Missy Hyatt's Review of "Bloodstained Memoirs"

Missy Hyatt's Review of "Bloodstained Memoirs"

Posted: Dec 1st 2009 By: mikeiles

I recently watched the documentary called 'Bloodstained Memoirs'. The production values & the mic work was very well done. I've seen enough interviews in which I question how anybody would buy the product, since its just a wrestler behind some cheesy backdrop of a banner for 4 hours with my volume turned up [since they are never mic'd up].

I'm usually not a big fan of the shoot interview genre productions. Since most wrestlers over exaggerate, lie, & try to be politically correct for future employment. I been guilty of this or that I stay sort of in my Missy character [its mostly a character & not a way of life]. The wrestlers all came off as intelligent and did not put themselves in a situation in which I'm embarrassed to be in the same business. In fact the two most fascinating people for myself was Great Muta & Ultimo Dragon.

It's very hard to secure an interview with a Japanese wrestler & that's why I was so intrigued by their interviews. Ultimo Dragon was the most interesting for myself. I was always impressed with the background of how he got started. He had a wrestling dream & he followed it from Japan to Mexico in order to be a star in Japan. The background of his botched surgery that almost ended his career was interesting. I was thoroughly impressed with his English. The guy picked up English & Spanish for his profession, that thoroughly impressed me. The clips of him having a wrestling seminar gave a great visual of his dedication to the business.

Great Muta was also one of my favorites. Maybe I was always fond of Muta based upon how he was involved in one of my favorite career angles for myself. This was when he sprayed he mist in my eyes that started up a feud between Muta & Eddie Gilbert in NWA, which was actually a Gary Hart idea. I was always impressed on how hard he worked for the time that he worked in NWA & WCW. Muta is one of those wrestlers that the new generation can still learn from. He suffered some horrendous knee injuries by pulling out the moonsault night after night in order to entertain everybody. Now that his knees are on borrowed time, he learned to incorporate various forms of the dragon screw & the shining wizard in order to entertain the fans by building anticipation for those spots in order to make up for the sporadic use of his world famous moonsault. That's called being a master technician & having psychology. His philosophy on death match wrestling & thoughts on being the president of All Japan wrestling made the production for me. It's very hard to get an insider prospective on Japanese wrestling & this production got it.

I watched the Mick Foley segment of him at an autograph signing. Sometimes wrestlers try to portray themselves to be nicer then they really are due to the cameras being on them. I can honestly say that Foley was genuine in that segment. In fact Foley is the nicest guy in a business full of people with warped morals in & and out of the ring. For anybody to take a glance at Foley and come up with the misconception that he's probably just another crazy wrestler is a very misinformed person. The guy has went further in this business then most of his colleagues & even himself can ever fathom. Foley has succeeded in every outside wrestling project hat he has ever been involved in from a children's writer, book writer, wrestler, comedian, & wrestling talent.

Best of all, Foley deserves it. I'm involved in several charity projects & unfortunately I don't have the wrestling name in order to help them with my presence. Luckily Foley is more then happy enough to bail myself & other charities out when they need him to help them out that range from children charities, Wrestlers Rescue, & hair to be donated to make wigs for chemo patients.

I would keep rambling about the kindness & the greatness of Mick, but the production gives you a glance on a guy who is genuine with the fans. Especially when you consider how many autograph signings he has done in a life time, Foley will still have the same passion to talk to the first fan in line to all the way to the last fan in line. Foley is a great ambassador to wrestling.

The producer took a lot of time & effort in coordinating interviews from a very diverse pool of wrestlers ranging from Ultimo Dragon, Great Muta, Christian, Roddy Piper, Molly Holly, Jimmy Snuka, & Rob Van Dam to provide a production that I will most definitely give a thumbs up.
