JR's Blog: Thursday Update...Business Has Picked Up In Many Ways

Posted: Oct 30th 2009 By: CMBurnham

Good day everyone. It's homecoming week here in Norman as the Sooners host the Kansas State Wildcats, the alma mater of Mr. Hughes, this Saturday night.

J. R.'s BBQ joint should be rocking this weekend not only in the store but for tailgate packs and to go orders. To Go orders are not to be confused with the noted member of the wrestling group formerly known as Kaientai, Dick Togo.

On line sales are brisk, they could always be better, but we are happy with your support and Federal Express is doing a great job with our FREE shipping throughout the United States. Check it out and place your order today.

The Beef Jerky sales have really escalated and the 97% Fat Free product cut from the eye of round is really tasty and a healthy snack unless one happens to be a vegan. Plus, the Jerky is quick and easy to ship and has a viable shelf life. I love it and it keeps me from eating so much bad stuff as I like the protein intake and the low carb aspect of the product.

Here's some BBQ'ed Random Thoughts....

We got some medical tests back this morning which eliminated me having MS which was a relief. We had been waiting on that news for over a week. We have more tests scheduled next week as the process is essentially trying to eliminate issues that I might have but likely don't. The waiting process gets a little stressful and my wife is a Saint for putting up with my orneriness as patience isn't a virtue for yours truly.

The list of folks who have been emailing me and texting me from within the wrestling biz is amazing. I'm printing many of these communications as I think that they might fit well into a book somewhere down the road.

One concerned emailer to this site responded to my last blog with the fact that WWE has "moved on without me." The way I see it, WWE had to move on without me, for now, as they have shows to do and I am unable to carry my share of the water. If the new broadcast teams click and I am not needed on a weekly basis then, poor me, I will find other projects on which to work. Yeah, getting off the road 51 weeks a year would be a real heart breaker. I'm partially joking here but until I get healthy WWE has to move forward without me and get their work done. I am pulling for Todd Grisham and Matt Striker to light it up on Friday night's.

Without sounding pretentious or egocentric, I don't think that I will have any issues finding projects to do if the new announce teams jell as every one should hope.

Most importantly, that is NOT a concern of mine at this time but getting healthy is. WWE has been nothing but supportive of my situation and if things work out we will be doing business together for years to come. Again, NOT a concern. But conspiracy theorists can make with this info what they choose.

I haven't read the "Gorgeous George" book yet but think it would be a helluva project for a movie. It doesn't have to be a "wrestling movie" but a movie about one of America's biggest Pop Icons ever. Story and casting are obviously always key elements, duh, but I can visualize a magnificent story of a man's life in a unique world during an amazing time of our country's history.

Leroy McGuirk used to tell me some great Gorgeous George stories back in the day. George Wagner was an average hand, at best, until he created his unique persona. Now, I'm gonna read the book....great time to do it.

I also want to read Gary Hart's book. Boy, was Gary underrated by many but not by those who knew him.

Heard some had some fun at my Bells palsy expense at a recent "roast" back East. Good for them...atta boy...but that's what people do at "roasts" right, verbally beat people up. I wonder if they used the "JR lost his smile," line?

I'm taking OU by 24 against K-State and Texas -9 against Oklahoma State Saturday night but please, no wagering. If you want to read my "7 Points to Ponder" which includes some wrestling references then I invite you to check out http://ouinsider.com/news/story.php?article=3782.

USC beware in Duck Country Saturday night. I'm just saying.

Tennessee Vols coach Lane Kiffin's dad Monte Kiffin is a genius and Coach Barry Switzer told me that the elder Kiffin is as good a defensive strategist as there is in the game. But the younger Kiffin, who outpunted his coverage in a marrying a strikingly lovely, young woman, needs to "let it go" with the never ending tirades re: the officiating in the SEC. We can all see that the Ref's are having a tough year but that's part of the human element of the game. No one likes it and I dislike mediocre officiating with the best of them but, Lane, move on and make your team better. Kiffin has an awesome job at a tremendous school in a great conference so count your blessings and just coach your team. At least the younger Kiffin isn't' working for Al Davis in Oakland any longer. On that alone the young Kiffin should count his blessings.

The Dinner Impossible show on Food Network is again on Wednesday November 11 at 10 p.m. I had a blast on the show and we did plenty of work on it from like 5 a.m. until almost 1 p.m. the day of Summerslam. Made it a long day for me but it was all worth it or at least I hope that it was. Rumor has it that Chef Irvine thought I "burned the chicken" but the esteemed Chef is/was wrong as I simply grilled the chicken to make sure it was done. Eating pink chicken isn't cool where I come from but that's my story and I'm sticking to it. I did whip up some killer BBQ sauce which I'm told every one loved. The show should be funny and entertaining and I'm anxious to see how it will be edited and what the slant will be on it. Chef Robert is a cool cat and his staff was a blast to hang with and to create some adventure, drama and, most importantly, fun in the kitchen. Of course, Miz was "the tool" one would expect him to be which will likely make Miz the star of the show. AWESOME! Miz is seriously talented and has a marketable persona that is terribly easy to dislike.

Why are the Packer fans of Green Bay so pissed at former QB Bret Favre when it was the Packer management that wanted the future HOF QB to leave town? Players want to be able to call their own shots to some degree about when they "need to go." Bret is a player's player who wasn't ready to go and after all his vacillating he pulled the trigger on playing more football. I can see booing him because he is the competition's QB but not because he is no longer a Packer. But he will get booed like the anti Christ at Lambeau Field Sunday on a game that I have got to see.

I don't plan on any one telling me when I am done in the public eye I can assure you. I'll know without question.

You can check out my guest appearances on the highly rated Sean and John Show on the powerhouse, sports talk radio station in Houston at www.am1560thegame.com on line either live on Wednesdays at 5 pm central or on their pod-casts. We talk a little wrestling and college football along with some BBQ stuff. It's a fun show with great hosts on a monster of a radio station.

I will be doing my TV football predictions via phone Friday morning at 6:45 am central on OKC's Fox 25. I don't want my face to scare the kids getting ready for school. Please, no Halloween jokes. :)

Good to see Lance Cade regroup and get back with WWE. Cade has size, athletic ability and the potential to be a really top hand and I hope that he makes it. Many of us have received second chances, or more, in our lives and I am a strong believer that second chances are a good thing. I hope that Lance realizes his dreams of becoming a main event level, WWE star and on a personal level I would love to see Cade in an issue with his mentor Shawn Michaels down the road.

What's the latest over/under on the term "BROTHER" being used on various media outlets this week during Hulk's media tour to promote his book? I hope he sells a ton of books and I will likely add it to my reading list. I'm not into wish anyone "bad karma" and what is good for the wrestling biz is good for everyone in it at the end of the day.

Did you know that Paul Heyman "consults" Brock Lesnar on selected projects? Strategic move by Brock who doesn't like to deal with matters of this sort. I hope the UFC Champion gets well soon and enjoys the holidays while preparing for his next fight tentatively scheduled for January 2010. If I'm still on IR, or whatever, I might try and make that one in Vegas.

Thanks for all the prayers and have a great day. Remember to count those blessings. Great days lie ahead for all that envision such.

Boomer Sooner!
