MWA fans, when he helped ?Handsome? Jack Legacy win the MWA heavyweight title, thus joining Excellence Personified. Though the weather was hot, it was not as hot as the MWA action:

MWA MAX-DIVISION TITLE MATCH
?New Age Superstar? Gary Gram v. ?Darling? Dustin Heritage

To say that Gary Gram is odd would be a vast understatement. After barking like a dog and biting the top rope, the crowd and Gram?s opponent, ?Darling? Dustin Heritage, both knew that this was going to be an opponent like Heritage had never faced. Unlike previous months, Heritage came to the ring without a single member of Excellence Personified at his side. Perhaps, since winning the MWA Max-Division title last month, Heritage has gained a bit of confidence. Gram quickly attacked Heritage with some unusual offensive maneuvers. Heritage thwarted the attacks by leaving the ring to re-group and devise a new game plan. Despite having the crowd clearly behind him, Gram made the mistake of walking into Heritage?s superkick, and the rest was academic.

WINNER AND STILL MWA MAX-DIVISION CHAMPION: ?Darling? Dustin Heritage

Silo Sam v. Cobra Kai

With a nearly 150 lb. weight disadvantage, Cobra Kai came to the ring hoping that his quickness would be the advantage he would need to defeat MWA?s newest big man, Silo Sam. The crowd was hoping that Silo Sam had gotten some different wrestling gear that kept the back of the Silo covered appropriately. Luckily, the crowd was the only ones that got their wish. Cobra Kai did get a chance to gain some offense, as he landed a few chops on the big man. Not one to waste much time being away from the buffet table, Silo Sam quickly began overpowering the masked man from Reseda, CA and nailed him with an enormous blockbuster.

WINNER: Silo Sam

?Mr. Saturday Night? Michael Barry (w/?Darling? Dustin Heritage) v. ?Third Generation Superstar? Max McGuirk

The feud between ?Mr. Saturday Night? Michael Barry and Max McGuirk has been an ongoing issue for quite some time. Back before McGuirk was given a developmental contract with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), he and Barry had not been seeing eye-to-eye. Now that McGuirk has once again resurfaced in the MWA, the two have shown no love lost. Following the loss in last month?s tag match, Barry was hoping to gain some sort of revenge. McGuirk was outnumbered, as where Barry goes, so does one or all members of EP. Barry and McGuirk were hard hitting, in match that displayed their obvious hatred for one another. Despite the presence of EP member, ?Darling? Dustin Heritage, McGuirk was able to get the victory over Barry.

WINNER: ?Third Generation Superstar? Max McGuirk

?The Poster Boy? Blake Albright v. ?Broken Arrow Bad Boy? Justin Lee (w/ Jamie Lynn)

In a match that caught everyone?s attention merely because of the oddness of it, two friends, Blake Albright and Justin Lee, went one-on-one. To my knowledge, the two have never faced each other in the squared circle. However, these two great competitors put their friendship aside and done what they do best, entertain the crowd. Before engaging in their match, the two friends showed good sportsmanship by shaking hands. Lee was escorted to the ring, once again, by the beautiful, Jamie Lynn. Lee was quite impressive in the contest as he was able to hit Albright with a top rope moonsault to the outside of the ring, and he even landed the super kick. However, Albright showed his resilience, and he was able to catch Lee with the Posterizer and get the victory.

WINNER: ?The Poster Boy? Blake Albright

Before intermission, Mike Iles came to the ring with the new MWA heavyweight champion, ?Handsome? Jack Legacy, to celebrate Legacy?s newly won crown. In addition, Iles took the opportunity to explain his deplorable actions from last month, when he turned his back on Jeff Starchild and cost him the title. Iles told the crowd at Spavinaw that there was a history between him and the members of Excellence Personified, and that ?Handsome? Jack Legacy was the best man at his wedding. As a sign of appreciation, Iles then brought out a cake to help celebrate Legacy?s victory. This action brought out Jeff Starchild, who seemed like he wanted to bury the hatchet and join EP. He even asked for a piece of the cake that Iles had brought out. However, when Iles was cutting off a piece of cake for the former champion, Starchild shoved the face of Iles right into the cake and disappeared into the crowd before EP could get to him. Iles was a frosting-covered mess when he and the members of EP disappeared into the back.

Also before intermission, pro-wrestling legend, ?Hacksaw? Butch Reed, made an appearance in the ring to thank the fans for having always supported him, whether it was good or bad. The MWA was honored to have Mr. Butch Reed visit the show.

?Terrific? Tim Rockwell (w/ ?Big? Stevie Caballero) v. ?The Human Action Figure? Jeff Starchild

Tim Rockwell, in addition to feuding with Blake Albright and Max McGuirk, has spent the last several months arguing with the MWA booking committee about getting back to the top of the MWA ladder and getting his coveted MWA heavyweight title back. What better way than getting a chance to defeat the recently dethroned champion, Jeff Starchild. Starchild was also looking for a little revenge on Rockwell, after he helped Barry in a post-match beat down in March following the steel cage match. Despite Starchild having the crowd fully behind him, Rockwell looked to have regained some of his old from by going right after the young, MWA star. Of course, Caballero was able to offer some interference, allowing Rockwell to get an even better advantage. Starchild showed his resilience and drew from the crowd, though, and he was able to defeat the self-proclaimed ?Pride of Texas,? thereby, furthering the distance between Rockwell and the MWA heavyweight title.

WINNER: ?The Human Action Figure? Jeff Starchild

MWA HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH
Brian Breaker v. ?Handsome? Jack Legacy (w/ Excellence Personified)

Brian Breaker made his second appearance in the MWA, and he was instantly tested, as he was pitted against the promotions top star, MWA heavyweight champion, ?Handsome? Jack Legacy. Legacy was, of course, accompanied to the ring by Excellence Personified and a cake-covered Mike Iles, due to the frosting job given to him earlier in the evening by Jeff Starchild. In his first defense as the MWA champion, Legacy was really tested. Breaker looked like a man possessed in the ring, as he clearly overpowered the crafty champion. However, Legacy was able to keep the match at a slow, methodical pace during the first half of the match, which may have helped him in the long run. Toward the end of the match, Breaker got a second wind and began to dominate the champion again. This time, Dustin Heritage and Michael Barry decided to get in the ring, but both were greeted with some hard slams by Breaker, while the referee was distracted by Iles. Then, Breaker made the mistake that would cost him, as he turned his attention to Mike Iles. This gave Legacy the opportunity to hit him with a low-blow. Legacy then rolled him up, put his feet on the ropes for added leverage, and gain the victory over a very tough opponent.

WINNER AND STILL MWA HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION: ?Handsome? Jack Legacy

MWA TAG-TEAM TITLE MATCH
CAPTURE THE FLAG MATCH
Foreign Legion (?Minsk Manhandler? Boris Saarikoski & ?Luxembourg Beast? Dutch Hagen w/?Big? Stevie Caballero) v. Old School Express (?Space Cowboy? Jason Jones & ?Big Country? Jake Boulder)

One month after his debut, Dutch Hagen was recruited by ?Big? Stevie Caballero and formed a tag-team with the Boris Saarikoski. It was immediately apparent that these two giants would be a force to be reckoned with among the tag team ranks. This meant bad news for the reigning MWA tag-team champions, Old School Express. However, for those that know the Old School Express, or those that read my interview with ?Big Country? Jake Boulder, you all know that the OSE welcomes all challenges, no matter how big and bad they are. Going into the capture-the-flag match, OSE knew they would be overpowered, but they also knew that they had experience on their side. But, in addition to a power advantage, the Foreign Legion also had the wild card of ?Big? Stevie Caballero. OSE came into the ring and immediately went after the massive tandem, which proved to work well, as the Foreign Legion was not expecting it. The two teams battled all over, with ?Space Cowboy? Jason Jones and Dutch Hagen even fighting back up the ramp at one point, leaving Boulder to deal with Saarikoski. Hagen and Jones eventually returned to the ring, but Caballero?s two powerhouses were just too much for the champions, and they were able to capture their flag and become the NEW MWA tag-team champions. After the match, the Foreign Legion continued to beat on the Old School Express, but ?Hacksaw? Butch Reed stormed the ring to make the save. Then, the legend made a challenge for six-man tag match, which will pit the Old School Express and ?Hacksaw? Butch Reed against the Foreign Legion and a partner of their choosing, at the next MWA show in September.

WINNER AND NEW MWA TAG-TEAM CHAMPIONS: Foreign Legion (?Minsk Manhandler? Boris Saarikoski & ?Luxembourg Beast? Dutch Hagen w/?Big? Stevie Caballero)

Well, folks, I hope you had the chance to make it out and enjoy the last MWA show until September 3, 2010. Remember, ?Hacksaw? Butch Reed will be making another appearance at the show, and he will be in action this time. You will also have the chance to see all of our other great stars, so be sure to come and see us when we return to the Spavinaw School Gym in September. Until then, have a fun, excellent summer!!!!

That?s my two-cents worth,
John Wayne McGillicutty
