JR's Blog: Q&A Section Updated and Operating...Random Thoughts

Thanks for checking out our site. We are working on an awesome deal for a "case price" of J.R.'s Original BBQ Sauce where the domestic shipping for an entire case of sauce would be around $10. These are the new 18 oz, plastic bottles of sauce that you can find in our on line store as we speak. Your business keeps this site alive and we encourage you to consider us for gift ideas for any occasion. Our products are affordably priced and we usually ship within hours of receiving your order. Let's get on to random thoughts....

Busy week for me next week leaving OKC Saturday for New Orleans and the Extreme Rules PPV on Sunday then it's a drive to Lafayette on Monday for a Superstars match and then more driving to Biloxi for Friday Night Smackdown's weekly taping on Tuesday night. That's followed by an early morning flight on Wednesday to NYC for a Wednesday night taping of two Roundtable WWE 24/7 shows before returning home on Thursday. Whew. The glamorous world of sport entertainment.

The two Roundtable shows will be concerning "Wrestling with Patriotism" and "Giants" in the wrestling biz. The "Patriotism" show will address utilizing stereotypes in creating rivalries while "Giants" will be about wrestling's biggest superstars and what made them great and who came up a little short and who should have been better considering their natural gifts. I do not know when these two shows will air on 24/7 but assume it will be a few months as these programs take enormous editing. Mean Gene Okerlund will host this foray and the panel will include, as of now, Michael Hayes, Sgt. Slaughter, perhaps Pat Patterson (not confirmed) and me.

Yours truly will be working with Topps Trading Cards on an upcoming WWE trading card project. I will be writing the content that will appear on the back's of the cards. With being a life long card collector this should be a fun project on which to work.

The King and I ate at Corky's BBQ in Memphis on Tuesday for lunch and it was a good experience. Having lunch with my old traveling partner is always fun and Corky's has mighty fine BBQ but I can't say that it is better than our own cooking at J.R.'s in Norman off exit 109 on I35 south of Oklahoma City and north of Dallas. To me, as a devotee of BBQ, the Corky's experience was positive as I love all types of "Q" and BBQ has a personality that changes by region of the country. For the record I had dry ribs and pulled pork with slaw and beans. The folks at the Corky's we went to were very friendly to Memphis's favorite son, the King, and me. I also found it funny that they were talking of taking down all the John Calipari signed swag after the former Memphis hoops coach bolted town for the University of Kentucky. Coach Cal isn't a popular dude right now in Memphis.

Mickey James, arguably the WWE's most talented in ring diva, is contemplating trying her hand at country music as Mickey has apparently written several songs and is preparing to do a demo as I understand it. This doesn't mean Mickey is leaving wrestling whatsoever. I wish her luck if she decides to travel the country music road as it won't be easy but neither was her getting in WWE.

I encourage all fans to vote for Torrie Wilson as she fights to stay alive on NBC's latest reality show. The phone number to call, which is free from a land line, is 1-877-553-3711. One can also vote online by going to www.nbc.com.

The fund to help raise money to assist Steve 'Dr. Death" Williams to have a device placed in his throat so he can talk "hands free" is still on going and needs your help. Please contribute at www.wrestlersrescue.org today as any amount is helpful.

Did You Know? No, J.R.'s didn't top pop icon Disney in any category last week but we did launch a new menu at our restaurant. One of our top selling items, believe it or not, is a big bowl of pinto beans, homemade cornbread, and some chopped onion for only $3.99. You can make it "All You Can Eat" for only $1 more. I call this dish "redneck caviar" and it always takes me back to my Mom's kitchen as we cook our beans like she did and soak them overnight and cook them the next day. Please place your favorite "Blazing Saddles" joke here.

It looks as if SD will be in a position to kick Raw's ass again this Sunday at "Extreme Rules." In my biased opinion, no match on the card is more eagerly anticipated than the Ladder Match for the World Title with Edge defending against Jeff Hardy. To think that I inked both these men to WWE contracts over a decade ago is a testament to how time flies. I assure you that both men will take ridiculous risks Sunday and I will be shocked if the use of the ladders as weapons doesn't bust someone open.

Chris Jericho challenging Rey Mysterio for the IC Title and essentially saying that Jericho will unmask the uber talented luchadore might be another show show stealer. Does Raw have a match that will deliver better than these two aforementioned SD bouts? No Holds Barred should favor the challenger from where I sit.

Umaga vs. C.M. Punk feels like it is an issue that just got started a few days ago but my senses is that these two will make the most out of a very difficult type of match. Getting lashed with a leather strap is a daunting task. Tough way to make a living. My brief experience in a "Country Whipping" match, and I wore as many clothes as possible, is proof enough to me that getting hit with a piece of leather isn't fun. For the record, that Country Whipping match versus The Coach back in the day in Chicago on Raw may have set wrestling back a decade and that's being kind. Put it did get a huge TV rating, sold out the arena, provided seconds of unique entertainment, blah, blah, blah.

Our Q&A section is back up and running as we made some technical changes to that aspect of the site so that I can more efficiently manage my end of it. I can now eliminate stupid and attention seeking emails very quickly with no strains or pains. I have also updated that section as of today so please check out the latest inquiries.

The one night of the year for the WWE this Sunday down in one of my all time favorite cities, New Orleans, will not be without casualties. It is ridiculous to assume that human beings can wrestle in so many diverse bouts in such extreme circumstances and people not get hurt. I can virtually guarantee you that "Extreme Rules" will see some formerly, able bodied individuals head to the "Injured List" after Sunday night. I hope that I am wrong.

It looks like Ric Flair is completely finished with ROH, or at least that's my take on it, and that Flair will eventually wrestle again for promoters abroad but not wrestle for WWE. Flair seems destined for a reoccurring role on WWE TV but I don't know the details of such or the time line. After being punted by Randy Orton Monday night in Birmingham, one wold not expect to see Naitch back on WWE TV for quite some time. Right?

My pet peeve of the week....wrestling names. I've always had the philosophy that wrestling names of individuals should sound viable and approiate for headlining such events as Wrestlemania. That's akin to recruiting and signing talent. If one doesn't sign a talent that one feels has the chance, no matter how remote, to headline an event like Wrestlemania then one is off course in my view. Stupid sounding wrestling monikers pigeon hole wrestlers into a mid card role at best which also limits an individuals potential earnings. And what is the obsession to have so many wrestlers with only one name? I get having some with one name but what is the aversion of a wrestler not having a last name. I read the names of some indy wrestlers from time to time and I don't know whether to roll my eyes, laugh or cry.

I missed eating at Dreamland BBQ Monday in Birmingham, Alabama even though I had ample time to do so as it worked out. I arrived in Birmingham at 2:30 p.m. Monday and we did not record our WWE Superstars match until 10:30 p.m. that night after Raw had gone off the air and all the post match business was handled.

Yes, to answer a fans comment, we do have loaded, baked potatoes that we can load with pulled pork, chopped brisket, or smoked turkey and all the usual trimmings one likes on their spuds. I had one yesterday after returning from Memphis and it was filled with smoked turkey and it was of the main event level.

I'll be making my Extreme Rules predictions on my Smackdown blog on www.wwe.com in a few hours. I hope that you will check it out.

Thanks, again, for stopping by and I hope that you will take the time to browse through our store.

Boomer sooner!

J.R.
