JR"s Blog: Friday Update...JR at Homeland Grocery Stores in Norman Saturday...Umaga

Posted: Dec 7th 2009 By: CMBurnham

Thanks for stopping by on a frigid day here in Norman. However, as usual with Oklahoma weather, it could be 50 degrees here tomorrow.

I always thank those of you who are ordering our products from our on line store. Never think that my family doesn't appreciate your business as we do greatly.

BBQ'ed Random Thoughts:

Details are very sketchy regarding the condition of Umaga (Eddie Fatu) who, as I write this is in ICU of a Houston hospital. Some say that Umaga may have had a massive heart attack but that has not been confirmed. He fell asleep and his wife apparently was unable to wake him. From all I read about sleep apnea, I have been diagnosed with it myself, it may be possible that Umaga had an undiagnosed case of sleep apnea which puts huge stress on one's heart because one stops breathing many times for several seconds every hour one sleeps. I stopped breathing over 40 times in one hour when I under went my sleep study. Please keep Umaga in your prayers. He was a very skilled, big man but more importantly he is a father and a husband.

I will be at the Homeland Grocery store on Robinson in Norman from 10 a.m.-noon Saturday morning and at the Homeland on Alameda Saturday from 2p.m.-4 p.m. signing J.R.'s BBQ Products. Come see me if you are in the neighborhood.

Tonight I am going to meet up with my pal Sean Grande who is the radio voice of the Boston Celtics who are in town to take on the OKC Thunder. I'm looking forward to tonight's NBA outing.

We've updated more of your questions and addressed many of your comments as well in our Q&A Section of this site.

WWE personnel are scheduled to return from Iraq and land stateside some time Saturday. WWE does a great thing with the annual "Tribute to the Troops" which will air on NBC later this month.

Raw will be interesting as some of the weary travelers will have to gear up and hit it again Monday night in Dallas at the ACC.

Raw Guest Host Mark Cuban will likely be very involved in the program and rumors say Cuban may even step in the ring to "wrestle." I'm hoping that Cuban sticks to administrative duties and refrains from grappling. That would be reminiscent of some of yours truly's forays in the ring which aren't some of my proudest, wrestling memories. Does the term "cow on ice" ring a bell as it relates to J. R.'s in ring exploits?

We received an email about the chances of me returning to WWE announcing at the Royal Rumble in Atlanta. I don't have a conclusive answer but right now it is doubtful. Plus, what announce team would I join? Again, let's not assume it is automatic that I return to Smackdown as their team is evolving and I've been replaced admirably by Matt Striker.

Been offered an opportunity to do a live chat with Joey Styles and Howard Finkel during the TLC PPV. We haven';t nailed that one down yet but it might happen.

Speaking of www.wwe.com my Smackdown blog is posted now. BTW why am I still having my submissions posted on the Smackdown page?

Jesse Ventura's "Conspiracy Theory" did a great rating on its debut this past Wednesday night. I hope the WWE HOF'er makes it on truTV. He may not like me but I wish him no ill will and remain steadfast that The Body didn't measure up with Jerry Lawler, Paul Heyman or Jim Cornette, in my opinion at least while they worked with me. Perhaps in Jesse's prime that might have been a different story. Or perhaps it was me who did not jell with the former Governor of Minnesota.

For the record, I have NO Twitter account as of yet.

The theory of getting young wrestlers elevated to the next level isn't without taking a few calculated risks and getting a little luck. The worst thing that can happen is for a young guy to get his shot and be judged solely on that one opportunity. Young wrestlers need "minutes" and plenty of them to accurately be judged. One time successes or failures should not decide any thing.

Plus, the only way younger guys to get to the next level is to compete with established talents...win lose or draw...oh, yeah...no one has draws any more because time limits are an after thought. Another pet peeve but I digress.

I've waffled on the Alabama-Florida game. I woke up at 6 this morning and did my football predictions on Fox 25 in OKC and I went with Bama and the 4 1/2 points. Plus, I think that Nebraska will play Texas closer than the pundits think but the 'Horns win a physical game in Jerry-Land in Dallas Saturday night.

Health wise I am feeling better every day. The facial paralysis on the right side of my mouth is still prevalent especially when I tire but it is improving. My right eye is still problematic but is slowly getting better. The new news that I am borderline diabetic was an eye opener but, luckily, with a drastically changed diet and an exercise program in place I think I can nip that issue in the bud. I have two doctor's appointments next week which will hopefully go well. All this stuff sounds serious but I know and see so many folks whose issues are on such a different level than are mine. I am so thankful for my many blessings and have no complaints.

Mentally, I feel awesome and know full well that my best days lie a head. I'm ready for the next adventure as I expect my WWE duties to likely change in the future.

Thanks for visiting us and for shopping in our store and keep in mind that a couple of our offers go away on December 12. We're still offering Federal Express FREE SHIPPING and I encourage you to take advantage of it.

Boomer Sooner!
