The Scoop

The Scoop

NEWS
WWE filmed a commercial last week for SmackDown's move to SyFy that featured Cody Rhodes, Kofi Kingston, Rey Mysterio, and Jack Swagger. It would seem that these men will end up on SmackDown! but with the way things change in WWE who knows.

WWE Hall of Famer and former commentator Jim Ross announced on his blog that he's expecting to hear what - if any - plans WWE have for him within the next few days as his contract extension ends on April 30th. "Contrary to what is being carelessly reported, WWE is still my top priority as it relates to wrestling gigs," Ross wrote. In previous blog updates, Ross said that WWE is not looking to have him back calling matches and want him to take care of something else, something which they didn't notify him what it consists of. Several reports are floating online that JR met with TNA officials including TNA President Dixie Carter earlier this month to discuss a potential move to the company if the WWE deal doesn't work out. Another rumor is that he met with HDNet to do commentary for mixed martial arts and football. "Many projects that the internet are reporting are completely false," he added. In a previous blog, Ross wrote that he believes that he will be broadcasting other events but they might well not be in pro wrestling. "Yes, my contract is up April 30. No, I have not broadcast my last event."

This will be an interesting week for Jim Ross. His WWE contract expires this week. JR signed contract extensions since his original deal expired, but apparently management has not extended him a new multi-year deal. It should be noted that unofficially, Ross was penciled in to commentate at WrestleMania XXVI, but Vince McMahon nixed the plan.

Jim Ross has been approached about doing a non-wrestling reality show.

Jim Ross noted that he was not WWE's payroll manager, so reports that WWE's search for one was an indication they were phasing him out were inaccurate. He said he'd been approached with several projects and that Friday was D-Day for WWE to make its move.

WWE will be holding the supplemental draft on Tuesday, April 27th on WWE.com hosted by Hall of Famer Howard Finkel. This draft will shuffle the Superstars who were not featured on the three hour special edition of "WWE Monday Night RAW" last night. Usually WWE does not give a heads up to those who will be switching brands and they find out right before they go out to the ring or some - just like Jim Ross - find out when they're live on the air. "What's the over/under on if any announcers change brands @ wwe draft mon? Has that ever happened?" said JR on his Twitter. "Oh, I forgot big boast 4 my career n 08," he added, referring to the draft in 2008 when he was traded to SmackDown! for Michael Cole live without prior notice.

Dos Caras, Jr. received some good reviews by his peers on the European tour. People who have worked with him say he speaks great English which obviously is a huge plus. The plan to eventually establish him on television and promote him on WWE's Mexican tours where his father, Dos Caras, was a legend in the 1970's and 80's, and was one of the greatest heavyweights ever to come out of Mexico. Caras, Jr. is also the nephew of legendary luchadore Mil Mascaras.

Jerry Lawler made an appearance at Friday night's minor league baseball game in Reading, PA, giving mascot Cauliflower a "stiff-arm" in a vegetable race.

Bill Goldberg wrote the following on Twitter in response to fans asking about his talks with WWE: "until the WWE realizes that I'm not just another wrestler
signing a deal....I don't expect any progress.Sorry"

Bill Goldberg made an unannounced return to Edison High School in Tulsa this past Friday afternoon. He was passing through on his way to an appearance at Ft. Sill on Saturday night. Goldberg spent about 30 minutes taking photos and signing autographs with students. He told Oklafan that his appearance in Ft. Sill would be the only appearance in Oklahoma this year, but that more are planned for next year. He also said that he would have a new website up soon. Goldberg graduated from Edison High School in 1984.

Rob Van Dam walked out of the "TNA iMPACT!" live telecast on April 22nd in Orlando, FL., as the new TNA World Champion after defeating A. J. Styles in the main event. Earlier in the broadcast, Van Dam wrestled Jeff Hardy where the winner was going to challenge the reigning champion at the end of the show. RVD won the title after delivering his always picture-perfect five star frog splash as confetti filled the Universal Studios soundstage in celebration. Jeff Hardy, Hulk Hogan, Jeff Jarrett, Eric Bischoff, and many on the TNA roster along with TNA President Dixie Carter came out afterward to congratulate RVD. In case you missed it, you can see the win and the celebrations by clicking here.

A. J. Styles was not a happy camper after the "TNA iMPACT!" live telecast on April 19th. Not only was Styles upset about having to drop the title, he was also quite upset when Rob Van Dam failed to hook his leg for the pin. When Styles returned to the back, he simply changed and left the building without conversing with others. The backstage reaction was mixed with some feeling Styles was being a bit of baby for not wanting to drop the title, as others felt management didn't keep Styles strong as he looked weak losing the strap the first time he didn't have Ric Flair in his corner. In recent times, Styles has been keeping to himself, doing his own thing backstage and not always tuned in to television monitors to watch the show.

The A. J. Styles-Rob Van Dam title change was originally slated for the "Sacrifice" pay-per-view on May 16th. Creative brought the match forward to try to take advantage of WWE's travel plight. Styles wasn't very happy with the way things went down but the idea is that RVD as champion would sell more tickets at house shows.

Jeff Jarrett appeared on "NBC Daybreak" in Macon, GA last week. You can see the video by clicking here.

TNA Knockout Daffney was injured Tuesday night during a dark match before the "TNA iMPACT!" tapings that aired last night. She left the sound stage at Universal Studios in an ambulance after she was on the receiving end of a sit down powerbomb, a move that eventually she didn't get back up from. "Daffney has been released from the hospital. She has a deeply bruised sternum & a severe stinger (temp spinal trauma) but no nerve damage," TNA President Dixie Carter said on her Twitter later. Daffney was helped out in the ring by Terry Taylor and Al Snow along with EMTs.

Time Warner cable has a bunch of new previews up. They have the UFC 113 preview up in English and Spanish, covering Machida vs. Rua and Josh Koscheck vs. Paul Daley, but not Kimbo Slice's fight. They also have a ten minute preview of the next Dragon Gate USA show and the TNA "Sacrifice" preview built around Mick Foley, Kurt Angle, Jeff Jarrett, and Sting. As of current plans, Foley was fired more than a month ago and supposedly isn't with the company, and Angle isn't scheduled on the show. It has been announced that Sting will face Jarrett at "Sacrifice".

The honorees include Joe Blanchard, Billy Robinson, Reggie Parks, Greg Valentine, and the late Johnny Valentine. More information can be found at NWAlegends.com/2010/vip.htm.

The Winnipeg, Mantoba, Canada based Wrestling Fan Xperience promotion reported signing a TV deal for the America One network, which is a collection of mostly low power stations, plus it will air on MSG Plus in New York and TUFF TV starting in May. The group is listing a roster of Christopher Daniels, Sabu, Charlie Haas, Kip James, U-Gene Dinsmore, Larry Zbyszko and former reality TV stars Jonny Fairplay of "Survivor" and Jesse Godderz of "Big Brother".

Jonny Fairplay talks while you can see in the background people like The Honky Tonk Man, Iron Sheik, Christopher Knight (Peter from "The Brady Bunch") and Joyce DeWitt (Janet from "Three's Company") at GeekWeek.com/2010/04/Johnny-Fairplays-Survivor-Heroes-vs-Villains-recap-9.html.

The Honky Tonk Man, Jimmy Hart, Hillbilly Jim, and Koko B. Ware are talking about forming a band and touring as a singing group at summer music festivals.

The autobiographies of Terry Funk and Dusty Rhodes have been picked up by a new publisher and will be reprinted soon.

Terry Funk and Bob Ellis are being added to the St. Louis Wrestling Hall of Fame this coming weekend. Funk will be in St. Louis for an autograph session and receive his plaque.

There is a video on You Tube with Sgt. Slaughter running a San Antonio Spurs Playoff Boot Camp. He barks orders at supposed Spurs fans and the Spurs mascot. You can see the entire video by clicking here.
