Mark Sterling was named 2009 Wrestler of the Year by MissouriWrestlingRevival.com. In their synopsis MWR wrote: No one in the sport has a better work ethic that Mark Sterling. Sterling continued his drive to become the best in 2009 by wrestling around the Midwest going up against a who?s who of top wrestlers today. Sterling became the NWA Central States Champion by defeating the ultra talented Michael Strider in 2009 to top off an exciting year that saw him become the Pro Wrestling Entertainment United States Champion in a three way dance against Krotch and Hunter Mathews. At NWA Dynamo in Kansas he went head to head against the then current Ring of Honor Champion Jerry Lynn in Kansas in a truly special encounter. Sterling has excelled in Tag team action as well by owning 4 tag team titles in 3 different companies 3XW, AAPW and Pro Wrestling Phoenix. From Kansas to Iowa to Missouri all the way to Illinois the wrestlers respect him, the promoters want him on their show and the fans hate him. We would like congratulate Mark Sterling for being the 2009 MWR Wrestler of the Year. To read the entire story on their year end awards, click here.

The Reno Scum (Adam Thornstowe & Luster the Legend) were named 2009 Tag Team of the Year by NorCal Uncensored.

WWE is taping another Legends Roundtable for 24/7 this week in Stamford with Gene Okerlund, James J. Dillon, Pat Patterson, Nick Bockwinkel, and Michael Hayes discussing tag teams and wrestling in the 1970s.

The Wrestling Observer is reporting that the WWE has invited Antonio Inoki to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, and that former AWA World Champion Stan Hansen will be inducting him. This announcement was made in Japan.

Rey Mysterio, R-Truth, Jimmy Yang Wang, Charlie Haas, and Mike Chioda were hanging out at Hooter's last Tuesday night after the Smackdown/ECW taping in Cincinnati and took time for pictures and autographs for anyone. They were all very friendly and answered some questions of fans that happened to be there.

AOL Television is reporting that Santino Marella is getting his own sitcom along with Beth Phoenix and Vladimir Kozlov who will portray his girlfriend and best friend respectively. "In two weeks, we're filming the first three episodes," he said. "It will air at first on the dot com, then after that we will get it to a network television." Chris McCumber, Executive Vice President at USA Network said that while they're not actively seeking sitcoms, they would consider one if it meets their current "Characters Welcome" brand. When asked for more details regarding show format or camera work, Santino said, "I think we're going to use one or two cameras. It will kind of be like a 'Seinfeld,' but with me. You know, it will only be a reality show if you consider wrestling reality."

The Futon Critic interviewed Dule Hill about guest hosting "WWE Monday Night RAW" and his preparations for the show. He said: "I'm more of an old school wrestling fan... Tony Atlas, Jimmy Snuka, Andre the Giant, the Iron Shiek and all those cats. Ever since [John] Cena came to do the show, though, I'm getting more into the new cats... I had known who Cena was and I knew who a lot of the wrestlers were so it was just exciting for me. Wrestlers are like a fantasy world for children and adults no matter whether you're a current fan or you watched years ago but it's the fact
that, 'Wow, man, I'm with a wrestler! I'm hanging with a WWE wrestler!' You kind of want to man-up and do whatever they can do, you know what I mean?'"

The latest promo for "Celebrity Apprentice" at has a brief clip of Bill Goldberg, but no mention of WWE's Maria Kanellis. You can view the clip by clicking here.

It was announced recently that the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, GA will host WrestleMania 27 on April 3, 2011. The Georgia Dome is of course famous in the wrestling world for Bill Goldberg's WCW title win against Hulk Hogan over ten years ago. This will be the first time WrestleMania has been hosted in the state of Georgia.

Set the date on the calendar again as March 1st will see "TNA iMPACT!" vs "WWE Monday Night RAW", the revenge! With Cheech and Chong hosting "RAW" in Oklahoma City on that night, TNA and Spike TV has scheduled another live "iMPACT!" head to head with RAW from 8pm to 10pm Central. A Spike TV official said earlier this month that the network will free up the Monday night time slot for more live "iMPACT!" in the months to come to test their show against WWE. The three hour January 4th "iMPACT!" pulled in record ratings for TNA with a 1.5 composite rating. "RAW", with the return of Bret Hart on the same night, did a 3.5.

Mick Foley will be on KLAV in Las Vegas at 8pm Pacific (10pm Central) tonight plugging his February 6th "Total Xtreme Comedy" show in Las Vegas. You can listen at KLAV1230AM.com.

Jakks Pacific's first set of NWA classics called "Legends of the Ring" will be released in May and will feature Hulk Hogan, Sting, Scott Steiner, Kevin Nash, and Jeff Jarrett.

There were a lot of unhappy TNA fans over a bait and switch from an advertised Ladder match Friday night in Manchester, England. TNA had promoted this match for months but did a strange angle involving A. J. Styles where he refused to participate. Dixie Carter, who was sat ringside, then cut a promo and ordered him to work the match. Anyway, they didn't do one but never explained why. Presumably the angle was to put heat on Styles. The story on the ladder match in Manchester that never happened was that they couldn't find a suitable ladder. All the ladders in the building were single sided and made of aluminum so they would have been destroyed after one spot. By the time somebody raised it as an issue it was too late to send someone out to find a new ladder.

TNA Director of Production Steve Smalls is the person who played Jeff Jarrett's lawyer during the Hogan-Bischoff office confrontation.

Alissa Flash's release had nothing to do with Hogan and Bischoff. Neither had seen her at all and the decision to release her was made before they took over.

Ric Flair, who is now working for TNA, has been sued by Ring of Honor for breach of contract according to PWInsider.com. The lawsuit, filed in Bucks County, PA, seeks $40,000 in damages from the former sixteen time world heavyweight champion. ROH allegedly paid Flair in advance for several appearance that he failed to show up for. Flair quit ROH quickly last year after a very short stint on WWE television and never paid back the money that he received. This is not the first time that Flair has been sued for related issues. Highspots.com also had problems with Flair last year and unsuccessfully tried to put the real NWA World Title belt he gave them as collateral after another company came forward with more legal problems for Flair.

The idea for Ric Flair's character in TNA is for him to be the James J. Dillion of 2010.

Sting apparently missed the last set of TNA tapings due to a family emergency. Eric Bischoff is said to be a bit upset over the matter but no one else in the company seems to really care and don't see it as a big deal.

The screw job finish done on last week's iMPACT! is the third time TNA has done the angle. The first took place on a Border Championship Wrestling show in 2005 when Jeff Jarrett won back the NWA Title from Raven. The second took place at "Slammiversary" in 2006 when Earl Hebner knocked Sting off a ladder so that Jarrett could reclaim the NWA title in the King of the Mountain Match.

Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff did their own address, the "State of TNA" address. The two appeared on the Bubba the Love Sponge radio show last Friday to talk about the future of TNA and answering calls and taking questions. When asked about The Honky Tonk Man signing with TNA, Bischoff said that Honky is a "piece of crap" and he would "rather drive a rusty ice pick through his thigh" than work with the former Intercontinental champion again. Hogan added that they tried to work with HTM fifteen years ago but his wife was always interfering. Bischoff delivered the final nail in the coffin saying that Honky Tonk Man "can't draw flies if you rolled him in horse sh!t."

The Honky Tonk Man has a new podcast at HonkyTonkMan.net. He talks a number of subjects including Hogan in TNA, Randy Savage, crossing Vince McMahon, and more.

On his official website, The Honky Tonk Man announced that he is "very close" to sign a deal with TNA Wrestling. The website reports that the former WWE Intercontinental champion has been in contact with the company since early December. On the front page of HonkyTonkMan.net, a TNA logo was posted on his photo holding the WWE Intercontinental Title, and a TNA video streams on the bottom right hand corner.

Bill Ali of SportsRadio 620 WHEN in Syracuse, NY rececently has The Honky Tonk Man on his "Ring Talk Radio" show. The interview started off taking about what holding a championship belt means today in the business but turned into Honky Tonk saying he just declined WWE's offer of inducting him in the Hall of Fame at this year's WrestleMania. You can hear the interview by clicking here. You can also download the podcast of the interview by clicking here.

An article about the 10 best wrestling entrances ever can be found at StalkingStevePhillips.com/2010/01/25/Top-10-Pro-Wrestling-Entrances-of-All-Time. The Honky Tonk Man ranked #10, Ultimate Warrior at #7, and Ric Flair at #4. The Big Bossman was mentioned as an honourable mention winner. All the top 10 ranked entrances also had YouTube videos giving examples of the entrances.

Kevin Nash and April Hunter filmed sex scenes this past week for the movie "Ultimate Death Match 3". The movie was shot in Portland, OR with Abyss, Tommy Dreamer, Al Snow, Shane Douglas, and many other wrestlers. Hunter said of her scene: "Nash is a hottie. I don't normally like the older guys that much, but he's an exception to the rule. He was such a professional!" You can check out April Hunter at AprilHunter.com.

Buddy Landell is now working on a acting career. He has a part in the 2010 movie "Betty Ann Waters" co-starring Sam Rockwell.

A new book on Minnesota wrestling entitled Minnesota's Golden Age of Wrestling - from Verne Gagne to the Road Warriors, will be released on May 1st. The book is written by George Schire through Minnesota Historical Society Press. Schire is an avid wrestling historian dating back to the 1950s and has one of the most extensive collection of wrestling programs, clippings, photos and memorabilia in existence. A blurb on the book reads: "Why was Minnesota, a land known for its stoic farmers, reasonable politics, and comfortable casseroles, a hotbed of the wacky and wild world of professional wrestling? And how did that old-school wrestling become the Saturday night program of choice for thousands of Midwestern families in the last half of the twentieth century? Professional wrestling historian and insider George Schire is here not
only to set the record straight but to entice you into a world gone by, a world that comes alive through his colorful and perceptive reporting."
