Shawn Matthews III Announces His Retirement
Posted: Jul 1st 2009 By: CMBurnham
To all my friends and brothers of the ring:
It saddens me to announce my retirement from the sport that I have lived and loved since I was a little kid and been an in ring performer for over 14 years. I have only had 3 to 4 matches over the last year due to injuries and health issues that are out of my control and I have had a lot of time to think and look at this decision from all aspects. I feel that I have accomplished more in this sport then what was expected of me, but my body cant take much more, and I want to live to see my kids grow up.
My decision is December 31, 2009 at midnight I will be officially retired. At this point I want to spend the next 5 months competing like I have in the past with Mid-South Wrestling Alliance and Sooner World Class for my true last run.
It has been an honor and a pleasure to have wrestled with and for all of you and to have traveled the world and made the friendships and relationships and memories that will last a lifetime. I would like to say thank you to Tom Jones who originally started my training and all from Power Zone who helped as well, Bruce Hart for the 2 summers that I was honored to train with him in Calgary and to all the organizations that opened their doors and ring for a smart ass punk who lived, bled and sweat for all the fans weather they cheered me or booed me. They are the real reason for me being in the business. The kids, the autographs and pictures, the smiles on their faces knowing that they left the joy of seeing some of the best damn performers ever, with all my love and respect, thank you.
