The Scoop

The Scoop

Posted: Mar 23rd 2009 By: mikeiles

NEWS
With the death of Andrew "Test" Martin over the weekend, WWE announced the next Hall of Fame inductees on the WWE.com website instead on Monday Night RAW. The Von Erichs - to be inducted by their long time arch rival Michael Hayes of The Fabulous Freebirds - are the latest to be added to the class of 2009. While the dad Fritz passed away in 1997, four of his sons - David, Kerry, Mike, and Chris - all died at a very young age similar to Martin leaving Kevin Von Erich as the only survivor of the family. RAW was held in the state of Texas and since the family is from Texas it would have been a very special moment for the fans but obviously WWE decided to avoid any bad pub and chose to announce them on the website with no mention at all until Smackdown aired last Friday.

On a recent blog, Jim Ross said that WWE would return to Oklahoma in September with Tulsa's BOK Center hosting "RAW" on September 28th and Oklahoma City's Ford Center hosts "Smackdown" and "ECW" on September 29th. The date tickets go on sale for both events have yet to be announced.

In a radio interview on KNBR in San Francisco, Ted DiBiase said one of the reasons Vince McMahon introduced the Wellness Policy was to help avoid premature deaths in the wrestling business. DiBiase didn't specifically mention Andrew Martin but said Vince's biggest fear was getting another call that one of his wrestlers had died. When asked about steroids he said they are still widespread in the business and guys use them to enhance their look and help with the heeling of injuries. He said he stopped using them in the 80s when a doctor told him that if he was born with cancer or any other dormant illness, the steroids could speed up the process. One of the hosts brought up Jake Roberts. DiBiase said he thinks Roberts would still be involved today with WWE if he could control his addictions. On "The Wrestler", he said he recently watched the movie alone, and when his wife asked him what he thought, he said that if any of their friends saw it they would ask them why on earth they would let their kids get involved in wrestling. He said the movie shows what can happen if people make the wrong decisions. To listen to the interview in its entirety, click here.

Regarding plans for the ECW Championship at WrestleMania XXV, well, there aren't any. Unless plans change just before the show (or they do a dark match), ECW World Champion Jack Swagger will not be defending his belt at the pay-per-view. Vince McMahon lost faith in Swagger after his lackluster outing with Finlay at last month's "No Way Out" pay-per-view. While McMahon still wants to push him, they don't feel he's ready for live television quite yet. Had McMahon decided on letting Swagger compete at WrestleMania, his opponent would have been Evan Bourne. As a result, he will be left off the card too. In another sign indicating the company has no plans on having an ECW Championship match take place at WrestleMania, company officials opted to make next week's edition of "ECW on Sci Fi" an "All-Divas" special promoting the 25-Diva Battle Royal instead of building towards something regarding the ECW Championship at the event. Following next week's show, there will only be one week to go and almost no time to build up an ECW match at WrestleMania. WWE wanted to make use of next week's episode of ECW to at least promote something relevant regarding WrestleMania, hence the "All-Divas" special.

Chris Jericho vs. Jimmy Snuka, Ricky Steamboat, and Roddy Piper in a 3 on 1 match has been removed from the WrestleMania website. According to reports, there has been a change of heart again from Vince McMahon concerning this match and we should know more on tonight's Raw.

Mickey Rourke was under the impression that Ric Flair would face Chris Jericho at Wrestlemania. Either he was working people, or as WWE often does, the company is booking on the fly.

Reid Flair, son of WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair, was arrested on March 4th in Mecklenburgh County, North Carolina and charged with driving while intoxicated.

In an interview withGiantBomb.com, Sgt. Slaughter was asked about Vince McMahon's blackballing of Randy Savage over the past few years. He put Savage over for having a great mind for the business saying he would love to see him and Vince bury the hatchet. He said that Savage did something bad in the past that got under the skin of Vince.

Former "Survivor" winner Jenna Morasca has been added to the TNA superstar page so in the next week or two look for Mick Foley to announce her as the new female investor.

There have been internet reports speculating on the status of Cute Kip and Jacqueline in TNA, since neither were brought to Orlando, FL for the "Destination X" pay-per-view on Sunday. Jacqueline did appear on the road with Beer Money, Inc. before the PPV. Kip was not in the corner of the Beautiful People at the PPV, leading to online rumors that they may not be re-signed. The decision was made by Dixie Carter to take James, Jacqueline, and Roxxi off television. Apparently the decision was not well received, and the blame was shifted to the feet of Jeff Jarrett. There was speculation that Kip wasn?t brought in for the PPV as a cost cutting measure, which isn?t the case since he lives in the Orlando area.

Shane Douglas returned to wrestling on March 13th in front of 300 fans at an NWA On Fire show in Roselle, NJ. He pinned Little Guido in what would have been his first match in more than five years. He cut a promo after the match talking about how he regretted disrespecting the NWA World Title at "The Night the Line Was Crossed", an infamous ECW show back in 1994.

Bill Watts was recently added to the list of starts appearing at the NWA Wrestling Legends Fanfest Weekend August 6th through 9th in Charlotte, NC. Watts will also be the guest speaker at the Sunday morning worship service.

Ruth Leitman's "Lipstick & Dynamite, Piss & Vinegar: The First Ladies of Wrestling" film is now available to watch for free online. It features Gladys "Killen" Gillem, The Fabulous Moolah, Mae Young, Judy Grable, Millie Stafford, and Jody Hamilton (AKA The Assassin), among others. To view the movie, click here.

In a MySpace bulletin on Monday last week, Striker said "I want to give out a big Thank You to Aaron Neil for giving me a great title match yesterday at MSWA. As of right now it looks like that very well will be my final match. I had a great time and enjoyed every moment of it." He continued saying "Now I want to say thanks to all of my fans who have supported me over the years. I hope to be in front of all of you once again. Last but definitely not least I want to say thanks to all my friends in this business. You guys have made the last 11 years a blast!!!"

Oklafan would like to congratulate Sylvia Richmond on her recent marriage.

Oklafan congratulates TAP Tag Team Champions The Innovators, who celebrated 1 year as champions on March 22, 2009.

Oklafan was saddened to learn of the death of Steve Doll who passed away March 22, 2009 in Tennessee at the age of 44. Doll found his greatest success from 1987-1992 in the Pacific Northwest territory, where he held the PNW Heavyweight Title 4 times and the PNW Tag Team Titles 18 times with 5 different partners. The most successful of those pairings was with Rex King. They were originally known as The Southern Rockers. They entered the WWF in 1993 as Well Dunn, with King renamed Timothy Well, and Doll renamed Steven Dunn. While they never rose very high on the card, they did have a brief feud with The Bushwhackers. Doll also teamed successfully with Reno Riggins, known as The Tennessee Volunteers and later as The Main Event they held the NWA World Tag Team Titles for 5 days in 2000. Doll holds several places in wrestling trivia. He was one of the members of the team to oppose the Blade Runners in their UWF debut. He was also the last USWA Southern Champion. He also was wrestling Mike Enos on "WCW Monday Nitro" when Scott Hall came through the crowd and made his his WCW debut, thus beginning the nWo angle. Doll has 1 confirmed Oklahoma appearance for MSW in Oklahoma City on February 11, 1986, where he teamed with Dave Peterson and lost to the Masked Superstars. He had been on life support and his family made the decision to remove him from his ventilator. Oklafan extends its condolences to Doll's family and friends.
