JR's Blog: Tuesday Update...JR at Norman Homeland Stores This Saturday...RAW thoughts...Ventura Might Be Right

Posted: Dec 2nd 2009 By: mikeiles

Feels as if winter is finally thinking about paying us a visit here in Oklahoma even though our "winters" are usually relatively mild. It sure beats living through the winters in the Nutmeg State...in all due respect.

Keep those on line orders coming as we are hoping to make this December a record month for sales on our website and we can accomplish our goal with your help.

BBQ'ed Random Thoughts.....

I'll be making two in store appearances this Saturday in Norman with our friends at Homeland Grocery Stores in support of them carrying our BBQ Sauces, Ketchup, Beef Jerky and our Cookbook. I will be signing these items and hope that you will drop by and say "howdy" if you are in the vicinity. From 10 a.m. until noon I will be at the Homeland located at 2600 Robinson and then from 2 p.m.-4 p.m. I will be at the Homeland located at 1251 Alameda. Come on by if you can.

In another Oklahoma matter, tickets for the Monday Night Raw in OKC on March 1 go on sale on January 16.

Raw will be down the road in Dallas this coming Monday and the wrestlers and staff will be enjoying the catering of J.R.'s Family BBQ. I am not planning on making the 5 or 6 hour round trip drive but our great food will be there which is likely a more popular choice.

Baltimore Raw Thoughts:

I felt the show needed more bell to bell wrestling. Only two bouts in the two hours stayed with me....Kofi vs. Orton and HHH vs. Jericho.

Good to see that Kofi is remaining relevant. Kingston's growth continues. I don't get too wrapped up in wins and losses.

Sheamus did not lose any of his "steam." That was a positive. Too much negative is being made of Sheamus vs. Cena at the TLC PPV. WWE has to try and elevate new talents and Sheamus is getting a shot. He's a tough guy who works hard. Why shouldn't Sheamus be given a shot before he's condemned? Let's see how his match goes with Cena on PPV before all the "internet experts" anoint this pairing as a failure.

The theory is to get new bodies in the main event mix. It seems like it is damned if one does and damned if one doesn't these days with who gets the nudge to the upper regions of the cards. That just too much negativity. That's exactly why I delete so many emails as they are either overtly negative from start to finish thus depressing to read or they are way too long.

As I predicted, Verne Troyer had a helluva time following Jesse Ventura who was a hit last week as guest Raw G.M. The tool-like Mark Cuban will likely do a fine job of filling the guest G.M. slot next week in the ACC in Dallas. I wonder if Cuban will like or dislike HBK who is a huge San Antonio Spurs fan?

The guest commentary aspect of the HHH-Jericho bout added to the presentation. Fresh voices, different levels of emotion, etc are nice additions to the normal bill of fare at any announce table.

Jesse Ventura has been making the rounds promoting his new TV show "Conspiracy Theory" which debuts on truTV Wednesday night. (Should I watch Dog the Bounty Hunter or The Governor?) Jesse has always been outspoken especially about wrestlers having a union which will likely never happen. I'm not saying that a union would or would not help wrestlers because I've never been in a union. I'm not against the idea for the record. Nonetheless it doesn't matter what I think about unions because all I know is that wrestlers can't unanimously agree on what to order at JR's BBQ much less trust one of their peers with navigating the seas of negotiating for new money, better benefits, etc. I do think that Jesse does make some valid points and that the biz needs to undergo many changes but forming a union isn't necessarily the cure all. Providing wrestlers with more recovery time IE a somewhat reduced travel schedule, building more roster depth, doing more financial planning education which includes tax planning and estate planning, and establishing a zero tolerance for drug abuse are among the things that would perhaps go on my personal wish list of things to help wrestling.

We've updated the Q&A section again since yesterday so check it out if you choose. If you're getting your questions deleted they're generally either too long, repetitive or they contain so many misspelled words that I'm embarrassed to print them. Don't all computers have spell check?

If I had a vote for the Heisman Trophy, I would be leaning toward Texas QB Colt McCoy. This weekend's CFB action will likely decide the Heisman winner.

I'm still thinking Florida and Tebow to narrowly beat Alabama but I'm a quasi-Bama fan. I would prefer to see 'Bama win but that still doesn't make me a Nick Saban guy. Confused yet?

Be wary of loading up on Texas and giving a truck load of points against Nebraska in the Big 12 Title game. Yes, I think UT will win but will not blow out the 'Huskers due to Nebraska's stout defense and the Pelini brothers ability to defensively put together a great game plan.

Remember that the deadline for our 1560 The Game Blitz package along with our personalized JR's Cookbooks is December 12. Speaking of www.1560thegame.com you can hear me this Wednesday with Sean and John around 4:55 or 5 p.m. central time via their website for free if you live outside Houston or any time on their pod-cast. BTW the 1560 The Game package in our on line store is not a misprint...it's $15.60 including FREE SHIPPING until December 12. All our other offers will remain past December 12 but at some point we can't guarantee that you will receive your shipments prior to the targeted holidays.

Yours truly knew over the weekend that OU coach Bob Stoops wasn't a candidate for the Notre Dame football job. However, ESPN's Adam Schefter went with the story as fact and then had to wipe the egg off his face and fade the heat to his "source." Schefter came off like a kid running a wrestling website and cutting and pasting other's stories and fabricating things. BTW Coach Stoops is in San Diego today recruiting and will remain in California for most of the week making in home visits with key recruits.

I read an interesting article written by Mark Madden recently where he addressed the ridiculous notion that some fans think that by Hogan and Flair wrestling a few matches that it will "ruin" the two, WWE Hall of Famers legacies. Madden is right...that theory is a load of fertilizer. I don't think either veteran should wrestle much at all but, occasionally, under the right circumstances won't hurt a thing if they are both physically up to it.

This is another wrestling topic that is WAY over thought much like the production of many wrestling TV shows.

I hope that you head over to the on line store and place an order and we will do our best to get it to you within a few days.
