JR's Blog: Monday Update..Russo..Austin on NBC Tonight..Must See Monday Night Raw..Record Month for On Line Sales

Posted: Jan 26th 2010 By: CMBurnham

Happy Monday to all! Thanks for stopping by and especially to those who have been and will be placing orders in our on line store. We are having a record setting month in our on line store and we appreciate your help in building our small, family owned business.

Read an interesting commentary that a friend send me on a website called Bleacher Report. The article was entitled "Fading Art of Wrestling Commentary: Lost Art or Just a Phase?" Check it out.

Thanks to those that recognized our success with our Homeland Grocery Store relationship. If we can earn our way onto the shelves at all the Homeland Grocery Stores it would be huge for us. Being their #1 selling BBQ product in the month of December is a step in the right direction.

Congrats to one of my favorite athletes/celeb's, Gina Carano, for scoring a huge movie part in Steven Soderbergh's latest film, "The Knockout," which is a spy film being filmed in Ireland. Gina can have a brand built around her and still draw positive attention to the Strikeforce brand no matter if she has one fight or a dozen left in her. Trust me...brand building is an art form and MMA fans in general love Gina. What's not to love? Quality, women's MMA, if properly branded and promoted, can be a big deal.

Loved the NFL yesterday and followed both championship games closely. Peyton Manning is a freak 'o nature with how he gets all his weapons involved in the game and how he dissects a defense and the Jets had a great defense. Manning now how two weeks to study the Saints. That's scary if one is a Saints fan. Garrett Hartley who kicked the winning field goal is a former OU Sooner who has consumed his share of JR's BBQ in Norman.

Any Viking fan who places all or most of the blame for Minnesota's overtime loss to New Orleans on QB Brett Favre needs to be drug tested. Having 12 men in the huddle when a field goal would have won the game in regulation is unpardonable. Do Viking fans honestly believe that they would have been in the NFC Title game without #4? Plus, my man Adrian Peterson, another former Sooner, has got to address his fumbling. Turnovers are the kiss of death no matter how talented a player might be.

I've got my DVR set to record "Chuck" tonight on NBC featuring Steve Austin. Chuck leads into Raw which, of course, airs on the USA Network.

More on the Russo topic I addressed over the weekend. For the record, and as if it matters, Russo and I are not on the same page philosophically as it relates to creating a pro wrestling TV show but I don't see as that makes either of us a bad guy or either right or wrong. It's all a subjective, creative process and I will re-state that I have huge respect for all creative types in this genre as their work is under a more intense microscope than at any other time in history. Personally, I lean toward more in ring content but I have never inferred that I did not like wresting talk especially if it is organic in nature, spontaneously delivered and takes me to a viable and tangible destination. Any overwritten show on TV, no matter the genre, is hard for me to enjoy as I tend to follow the "less is more" philosophy. It's all very subjective stuff but dealing with critics is just a part of the process.

BTW as a kid I would say that wrestling talk likely got me hooked on the product more than most matches as that was the era when a star wrestler took on the perpetual, seemingly winless prelim guy.

After I mentioned that I thought that Kevin Kelly was a talented and underrated wrestling broadcaster her last week, a fan emailed me that he had just watched a DVD of Kevin blasting me for something on one of those "shoot" style interviews. I have never really watched many of these, none that I can recall, but I don't put much stock in to what was or wasn't said. Hell, Kevin might have been right. I have been a pain in the ass at times to some folks in my 36 years in the business, not that I pride myself in that distinction. Nonetheless I still like Kevin Kelly's work, respect him as a family man and consider him more than just a former associate.

Our Twitter biz is really growing. Check 'em out at http://twitter.com/JRsBBQ. We cover every thing from 'rasslin to football...food to fools...and every thing in between.

Just another reminder that I can't physically answer all your emails so if I don't please don't take it personally.

We did update dozens of new Q&A's on this site earlier today so I invite you to check them out.

Funny email came our way regarding who I would predict would win a proposed wrestling match between WWE HOF'er Jimmy Hart and Jim Cornette. I gave the nod to JC because of the "girth" factor as I happen to know plenty about "girth." I would volunteer to referee that one as stripes make one look slimming.

I really appreciate other websites reprinting portions of our blogs, but rarely the Q&A's which surprises me, but give a brother a break and plug the products from time to time. Better yet, order the damn stuff. Most of that was an attempt at humor but some sites essentially reprint huge chunks of my blogs and never mention that we survive here by selling products from our on line store and not by ad sales or being a premium site.

BTW if you want me to autograph an item, we have been signing a ton of the Topps Trading Cards recently BTW, please make sure that you include a self addressed, stamped envelop or it won't get done. Thanks.

We are researching on how Ebay ships internationally so that we might be able to get some products to areas outside the USA but it's obvious that it won't be cheap.

I expect am exciting and must see edition of Raw tonight from Columbus, Ohio as it's the last Raw prior to this Sunday's Royal Rumble. As a fan, I'm anxious to hear and see the latest on the McMahon/Hitman saga, how DX is co-existing after last Monday night and both having strong, common agendas regarding winning the Royal Rumble match, and the latest on the WWE Champion and his #1 contender. Tonight's broadcast might even be described as being "vintage." I'm just saying.

Thanks for stopping by and please send a friend the link to our site. We need your help in our growth and by you suggesting to your fan/friends to check out our site is appreciated. Be well.

Boomer Sooner!
